Abstract

The essence of development education can be obtained by explaining its meaning; explaining and analyzing its functions and principles in the community; and describing its essential elements. Based on the study that have been conducted, the essence of development education can be described as follows. First, development education is a process of information dissemination; process of explanation; process of behavioral change; the educational process; and social-engineering process. Second, its functions is to change people's behavior better to improve the quality of life. Third, its principles include: the interests and needs; grassroots organizations; culture changes; cooperation and participatory democracy in the application of science; learning by doing; the use of appropriate methods; leadership; trained specialists; education must consider the family as a social unit; education should be able to realize satisfaction. Fourth, the elements in development education are extension, objectives, methods, media, place and time.

Multiculturalism the global cultural exchange, and the need of humanized communation are the real challenges for social sciences and social philosophy. Jurgen Habermas attemps to answer approach fundamental probelms. He built a comprehensive theory to analyze the relationship of knowledgem, science, politics, society, and culture in modern society. He found that we need a new approach to devolp an emancipatory science, a science which regard the human as the subject of change

Abstract

Sutan Takdir Alisyahbana is one of the Indonesian greatest intellectuals concerned with human and cultural issues.He is a man of letters, linguist, philosopher and social scientist.His background of knowledge is different from most sociologists, anthropologists and historians so that it is not surprise that his thought of culture has its own style.His thoughts are rooted in humanism which developed inEurope since Renaissance to the rise of neo-positivism. According to him, a reality is a result of intellect and a movement of values.He believes that ethics generally is the core of individual, social, and cultural life. Ethical relationships of value are the main core of cultural issue. Human, as a creator of culture, has a dual nature. One side, human is a natural creature and on the other side, human is an intellectual/ reason creature. As a natural creature, human is subjected to natural laws which control his/her birth and physical life. Meanwhile, as an intellectual/ reason creature, according to him, human obedience to the law of reason defines humanity and allows human creates a high culture.Keywords: Sutan Takdir Alisyahbana, value, human, culture.

Abstract

The problem of relationship between science and religion emerged in the first time at the Middle Ages, when the controversy about the center of universe occurred between scientists and theologians, that were geocentric view and heliocentric view. It was the starting point of the discourse of relationship between science and religion academically. Than, the discourse of the relationship develop in four types i.e. conflict, independence, dialogue and integration. The concept of integration between science and religion in philosophy of Mullâ Shadrâ perspective is an holistic integration which is built upon the unity of ontology, epistemology and axiology. Ontologically, the relationship is interdependent- integration, it means that science and religion dependent each other. There is no science without religion and there is no religion without science. Epistemologically, the relationship is complementary-integration; it means that all methods which are applied in science and religion (sense experience, reason, intuition and revelation) synergically used to find out the truth. Axiologically, the relationship is qualificative-integration, it means that all values (truth, goodness, beauty and Divineness) qualify each other. Science is not value free; science is not only related to the truth, but also to goodness, beauty and Divineness values.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tiga masalah pokok, yaitu: pertama, mengapa kita perlu melakukan Islamisasi ilmu?; kedua, mengapa filsafat ilmu dapat digunakan sebagai perspektif dalam gagasan Islamisasi ilmu tersebut?; ketiga, bagaimana filsafat ilmu dapat digunakan dalam Islamisasi ilmu?. Objek material dari kajian adalah pemikiran yang berkembang di dunia Islam dalam upaya pengembangan bangunan keilmuan Islam. Sedangkan filsafat ilmu digunakan sebagai objek formal penelitian.Dari hasil kajian terungkap, bahwa: pertama, gagasan Islamisasi ilmu muncul sebagai akibat keterbelakangan umat Islam dari bangsa Barat yang disebabkan oleh: penggunaan metodologi ilmiah pada berbagai disiplin ilmu yang “asal tiru”, kurangnya wawasan keislaman pada umat Islam, dan adanya dikotomi-dualisme sistem pendidikan modern sekuler dengan sistem pendidikan Islam. Kedua, pengembangan keilmuan dalam gagasan Islamisasi ilmu sangat membutuhkan filsafat ilmu sebagai perspektifnya. Ini karena filsafat ilmu adalah salah satu cabang ilmu filsafat yang tumbuh paling belakangan sebagai kesadaran untuk menyatukan kembali ikatan-ikatan antara ilmu pengetahuan dengan filsafat (sebagai sumber dari ilmu). Ketiga, filsafat ilmu diterapkan dalam Islamisasi ilmu dengan cara dijadikan sebuah sudut pandang, tolok ukur, atau “posisi berdiri” kita untuk menganalis dan menyusun framework pengembangan keilmuan Islam, dengan menggunakan pendekatan dan metodologi yang tersedia dalam filsafat.
