Abstract

Heading of ASEAN Community 2015, Indonesia should improve its role to increase Indonesian society to love local products, and to introduce Indonesian local products and potentials using internet and social media is the best solution.The benefits and importance of social media is highly because social media has become a major pillar in the delivery of information. Social media can be used for socializing programs and policies, introducing the product and the potential of Indonesia, restoring and enhancing the image of tourism; and moreover, social media can be used as a means of learning communities.The object of this research is social media account of Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy; and Department of Tourism and Culture, West Java. Using case study methods, these research concludes that a number of smart companies does not only use social networking media it as a marketing medium, but also as a supporter of business activity, simplify and strengthen the function of communication to the public.

Abstract

Conflict between Israel and Palestine still become the hot issue that all media covering on it. But the information flow about the conflict is dominated by Western Media. The domination followed by Western Media’s effort to manipulate the information. For example, Western Media called Palestine as a dispute land; meanwhile if we look at the history it was the Israel colonized Palestine.There are several alternative point of view about the conflict. One of the alternative point offered by Joe Sacco, an US comic writer. Sacco offers the stories from fact that often forgotten by the Western Media. This research discuss about Footnotes in Gaza, one of Sacco’s comic. Footnotes in Gaza based on Sacco’s investigation about Khan Younis and Rafah incident in 1956, when the the Palestine civilian were being killed by Israeli soldiers.This research use Sara Mills’ positioning the subject-object as the methods. In The Footnotes in Gaza, clearly seen that the position of the narrator (the subject) is always held by the victims (the Palestinians), while the object is the Israeli with all their act of violence.

Abstract

This article analyzes what exactly happened when someone “online” through his/her computer in Internet. This analysis will be based on Martin Heidegger’s existentialism and Don Ihde's philosophy of technology. Thus, online activity is seen as a contemporary culture, especially in urban society, which shows some particular characteristics.

Abstract

This paper aims to discover political representation of the local media namely Harian Singgalang regarding public opinion during the election in West Sumatra Indonesia. Furthermore, the complexity of media power will be discussed through such television program and the newspaper`s headline and special report. By using case study approach and critical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough in analyzing text, discursive practice, and socio-cultural practice, it can be noted that political public opinion had been fully articulated in such local media representing collaboration actors and institution among media, politicians and local people.Political opinion could be sensed in the program “Menuju Sumbar Satu Padang TV” and located in the headlines and special report of Harian Singgalang during April-August 2010. Representation of political opinion in both Padang TV and Singgalang indicated media logic and also vested interested among such media and elites in order to maintain local democracy by spreading politically strategic information, persuading the audience, making the myth of good impression in order to win the election. Menuju Sumbar Satu Padang TV has depicted campaign strategy of some governors candidates while headlines and special report of Singgalang have extremely covered all candidates and transformed those dynamic public sphere for political consensus among media, politicians and the audience in promoting local democracy in West Sumatra 2010.

Abstract

Television has become an integral part of the community. Television presents a variety of diverse programs that include educational information, news and even entertainment gossip into the infotainment program. Among the various programs, infotainment now to be excellent for the television audience because many issues debated households are packed into the sensational news, ranging from gonogini property issues, differences in belief, a large family conflict, inequality of income, until the emergence of a third part which further adds chaotic household. Various household problems Infotainment packaging style will be the center of attention of the audience infotainment to continue watching the story of the conflict, like watching endless soap opera. This paper discusses the issues of households reporting celebrities as a media spectacle.

Abstract

This article tries tracing the development of Public Relations (PR) that has been emerging since the beginning of twentieth century in Uncle Sam country with Ivy Lee and Bemays as its main figures. At the nearly same time, Indonesia practiced many communication activities that could be categorized within PR terms such as building public opinion to enhance the importance of independence as a great value that must be fighter either nationally or internationally. PR practices in Indonesia are full of political nuances. Meanwhile, PR studies in US came up caused by economic recessions. Both different historical backgrounds have been bringing different implications in PR development until now days. PR practice in both independence and new order era was colorized by freedom and egalitarianism. Nevertheless, the fall of old order and the rise of new order or, then, the fall of new order and the rise of reformation order are not always on the same tracks. Its discontinuity is not favorable for democratic society atmosphere. Reformation order that is colorized by information and technology development increase PR practices in Indonesia, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Yet, the practice of PR in Indonesia is still dominated by political stakes and tent to less of business approach.

