Abstract

One problem causing reduction of energy in satellite communications system is the misalignment of earth station antenna pointing to satellite. Error in pointing would affect the quality of information signal to energy bit in earth station. In this research, error in pointing angle occured only at receiver (Rx) antenna, while the transmitter (Tx) antennas precisely point to satellite. The research was conducted towards two satelites, namely TELKOM-1 and TELKOM-2. At first, measurement was made by directing Tx antenna precisely to satellite, resulting in an antenna pattern shown by spectrum analyzer. The output from spectrum analyzers is drawed with the right scale to describe swift of azimuth and elevation pointing angle towards satellite. Due to drifting from the precise pointing, it influenced the received link budget indicated by pattern antenna. This antenna pattern shows reduction of power level received as a result of pointing misalignment. As a conclusion, the increasing misalignment of pointing to satellite would affect in the reduction of received signal parameters link budget of downlink traffic.

Abstract

This study investigates Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) hybridization with Simulated Annealing (SA) to optimize Support Vector Machine (SVR). The optimized SVR is used for software effort estimation. The optimization of SVR consists of two sub-problems that must be solved simultaneously; the first is input feature selection that influences method accuracy and computing time. The next sub-problem is finding optimal SVR parameter that each parameter gives significant impact to method performance. To deal with a huge number of candidate solutions of the problems, a powerful approach is required. The proposed approach takes advantages of good solution quality from PSO and SA. We introduce SA based acceptance rule to accept new position in PSO. The SA parameter selection is introduced to improve the quality as stochastic algorithm is sensitive to its parameter. The comparative works have been between PSO in quality of solution and computing time. According to the results, the proposed model outperforms PSO SVR in quality of solution

Abstract

This paper is under in-depth investigation due to suspicion of possible plagiarism on a high similarity indexElectromagnetic Bandgap (EBG) structures are one class of metamaterial with attractive properties that unavailable in nature and widely used for improving the electromagnetic performance. Its In-phase reflection frequency band is indicated as operation frequency band, whose characteristic is closely related to the parameters of EBG structure, such as patch width (w), gap width (g), substrate height (h) and substrate permittivity (ε). The presence of via within EBG structure is associated with design and fabrication complexities, which led the researchers to study uniplanar EBG. These structures require no via and can easily be fabricated and integrated with RF and microwaves application.  Therefore, an investigation study on the effect of the parameters of the vialess EBG surface and some design guidelines have been obtained. An example of an antenna integrated with EBG is also studied. The result indicates that the EBG ground plane significantly improves the work efficiency of the antenna in a particular frequency band.

Abstract

Ontology is a representation term used to describe and represent a domain of knowledge. Manually ontology development is currently considered complex, requiring a lot of time and effort. This research was proposed to develop methods to build automatic domain ontology bilingual in Indonesian and English by using corpus and ontology design patterns (ODPs) in tuberculosis disease. In this study, the methods used were to combine ontology learning from text and ontology design patterns to decrease the role of expert knowledge. The methods in this research consist of six stages are term and relation extraction, matching with Tuberculosis glossary, matching with ODPs, score computation similarity term and relations with ODPs, ontology building and ontology evaluation. The results of ontology construction were 362 terms and 44 relations with 260 terms were added. The calculation accuracy of ontology construction was 71%. Ontology construction had higher complexity and shorter time as well as decreases the role of the expert knowledge which proof that the automatic ontology evaluation is better than manual ontology construction.

Abstract

In this paper, we evaluate outage probability (OP) of a cluster-based multi-hop protocol operating on an underlay cognitive radio (CR) mode. The primary network consists of multiple independent transmit/receive pairs, and the primary transmitters seriously cause co-channel interference (CCI) to the secondary receivers. To improve the outage performance for the secondary network under the joint impact of the CCI and hardware imperfection, we employ the best relay selection at each hop. Moreover, the destination is equipped with multiple antennas and uses the selection combining (SC) technique to enhance the reliability of the data transmission at the last hop. For performance evaluation, we first derive an exact formula of OP for the primary network which is used to calculate the transmit power of the secondary transmitters. Next, an exact closed-form expression of the end-to-end OP for the secondary network is derived over Rayleigh fading channels. We then perform Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the derivations. The results present that the CCI caused by the primary operations significantly impacts on the outage performance of the secondary network.

Abstract

One of the important features in content based image retrieval is color feature. The color feature is the most widely used visual features. Extracting feature image depends on the problem to identify the region or object of interest that is complex in content. This paper presents a methodology to recognize certain freshwater images using region of interest and color feature. In this work, we have considered 7 varieties of freshwater fish, Gourami, Mas/Common carper, Mas Orange, Mas Kancra, Mujair/Java Tilapia, Nila/Nile Tilapia, and Patin. Each variety consists of 20 images. We deployed Color Moment Feature after Region of Interest process to extract the feature. Euclid is used for recognition. Considering only a feature, the classification accuracy of 89% is obtained using color moment. The research technique shows promise for eventually being able to do so, and for the future will help to get important information from the image.

Abstract

Remote phosphor structure has higher luminous efficiency comparing to that of both conformal phosphor and in-cup phosphor structures. However, it is hard to control the color quality of remote phosphor structure, and this issue has become one of the most researchable objectives to many researchers in recent years. Up to now, there are two remote phosphor structures applied to improve the color quality, including dual-layer phosphor configuration and triple-layer phosphor configuration. The purpose of this research is to select one of those configurations to have multi-chip white LEDs (WLEDs) achieved the highest color rendering index (CRI), color quality scale (CQS), luminous efficacy (LE), and color uniformity. In this research, WLEDs with two correlated color temperatures (CCT) of 6600K and 7700K were applied. The obtained results showed that triple-layer phosphor configuration is more outstanding in CRI, CQS, and LE. Moreover, the color deviation has been significantly reduced, which means the color uniformity has been enhanced with the application of triple-layer phosphor configuration. These results can be proven by scattering properties of phosphor layers based on Mie theory. Thus, the researched results have become a reliable and valuable reference for manufacturing higher-quality WLEDs.

Abstract

Rice is a primary source of food consumed by almost half of world population. Rice quality mainly depends on the purity of the rice seed. In order to ensure the purity of rice variety, the recognition process is an essential stage. In this paper, we firstly propose to use histogram of oriented gradient (HOG) descriptor to characterize rice seed images. Since the size of image is totally random and the features extracted by HOG can not be used directly by classifier due to the different dimensions. We apply several imputation methods to fill the missing data for HOG descriptor. The experiment is applied on the VNRICE benchmark dataset to evaluate the proposed approach.

Abstract

Optimal network configuration is one of the effective approaches for power loss reduction of the distribution network. This paper shows a network reconfiguration method using improved backtracking search algorithm (IBSA). Wherein, IBSA is improved in the process of generating randomly the initialization population. The network reconfiguration method based on IBSA is used to find the optimal network configuration for the 33-node and 69-node systems. The results are compared to the original backtracking search algorithm (BSA), particle swarm optimization (PSO), firefly algorithm (FA) and previous approaches. From the compared results, IBSA can determine the optimal network configuration with higher success rate than BSA, PSO, FA and lower power loss than other previous approaches. As a result, IBSA is an effective approach for finding the optimal network configuration.
