Abstract

Immanuel Kant denied metaphysical thought. According to Kant, men are not able to understand the nature of something but phenomena. So also in terms of the universe, men can not attain the nature of universe but phenomena that rose from universe. In this context, Kant denied traditional cosmology. However, Kant develops his own cosmology. He talks about the origin of cosmos. Although the origin of cosmos can not retrace clearly, but it is able to understood by nebular theory. Kant explained space and time base on epistemological principles. Space and time are an image in human mind, they rose in the same time, and the other things came later.

Abstract

The problem of relationship between science and religion emerged in the first time at the Middle Ages, when the controversy about the center of universe occurred between scientists and theologians, that were geocentric view and heliocentric view. It was the starting point of the discourse of relationship between science and religion academically. Than, the discourse of the relationship develop in four types i.e. conflict, independence, dialogue and integration. The concept of integration between science and religion in philosophy of Mullâ Shadrâ perspective is an holistic integration which is built upon the unity of ontology, epistemology and axiology. Ontologically, the relationship is interdependent- integration, it means that science and religion dependent each other. There is no science without religion and there is no religion without science. Epistemologically, the relationship is complementary-integration; it means that all methods which are applied in science and religion (sense experience, reason, intuition and revelation) synergically used to find out the truth. Axiologically, the relationship is qualificative-integration, it means that all values (truth, goodness, beauty and Divineness) qualify each other. Science is not value free; science is not only related to the truth, but also to goodness, beauty and Divineness values.

Abstract

The topic of this paper is related to the methodological thought of a philosopher Imre Lacatos. The methodological problem is a core problem in the area of philosophy of science. Science philosopher’s discourse shows the methodology of science as one of the scientific procedures in gaining the truth, but in fact, it caused the emergence of methodological mainstream; mono-methodology and pluri-methodology. Imre Lacatos’ tried to mediate the discourse of two fortifications by means of scientific research program. Some ideas developed by Lacatos’ in its relation to the scientific research programs are; first, Lacatos propose a sum of mathematics knowledge which is based on the heuristics idea, second, Lacatos’ criticism to Popper’s falsifiable concept, third, Lacatos’ effort in looking for a harmonious method that provides a sum of rational scientific progress, appropriately keeps its consistency with the historical fact, fourth, Lacatos’ connect the research program to scientists who protect the core of theory from falsification effort, fifth, a research program is qualified as progressive if it is signed by stunning novel facts and as deteriorative if the program is not directed to the new fact, sixth, the hard-core is determining characteristic of program, it is a general theory of hypotheses which is employed as a foundation of developed program, seventh, the negative heuristic of hard-core program is detailed program which states the basic assumption of program, eighth, the positive heuristic of hard-core program is an outline which indicates how the research program can be developed under additional assumption of new phenomenon clarification.

Abstract

The philosophy of al-Farabi is a review and commentary on the philosophical works written by Greek Philosophers. Al- Farabi’s thought exposes new nuance that is brought to the tradition of Islamic treasure. Al-Farabi carries both philosophy and religion discourses, primarily in matching the philosophy of language to the religion that was polarized into language terminologies. Religion is viewed as expression of philosophical truth in the popular language that uses art, logic, rhetoric, and poetry. Al-Farabi put rhetoric and poetry into the integral-part of philosophy. Poetry has ability in creating imagination (khayali) as a description of empirical data. The power of imagination is put into logic. This is an unusual construction of logic. By the power of imagination, al-Farabi confirmed the prophetic truth. Prophet is not only the owner of intellectual capability as philosopher has, but he has the high power of imagination; prophet is capable to formulate concrete formulation from abstract conceptions that is easily understood and accepted by society and his followers.
