Abstract

The distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack occurs when massive traffic from numerous computers is directed to a server or network, causing crashes and disrupting functionality. Such attacks often shut down websites or applications temporarily and remain among the most critical cybersecurity challenges. Detecting DDoS is difficult and must occur before mitigation. Recently, machine learning and deep learning (ML/DL) have been employed for detection; however, architectural limitations restrict their effectiveness against evolving attack methods. This paper presents a novel framework, scrutiny boosted graph convolutional–bidirectional long short-term memory and vision transformer (SBGC-BiLSTM-ViT), which integrates graph convolutional, BiLSTM, and ViT models with machine learning classifiers such as support vector machine (SVM), Naïve Bayes (NB), random forest (RF), and K-nearest neighbors (KNN). The integration enables autonomous extraction of critical features, enhancing precision in detecting and classifying DDoS attacks. To further boost performance, a Bayesian optimization algorithm (BOA) is applied for hyperparameter tuning of SBGC and ML methods. Evaluation on benchmark datasets UNSW-NB15 and CICDDoS2019 demonstrates that the proposed approach achieves higher accuracy and effectively identifies new DDoS variants, outperforming conventional methods.

Abstract

In the majority of gene expression investigations, selecting relevant genes for sample classification is considered a frequent challenge, with researchers attempting to discover the minimum feasible number of genes while yet achieving excellent predictive performance. Various gene selection methods employ univariate (gene-by-gene) gene relevance rankings as well as arbitrary thresholds for selecting the number of genes, are only applicable to 2-class problems and use gene selection ranking criteria unrelated to the algorithm of classification. A modified random forest (MRF) algorithm depending on the meerkat clan algorithm (MCA) is provided in this work. It is one of the swarm intelligence algorithms and one of the most significant machine learning approaches in the decision tree. MCA is used to choose characteristics for the RF algorithm. In information systems, databases, and other applications, feature selection imputation is critical. The proposed algorithm was applied to three different databases, where the experimental results for accuracy and time proved the superiority of the proposed algorithm over the original algorithm.

Abstract

Power flow optimization in electrical power distribution systems is crucial for maintaining voltage stability and energy efficiency. 20 kV distribution systems often face voltage profile instability issues due to high power losses, where conventional power flow analysis methods are sometimes inefficient in handling load fluctuations in medium-voltage networks. This study proposes power flow calculation optimization using the fast-decoupled approach to evaluate and improve voltage profiles quickly and accurately, as well as integrating reactive power compensation through strategic capacitor bank placement. Simulation results show that under existing conditions, the system experiences significant voltage drops, especially at Bus 27 (17.740 kV) and Bus 53 (7.640 kV). After implementing a 2×900 kVAr capacitor bank, the voltage profile increased dramatically: Bus 27 rose to 19.160 kV and Bus 52 reached 19.020 kV. This proves that the integration of the fast decoupled method and reactive power compensation is effective in minimizing voltage deviation and improving the operational stability of the distribution system.

Abstract

Near terrestrial free-space optical (NT-FSO) communication refers to the use of light to transmit data wirelessly through the atmosphere over relatively short distances, typically within the earth’s atmosphere. It is an alternative to traditional radio frequency (RF) communication and fiber optics, providing high-speed data transmission without the need for physical cables. NT-FSO is an attractive solution for high-speed, short-distance wireless communications where physical infrastructure like fiber is impractical. Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) are a cutting-edge technology that enhances wireless communication systems by dynamically controlling how electromagnetic waves propagate through an environment. RIS technology is increasingly relevant in modern communication systems like 5G and beyond, aiming to improve the efficiency, coverage, and energy usage of wireless networks. This study investigates the effects of atmospheric turbulence and RIS on near terrestrial optical link for internet of things. Several numerical outcomes obtained for different link distance and average electrical signal signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are shown to quantitatively illustrate the average spectral efficiency.

Abstract

Piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEHs) are a kind of energy harvester that generates electricity due to pressure or vibration. Vortex-induced vibration (VIV) is a method that utilized wind energy and bluff body to generate the vibration in PEH. The objective of this research was to study the output voltage that generates in different bluff bodies with various airflow velocities. Experimental and simulation have done in this study. Experimental used PEH that consists of piezoelectric bimorph and rectangular-trapezoid fin. Bluff bodies with various cross-sectional areas, namely rhombus, square, and triangle were set up in front of the PEH at a distance of 80 cm. The various air velocities are set up to 5, 7, and 9 m/s in the wind tunnel with a cross-section of 250 mm × 250 mm. The simulation used the finite element method in explore the fluid flow pattern. The rhombus cross-sectional bluff body can generate voltage with an average of 1.5 volts. It is more voltage generated than a square and triangle. A vortex is formed near the rhombus bluff body and generates pressure fluctuation in its wake region. This pressure fluctuation takes place until airflow hits and leads PEH to vibrate and generate the voltage.

