Abstract

A Cellular Automata (CA) model is used for visualizing and predicting spreading pattern of the disease. The main problem of this model is how to find a function that represents an update rule that changes the state of a cell in time steps affected by neighborhood. This research aims to develop visualization and prediction model of the spreading patterns of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever. The contribution of our study is to introduce a new approach in defining a probabilistic function that represents CA transmission rule by employing Von Neumann neighborhood and the Hidden Markov Model (HMM). This study only considered an infective state which dedicated particular attention to the spatial distribution of infected areas. The infected data were devided into four categories and change the definition of a cell as an area. The evaluation was conducted by comparing the results of the proposed model to that of one yielded by a Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) model. The evaluation result showed that the CA model was capable of generating patterns that similar to the patterns generated by SIR models with a similarities value of 0.95.

Abstract

The Underwater Sensor Network (UWSN) is main interesting area due to its most valuable applications like: disaster preventions, distributed tactical surveillance, undersea exploration, seismic monitoring, environmental monitoring and many more. The design of energy efficient routing protocol is a challenging issue because in underwater environment the batteries of the sensor nodes cannot be recharged easily. Majority of the researchers have adapted the terrestrial WSN methodologies to overcome this problem but in underwater environment the terrestrial WSN approach is not feasible due to the acoustic signaling and water current. This research paper focuses the key limitation of the energy efficient routing protocols. The simulation results with comparative analysis for energy efficient routing protocols are also presented in this research article; which helps the researchers to find the further research gap in the field of energy efficient routing protocols.

Abstract

Uncontrolled environments have often required face recognition systems to identify faces appearing in poses that are different from those of the enrolled samples. To address this problem, probabilistic latent variable models have been used to perform face recognition across poses. Although these models have demonstrated outstanding performance, it is not clear whether richer parameters always lead to performance improvement. This work investigates this issue by comparing performance of three probabilistic latent variable models, namely PLDA, TFA, and TPLDA, as well as the fusion of these classifiers on collections of video data. Experiments on the VidTIMIT+UMIST and the FERET datasets have shown that fusion of multiple classifiers improves face recognition across poses, given that the individual classifiers have similar performance. This proves that different probabilistic latent variable models learn statistical properties of the data that are complementary (not redundant). Furthermore, fusion across multiple images has also been shown to produce better perfomance than recogition using single still image.

Abstract

In order to accommodate research activities at all universities in Indonesia, the Directorate Genereal of Strengthening for Research and Development, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) of the Republic of Indonesia established research quality standard. The standard includes the minimum targets that must be achieved by each University at the period of conducting the research activity. However, until now there has been no measurement to find out whether the existing standard was good enough or needs to be evaluated. Therefore, this study was conducted to measure the standards. The method used was the analysis of I-MR (Individual and Moving Range) control chart to see the performance of the standard. The results show that existing research schemes have encouraged the improvement of international publications, but have not yet maximized the production of other outputs such as textbooks, accredited national publications, intellectual property rights, and ptototypes. The result of the research was expected to be used as material for evaluation and improvement of policy to improve the quality of research standard in Kemenristekdikti.

Abstract

The communication system is a very important part of the robot soccer. It is because the robots must be able to move together, alternate and individual. The communication system that would be discussed is about the process of sending data from one robot to another robot using coach computer. It started with the reception of data from coach computer to both robots that had been installed Wi-Fi Communication module that had been connected to the router. Then, the data is processed using Arduino Mega2560. After that, the robot would detect the existence of the ball. The protocol used for the communication system is a UDP protocol (User Datagram Protocol) because UDP has several characteristics that support the occurrence of communication robots such as connection-less and unreliable. Both of characteristics have a faster connection, they do not require handshaking and UDP protocol provides a mechanism for sending a message to a specific process. The result shows that the communication system between coach computer and both robots is successful. This is indicated by the start button and stop button is 100% with repeating data transfer system on UDP protocol.

Abstract

This paper aims to survey the efforts of researchers in response to the novel and effective technology of control radiation pattern at a fixed frequency for leaky wave antenna (LWA), map the research landscape from the literature onto coherent taxonomy and determine the basic properties of this potential field. In addition, this paper investigates the motivation behind using beam steering in LWA and the open challenges that impede the utility of this antenna design. This paper offers valuable recommendations to improve beam steering in LWA. The review revealed the development and improvement of several techniques of beam scanning LWA. However, several areas or aspects require further attention. All the articles, regardless of their research focus, attempt to address the challenges that impede the full utility of beam scanning and offer recommendations to mitigate their drawbacks. This paper contributes to this area of research by providing a detailed review of the available options and problems to allow other researchers and participants to further develop beam scanning. The new directions for this research are also described.

Abstract

Individuals with hearing and speaking impairment communicate using sign language. The movement of hand, body and expressions of face are the means by which the people, who are unable to hear and speak, can communicate. Bangla sign alphabets are formed with one or two hand movements. There are some features which differentiates the signs. To detect and recognize the signs, analyzing its shape and comparing its features is necessary. This paper aims to propose a model and build a computer systemthat can recognize Bangla Sign Lanugage alphabets and translate them to corresponding Bangla letters by means of deep convolutional neural network (CNN). CNN has been introduced in this model in form of a pre-trained model called “MobileNet” which produced an average accuracy of 95.71% in recognizing 36 Bangla Sign Language alphabets.

Abstract

Power radial distribution systems are increasingly more and more important in transmitting the electric energy from power plants to customers. However, total loss in lines are very high. This issue can be solved by allocating capacitor banks. Determining the suitable allocation and optimal sizing of capacitor banks needs an efficient approach. In this study, the diffusion and update techniques-based algorithm (DUTA) is proposed for such reason. The efficiency of DUTA is inspected on two distribution systems consisting of 15-bus and 33-bus systems with different study cases. The solutions attained by DUTA are competed with recently published methods. As a consequence, the method is more effective than the other methods in terms of the quality of solution.

Abstract

Abstract

In order to recognize the actions of human’s lower limbs, a novel action recognition method based on a human joint was proposed. Firstly, hip joint was chosen as the recognition object, its y coordinates were as recognition parameter, and human action characteristics were achieved based on filtering and wavelet transform. Secondly, an improved self-organizing competitive neural network was proposed, which could classify the action characteristics automatically according to the classification number. The classification results of motion capture data proved the validity of the neural network. Finally,an action recognition method based on hidden Markov model (HMM) was introduced to realize the recognition of classification results of human action characteristicswith the change direction of y coordinates. The proposed action recognition method needs less action information and has a fast calculation speed. Experiments proved the method hada high recognition rate and a good application prospect.
