Background: Demographic and epidemiologic transition now occurred in the District of Bantul could be followed by decreasing quality of life in elderly. Community elderly care service (CECS) is a primary service for elderly with potential to support increasing quality of life in elderly. Based on previous study, utilization of CECS was high (73.30%) at subdistrict of Bambanglipuro, Bantul. To know the relationship between participation status and quality of life in CECS participants at subdistrict of Bambanglipuro. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted from April to May 2012. Samples were selected with consecutive sampling technique. Data were collected from 8 CECSs at subdistrict of Bambanglipuro. Quality of life was measured with short form 36 (SF-36) Health Survey, including physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS). Data then were analyzed with descriptive and analytic methods using Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. Results: Of 238 subjects investigated, 186 (78.20%) were good in PCS and 194 (81.50%) were good in MCS. Multivariate analysis showed that active in physical exercise of CECS program, absence of hypertension, and better economic status were related to better PCS (aPR: 5.31, 95%CI: 2.52-11.20; aPR: 3.41, 95%CI: 1.31-5.47; aPR: 2.68; 95%CI: 1.31-5.47) and better MCS (aPR: 3.97, 95%CI: 1.83-8.64; aPR: 3.08, 95%CI: 1.39-6.82; aPR: 6.38; 95%CI: 2.62-15.53). Conclusion: Dominant factors that related to better quality of life in CECS participants were: active in physical exercise program of CECS, absence of hypertension and better economic status.

Background: Solving a complex public health problem in the 21st century requires public health professionals who excel in the field of public health sciences (hard skills) and have skills which are general in nature (soft skills). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the achievement of hard skills and soft skills in the curriculum of Public Health Study Program of UAD (PHSP UAD). Method: A descriptive study with cross sectional design was conducted on final year students of PHSP UAD from regular and non-regular program. Achievement of hard skills was evaluated through a grade point average (GPA) from all final year students who actively involved in teaching and learning activities and those who have completed their studies. The level of importance and achievement of soft skills was evaluated by the General Skills survey from Tuning with convenience sampling. Results: The overall average of GPA (n=325) was 3.22. Achievement of soft skills (n=147) showed that the achievement of skills associated with knowledge in the field of public health were good. The achievement of capacity for applying knowledge in practice and some other skills which are needed in the working world in the 21st century were still low. Conclusion: Hard skills achievement of final year students of PHSP UAD showed satisfactory results. Satisfactory achievement of soft skills was still limited only to skills which are related to knowledge in the field of public health. Meanwhile, soft skills achievement which are needed in the working world in the 21st century were still low

Background: The Gajah Wonderland Kampong is a recreation area offering various games that is located in Lembang, Bandung. The favorite game to be played in this park is the so-called Buggy Game. The results of in-depth observations and close examination indicate that this particular Buggy Game is not ergonomic and that path information is inadequate so that accidents often occur. In order to solve these problems, the Participatory Ergonomics (PE) method has been employed. Method: The implementation of PE involves key stakeholders, namely the management in charge, workers, designers, and ergonomics experts. The stakeholders have discussed these matters to reach an agreement in the shape of a design that suits the user. Results: This study resulted in a chair design concept that can be adjusted according to needs, a gas pedal limiting design, a track plan design and manufacturing directions, a speed sensor design and an emergency button, in addition to a head frame design, and a design for anti-heat material in the engine area. Conclusion: PE turns out to be the right method for repeated repairs or improvements made to the Buggy Game because it involves the main user so as to produce a design that is able to improve both the comfort and safety of the users.