Abstract

Discourse of Yogyakarta’s privilege status once was dimmed from public memory. But then it return and people start to re-debate in the political uproar that included grass-roots level, after the President snap it. Discursive battle about this issue does not only appear in mainstream mass media stage, but also in outdoor media. This article tries to reveal the discourse of Yogyakarta's privilege status that is represented in outdoor media, as well as to open up the power-relations behind the production of the discourse.

Abstract

In the disaster prone area such as Indonesia, the strategic role of the media to educate public become a must Regular information that provided by media will be like an early warning system to the society and remind them that they are in the disaster prone area so that they have to be ready to face it The media won't be able to prevent the disaster, but they still can contribute in preventing too many victims by reducing panic society because of the irresponsible rumors and issues. This article deals with: first, disaster epistemology, disaster relations with human and nature; second, snapshot the practice of disaster media reporting in Indonesia -particularly television- and also media role in building information agenda setting related to disaster; third, in the end of the essay will try to formulate the important role of the media in public education process about how to face disaster proportionally and make the media as part of the early warning system that needed in the future.

Abstract

Perencanaan komunikasi merupakan aktivitas yang tak terpisahkan dalam program komunikasi maupun program-program pembangunan yang memerlukan dukungan komunikasi, termasuk dalam mem-branding Kota. Sebagai salah satu bentuk kegiatan memasarkan Kota, aktivitas ini tidak luput dari perencanaan komunikasi. Oleh karena itu, tulisan ini akan mengkaji aktivitas perencanaan komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah Kota Palembang dalam mengkampanyekan program Palembang EMAS. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, yang berusaha menggambarkan atau mendeskripsikan objek yang diteliti berdasarkan fakta yang ada di lapangan. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam dengan asisten pemerintah bidang Humas dan protokol, Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Daerah Tingkat II Kota Palembang, dan Dinas Komunikasi dan Informatika. Studi ini menemukan bahwa perencanaan komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh Pemerintah Kota Palembang dalam kampanye Palembang EMAS dilakukan melibatkan dua hal pokok, yaitu (1) organisasi yang menggerakkan kegiatan dalam hal ini pemerintah Kota dengan melakukan analisis dan riset, perumusan kebijakan, perencanaan program pelaksanaan dan kegiatan komunikasi; (2) publik yang menjadi sasaran kegiatan yang terdiri atas respon dan evaluasi dari masyarakat.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perubahan komunikasi dalam inovasi mitigasi bencana. Dengan wilayah Indonesia yang memiliki banyak gunung berapi aktif dan terletak di wilayah padat penduduk, penelitian mengenai mitigasi bencana dari perspektif ilmu komunikasi sangat penting dilakukan. Inovasi dalam komunikasi dilakukan pada masyarakat di wilayah rawan bencana dengan adanya peristiwa erupsi gunung Merapi pada tahun 2010. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data penelitian melalui observasi wilayah dan wawancara dengan masyarakat di dukuh Kalitengah Kidul, Desa Glagaharjo, Sleman, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Konsep yang digunakan adalah difusi inovasi, informasi dan mitigasi bencana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat adopsi terhadap inovasi mitigasi bencana terkait dengan komunikasi masyarakat. Perubahan komunikasi terjadi pada alat komunikasi yang digunakan, sumber informasi untuk menentukan mengambil keputusan evakuasi, komunikasi kelompok masyarakat menentukan prosedur mitigasi bencana, sumber informasi tentang aktivitas gunung dan prioritas yang harus dilakukan pada saat tanggap darurat maupun masa pemulihan pasca bencana. Ditemukan dari hasil penelitian setelah erupsi tahun 2010 muncul sikap warga diwilayah rawan bencana yang lebih mandiri dan memiliki inisiatif dalam mengadopsi inovasi mitigasi bencana khususnya dalam hal komunikasi diantara masyarakat dalam menghadapi potensi bencana yang akan timbul.