Abstract

Using circular geometry has a great influence on many fields of science and engineering, one of which is antenna. Communication systems were oriented towards fifth generation (5G) because of large- bandwidth systems, compact requirements, high-data rates. In this research, a design and simulation are made to a microstrip circular patch antenna. The patch has two circles a compact structure of the first circle radius is 2.5 mm and second circle radius is 1 mm with thickness 0.35 mm. The proposed antenna has three resonant frequencies 41.08 GHz with a return loss of -12.4 dB, 47.4 at -18.86 dB and 54.4 at return loss -24.3 dB. The bandwidths are 150 MHz, 222 MHz and 219 MHz, the gains of three resonant frequencies are 6.16 dB, 9.89 dB and 5.54 dB, with efficiency of 98%. A technique of inset feed transmission line was utilized to match the fifty Ω microstrip feedline and the radiating patch. Based upon the proposed design, a Roger RT Duroid 5880 substrate that possesses loss tangent of 0.0009 with a height of 0.5 mm and a dielectric constant of 2.2 is employed. A computational process is conducted and analyzed by the use of computer simulation technology microwave studio.

Abstract

This paper investigates a secure hybrid power–frequency multiple access (PFMA) framework for satellite–terrestrial communications. By integrating power- and frequency-domain multiplexing, PFMA achieves approximately 4 dB lower transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) than non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) for the same connection outage probability (COP) at SNR > 0 dB, and it reduces the COP by up to 30% at low-to-medium SNRs. It further decreases the intercept probability (IP) by 20–25% at PS = 10 dBm. Closed-form COP and IP expressions are derived under shadowed-Rician fad ing with both internal and external eavesdroppers and validated via Monte Carlo simulations. Parameter analysis indicates that PFMA’s SNR gain can either ex tend coverage by 60% or save 37% energy, providing design guidelines for 6G, satellite IoT, and emergency communication systems. The single-cell assump tion points to future work on multi-cell and mobility scenarios.

Abstract

An important facet of disaster mitigation is discovering regions based on their lack of preparedness for combating disaster. Accordingly, organizations can lay down appropriate risk management strategies and guidelines to minimize loss due to disaster. “Techniquefor order of preference by similarity to ideal solution(TOPSIS)” is a popular multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method that is deployed for ranking alternatives based on multiple pre-specified criteria. However, the method’s efficiency in ranking region as per multiple criteria for disaster management is far from the ground truth. The authors propose a novel intelligent method HCF-TOPSIS, an extension of traditional TOPSIS, to deliver an efficient ranking mechanism for regional safety assessment of disaster affected regions. HCF-TOPSIS capitalizes on entropy (H), closeness (C),and farness (F) metrics to obtain efficient ranking scores of the disaster affected regions. Extensive experimentation validates the claim and proves the superiority of HCF-TOPSIS over existing TOPSIS variants. The proposed research presents many benefits, especially to governments and stakeholders, intending to take appropriate actions to contain disasters.

Abstract

This paper presents a simple structure and small size antenna design with dimensions of 43×47 mm2 to perform an ultra-wideband (UWB) frequency range using a semicircular co-planar waveguide (CPW). This antenna has been designed and simulated by the computer simulation technology (CST) microwave studio suit. In this work, we design an ultra-wideband antenna (about 2 GHz to 10 GHz) by feeding a semi-circular compact antenna via a co-planar waveguide for input impedance of 50 Ω. The CST simulation results show that our designed antenna has a very good impedance and radiation characteristic within the intended ultra-wideband. Because of the small size and the suitable shape, this antenna can be used in many wireless communication applications, such as a radio frequency identifier (RFID), indoor wireless local area network or wireless fidelity (WiFi), internet of things (IoT), millimeter waves communications (mmWave), global positioning system (GPS), and many applications of 6G systems.

Abstract

The quality of wireless signals is determined by the received signal strength indicator (RSSI), which can be measured using various tools, including Android apps and global system for mobile (GSM) modules. To enhance the measurement of signal quality and communication reliability, this study aimed to develop a complementary instrument consisting of a microcontroller, global positioning system (GPS) module, GSM module, and microSD card. The firmware was developed using C++ code and compiled using the Arduino integrated development environment (IDE). In addition, this study utilized the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (K-S test) normality and the Mann-Whitney U test to investigate any differences in RSSI quality between the GSM module and global positioning system network track (G-NetTrack). The results showed that the GSM module consistently produced higher RSSI values than G-NetTrack in most locations along the route. Furthermore, the K-S test normality suggested that the RSSI values obtained from both tools were not normally distributed, and the Mann-Whitney U test revealed a significant difference between the two samples, with G-NetTrack having lower values than the GSM module (U=14730, p<0.05). This study demonstrated that the GSM module provides stronger signal strength measurements than G-NetTrack during the drive test, and highlighted the importance of using appropriate statistical tests to analyze RSSI data.
