Jurnal Siasat Bisnis (JSB) is a peer review journal published twice a year (January and July) by Management Development Centre (MDC)-Department of Management, Faculty of Economics, Universitas Islam Indonesia. Abstract

This study focused on consumer attitudes towards advertising. Many factors influenced consumer attitudes toward advertisement. This study explored the influence of two factors: consumer visual expectation and complexity of message delivery. 120 respondents have been involved and ANOVA has been employed in the study. Findings showed that advertising using unexpected visual information has more influence on advertising message involvement and consumer attitude toward advertisement than advertising using expected visual information. The findings also indicated that the need of cognition is a moderating variable for expected visual consumers and complexity of advertising message on consumer attitudes toward adverting. Keyword: need for cognition, consumer attitude, advertising, unexpected visual information,expected visual information

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the relationship between the existence of strong boards and external governance to accounting restatement. The strong boards were characterized and identified by board independence, audit independence, and board size. External governance is identified by B-Index that found by Gompers, Ishii, and Metrick (2003). The strong boards, was measured based on good corporate governance codes developed by KNKG (2006). Data are taken from annual report from 2003 until 2006 manufacturing companies listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange. The result shows that there is a positif relationship between strong boards and external governance to accounting restatement for large firm (measured by total assets). However, the study also found that there is negative relationship between strong boards and external governance to accounting restatement for small firm as measured by total assets.Keyword:    strong boards, external governance, accounting restatement, B-Index, board independence

Abstract

Kompetisi pada industri smartphone mendorong para peneliti dan praktisi untuk mengetahui motif  konsumen di balik intensi mereka untuk menggunakan smartphone. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis  anteseden  pada  sikap terhadap  penggunaan  dan  niat  menggunakan  BlackBerry di Yogyakarta. Anteseden pada sikap terhadap penggunaan tersebut terdiri dari lima faktor, yaitu hiburan, interaksi sosial, akses permanen, pelengah waktu, dan status/mode. Lima faktor tersebut merupakan perpanjangan dari model penerimaan teknologi (Technology Acceptance Model). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei menggunakan kuesioner. Terkumpul  160  kuesioner  dari responden  yang  merupakanmahasiswa  perguruan  tinggi  di Yogyakarta. Dengan menggunakan analisis regresi berganda, diperoleh hasil bahwa sikap terhadap penggunaan BlackBerry terbukti dipengaruhi oleh hiburan, interaksi sosial, akses permanen, dan pelengah waktu. Sedangkan variabel status/mode tidak berpengaruh pada sikap terhadap penggunaan BlackBerry. Selanjutnya, dilakukan analisis regresi sederhana dan diperoleh hasil bahwa  sikap  terhadap pengggunaan  BlackBerry  berpengaruh  positif  pada  niat  menggunakan BlackBerry.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine and analyze the effects of competence, leadership transformation, promotion, motivation to satisfaction and loyalty. To test these variables, this study uses lecturer of Semarang Merchant Marine Polytechnics as a research object, where they are mostly composed of lecturer who have a maritime educational background and work experience as a officer on board ship that joined to the national and international companies indomestic trade area and ocean going trade area with relatively higher income compared to income as an employee or ordinary civil servants. This research was conducted by survey method by distributing questionnaires to 62 people of lecturer who worked and teaches at Semarang Merchant Marine Polytechnics. This study used a non probability sampling with census sampling techniques. The results showed that a competence, leadership transformation, promotion and motivation had positively influence with the satisfaction of lecturer who worked and teaches at Semarang Merchant Marine Polytechnics. Besides teaching competence, leadership transformation, promotion and motivation had positively influence with loyalty of the lecturers who worked and taught at Semarang Merchant Marine Polytechnics through satisfaction variable, as a intervening variable.Keywords: Competence, leadership transformation, promotion, motivation, satisfaction, and loyalty

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to test empirically the effects of cross-functional integration, communication quality, completeness, commitment, capability, content strategy and organizational performance adaptability. With purposive sampling, respondents to this study is 120 executives from a total of 526 executives of small banks in the Province of Central Java. The data were analyzed using SEM (Structural Equation Model) with the AMOS program. The findings of this study indicate that all hypotheses have been significantly accepted. Thus, the managerial implications of these findings as an effort to improve the quality of organizational performance can be achieved through improving the quality of service content strategy that is built with highly adaptabilityKeywords: organizational performance, communication quality, completeness, commitment, capability, content strategy. AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji secara empiris efek lintas-fungsional integrasi, kualitas komunikasi, kelengkapan, komitmen, kemampuan, strategi konten dan kemampuan beradaptasi kinerja organisasi. Dengan metode purposive sampling, responden untuk penelitian ini adalah 120 eksekutif dari total 526 eksekutif perbankan kecil di Propinsi Jawa Tengah. Data kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan SEM (Structural Equation Model) dengan program AMOS. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa semua hipotesis yang dibangun dapat diterima secara significan. Implikasi manajerial dari temuan ini sebagai upaya meningkatkan kualitas kinerja organisasi dapat di capai melalui meningkatan kualitas pelayanan strategi konten yang dibangun dengan kemampuan adaptasi yang tinggi.Kata kunci: kinerja organisasi, kualitas komunikasi, kelengkapan, komitmen, kemampuan, strategi konten

