Abstract

Soft skills are things that become part of learning outcomes in the learning process. This is related to the provision of the lives of students in the future. The aim of the chemical stoichiometry learning process with discovery-based community learning models is to improve students' soft skills. This classroom action research was carried out in 3 cycles with 3 meetings each cycle. The research subjects were softskills for students of class X Science-6 Pekalongan 1 High School. The results of the study showed an increase in students' soft skills from 67% (less) in cycle 1 to 87% (good) in cycle 2. In cycle 3 it increased to 96% (very good), with very good indicators of success. This increase shows that discovery-based community learning models can improve students' soft skills. Other results indicate a change in enthusiasm, activity, and motivation to learn to be better.

Abstract

The rapid development of informatics and computer technology (ICT) has an impact on the world of education today. On the other hand, changes in the educational paradigm that previously embraced teacher-centered learning became student-centered learning, bringing very significant changes to the developedment of learning methods at this time. This study aims to improve student chemistry learning outcomes through digital based learning. Digital technology has developed widely, but has not been utilized in learning. Based on preliminary observations in the Department of Chemistry at UNNES, lecturers have difficulty in creating a learning atmosphere centered on student activities, so that lecturers are still be the main source of learning. These problems have implications for the quality of learning in the Department of Chemistry, which so far has not used digital learning. This study is a qualitative descriptive study by applying digital based learning through three stages, namely planning, implementation, and reflection (see). At the planning stage, create a digital learning scenario. In the implementation phase, apply the scenario in the class. During learning, observations are carried out by the teaching team. The reflection phase is conducted to review the learning process with a focus on student activities and class participation. The results of this study prove that digital based learning is one option that can meet the need to improve the quality of learning chemistry at the UNNES. The effect of digital-based learning strategies on student learning outcomes is 52.8%

Abstract

Selection of learning model is influential on the success of student learning. The guided inquiry learning model is one of the student-centered learning models and emphasizes the learning process of students in finding concepts. The guided inquiry learning model based on authentic assessment makes learning activities meaningful and enables improving student learning outcomes as the student's per-stage development can be measured. This research is an experimental research using posttest-only control design. Population in this research is all students of class XI IPA SMA Negeri 1 Pabelan. The samples in this study were taken with saturated sampling. Class XI IPA 1 as experiment class and class XI IPA 2 as control class. Data collection methods used are interview, documentation test and observation methods. This study begins treatment and ends  posttest. Based on the result of research, the mean value of posttest of cognitive domain for experimental class is 80,28 and control class equal to 76,60. This concludes that the cognitive class experimental mean of the experimental class is better than the control class proved by t-test, that mean of the experimental cognitive learning outcomes differ significantly with the control class. Psychomotor and affective domain results with very good criteria in the experiment class more than the control class. Based on the analysis of research results can be obtained conclusion that the guided inquiry model based on authentic assessment has a positive effect on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Understanding the chemistry concept should be demonstrated by the ability to transfer and connect levels of chemical representation. This study aimed to produce DARTs-worksheets containing multiple levels of representation as learning media to improve critical thinking ability. The research used the R&D procedure including define-design-develop stages. One group pretest-posttest design is applied at the develop stage as a form of guarantee of worksheet quality. Data was collected through test techniques (critical thinking ability) as well as non-tests (assessment of the feasibility by experts, students and educators; activity observations; as well as interviews). The subject involved 49 pre-service chemistry teachers at two universities. The results showed that (1) it was produced four worksheets with characteristics that could be viewed from critical thinking skills, DARTs activities, and multiple levels of representation; (2) the DARTs worksheet got a positive rating, the level of "good and very good" for didactic, construction, and technical requirements, and showed the level of readability at the "high" level; (3) worksheets directed activities that indicate an increase in critical thinking ability. Important implications of this study indicated the need to uncover the symbolic learning patterns of chemistry by chemistry teachers in high school, especially compound nomenclature material, chemical reaction equations, and interpretation of graphs, tables, and curves.

Abstract

Critical thinking skill is considered as important skill to be trained and developed in chemistry learning. Predict, Observe and Explain (POE) is one of many learning models that expected to be able to develop students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine the achievement of students in seven indicators of critical thinking after getting learning with the POE model in the buffer solution material. The instruments used for data collection are critical thinking skill tests, questionnaires about students’ respond, and interviews. The research method that used is mix methods which use combination of quantitative and qualitative data. The results of data analysis showed that high group students still had difficulty in making induction. Students in the moderate group are still having difficulties in considering observation reports, making induction, making decision, and identifying assumptions. Low group students still find it difficult to consider the credibility of a source, observing, making induction, making decision, and identifying assumptions. While the most successful indicator is the indicator of asking and answering question, meanwhile the least successful indicator is indicator of making induction.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the feasibility of three tiers test instrument design for analysing students' misconceptions of buffer solutions. The method used was Research and Development (R&D) with 4D model, but only till the development stage. Analytical technique done is validity test of 3TMC tes instrument with expert judgment assessment, reliability test using cronbach's alpha formula, and teacher response analysis. The results of expert validation on 3TMC test product received a positive response with a score of 82 and 90 of the total score of 105, so the 3TMC test product was feasible and can be used with a little bit revision. 3TMC product reliability test obtained reliability number of 0.439 with a critical number of 0.335, so the 3TMC test product was reliable. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the 3TMC test product was feasible to be used as a test instrument for the analysis of student misconceptions of the buffer solution

Abstract

In this 21st century, the world is undergoing rapid changes. This change concerns all aspects of life, namely the fields of economics, transportation, technology, communication, information, and others. This change needs to be anticipated by mastering the 21st century skills. The 21st century skills include critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation, communication, and collaboration. The development of the 21st century skills can be carried out in all disciplines. Chemistry as one of the science disciplines is very appropriate to develop the 21st century skills. The development of the 21st century skills must be done intentionally by chemistry teachers in order to achieve the learning objectives effectively and efficiently. To develop the 21st century skills in chemistry learning, the teachers can choose learning models with scientific approaches, such as discovery learning model, problem-based learning model, project-based learning model, or design-based learning. The application of the learning model must be carried out optimally in accordance with the nature of the scientific approach so that students can develop the 21st century skills. In addition, the apllication of blended learning and an assessment of the 21st century skills is also important.

Abstract

A research aimed to explore students’ science process skill of students in colloid concept through project based learning vision of SETS. This research involved 34 reseach subjects. Instrument used research is observation sheet and as supporting data student response questionnaire. The data obtained from observation sheets learning to know the science process skills developed by students and queationnaires were used to collect the students’ respond to learning. Student response questionnaire used to know student response to learning done. The data are analyzed descriptively. Results from this study showed that the students had all the indicators of science process skills a googd category with a percentage of 65.48%. Students give a positive response to learning because they feel more understanding, increase motivation and interest in learning. This is evidenced by 85% students of class XI IPA 1 SMA N 2 Purbalingga provide responses that fall into either category of learning that hs been done.