Abstract

Principal–agent framework has paradigm used widely in accounting and economic to analize issues about performance evaluation, management controlling, and incentive system design (Jensen and Meckling, 1976). Due to leadership, agency relationship delegate power from leader to subordinate. Leader control subordinate’s performance with accountability mechanism. Another side, there is uncertainty in the business environment. Due to with this condition, vision is needed in order to there is a better change. Organization which can survive and growth is organization has leader with the vision to do changing sharply so leader able transformate organization capabilities to build competitive advantage of the firm (Kotter, 1996). Due to conflict of interest between leader and subordinate in agency relationship, transformational leadership style is convinced able to direct to superior performance in organization with four ways are idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized concideration (Bass and Avolio, 1994). Abstract

AbstractSocial capital of firms, either business or political ties, contributes positively on their performance. However, prior studies rarely examine whether business or political ties that contribute to firms’ performance. Based on social capital theory, we argue that business ties have greater contribution on Indonesian firms’ performance than political ones. Further, we predict that interdependency toward partner, either in business or politics, could strengthen the relationship between social capital and performance. A survey was conducted among 154 business managers or owners enlisted in KADIN Surabaya. Interestingly, political ties have greater influence on firms’ performance than business ties. High interdependency toward business or political partners could strengthen the positive influence of social capital on performance. Managerial and academic implications are further discussed.Keywords: business ties, political ties, interdependency, social capital theory, and performance AbstrakSumberdaya sosial (social capital) yang dimiliki perusahaan, baik berupa ikatan bisnis maupun politis, berkontribusi secara positif terhadap kinerja perusahaan. Namun, studi sebelumnya jarang menguji secara empiris apakah ikatan bisnis atau politis-kah yang berkontribusi terhadap kinerja perusahaan. Berdasarkan teori modal sosial, kami berargumentasi bahwa ikatan bisnislah yang berpengaruh lebih dominan terhadap kinerja perusahaan di Indonesia dibandingkan ikatan politis. Lebih lanjut, kami menggambarkan bahwa ketergantungan terhadap partner, baik partner bisnis maupun politis, akan memperkuat hubungan antara ikatan bisnis maupun politis terhadap kinerja perusahaan. Dengan melakukan survey terhadap 154 manajer atau pemilik perusahaan yang terdaftar pada KADIN Surabaya, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ikatan politis yang dimiliki pengusaha berpengaruh lebih dominan terhadap kinerja perusahaan. Ketergantungan yang tinggi terhadap partner (bisnis maupun politis) akan memperkuat hubungan antara ikatan yang ada terhadap kinerja perusahaan. Implikasi akademis dan manajerial akan dibahas lebih lanjut dalam tulisan ini.Kata kunci: ikatan bisnis, ikatan politis, ketergantungan, teori modal sosial, dan kinerja perusahaan

Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to test 1) the influence of rewards and control to sales force ethical behavior, 2) the influence of sales force ethical behavior to role conflict, performance and job satisfaction. Respondents of the research represent the automotive sales force at central java. This research adopts the instruments that are developed by Roman and Munuera (2005). Sample selection is performed based on purposive sampling. 212 respondents have fulfilled questionaires completely. The analysed use the path analysis. Result of research indicate that there are influence of rewards and control toward sales force ethical behavior. Findings also show that there are influence of ethical behavior toward role conflict and performance. Responden dalam penelitian ini wiraniaga perusahaan otomotif di Jawa Tengah. Metode pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan metode purposive sampling, 212 responden berhasil dikumpulkan dalam penelitian ini. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner. Penelitian ini mengadopsi instrumen yang dikembangkan oleh Roman dan Munuera (2005). Analisis data menggunakan analisis jalur. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan kompensasi dan pengawasan terhadap perilaku etis wiraniaga. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan adanya pengaruh yang signifikan perilaku etis wiraniaga terhadap konflik peran dan kinerja. Tidak terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan perilaku etis wiarniaga terhadap kepuasan kerja. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan tidak ada pengaruh yang signifikan dari konflik peran terhadap kepuasan kerja.Kata kunci: Kompensasi, Pengawasan, Perilaku etis, Konflik peran, Kinerja, Kepuasan kerja, Wiraniaga.

Abstract

ISO 9000 telah diterima secara luas sebagai acuan sistem manajemen kualitas dan penjaminan kualitas. Perusahaan-perusahaan yang memperoleh sertifikasi ISO dari tahun ke ke tahun mengalami pertumbu¬han yang pesat. Dengan implementasi dan memperoleh sertifikasi ISO 9000, banyak perusahaan di dunia mem¬peroleh peningkatan kinerja. Meskipun demikian, implementasi ISO 9000 juga dihadapkan pada sejumlah ham¬batan. Implementasi ISO 9000 seringkali dikaitkan dengan Total Quality Management (TQM). Banyak pihak yang menyatakan bahwa implementasi ISO 9000 sebagai langkah awal implementasi TQM. Namun antara ISO 9000 dengan TQM memiliki perbedaan yang mendasar. Oleh karena itu ISO 9000: 2000 sebagai revisi terhadap ISO 9000: 1994 didasarkan pada semangat total quality dan dipahami sebagai upaya lebih mendekatkan ISO 9000 dengan TQM.Kata kunci: ISO 9000, ISO 9001, ISO 9002, ISO 9003, ISO 9004, Total Quality Management
