Abstract

This paper presents an investigation of important factors relating sidewalk performance based on pedestrian perceptions by gender and age. Exploratory factor analysis technique and reliability test of the variables are performed on 45 items of sidewalk current condition in order to extract dimensions of pedestrian perceptions in Jakarta and Bangkok. Based on age, male respondents reveals that eight factors are identified as important on sidewalk performance, and labeled on the basis of the attributed covered as sidewalk interaction, comfort, space availability, safety, vendor problems, walking path, vendor regulation, and vendor’s attraction. On the other hand, the first seven factors are similarly stated by female respondents. Grouped by age, young respondents reveal nine factors are considered important and arbitrarily named as comfort, sidewalk interaction, safety, vendor’s attraction, vendor problems, vendor regulation, walking path, space availability, and sidewalk condition. The presence of vendors are often deemed as obstruction for walking flow, but their activities should be accommodated by establishing policies and management to accept high performance of the sidewalks and to support the city’s economy. Keywords: sidewalk, street vendor, factor analysis

Abstract

Safety is one of the main considerations in designing toll roads. Vehicle running at speed higher than the speed limit contribute to such a high number of traffic accident. PT Jasa Marga, the operator of Cipularang toll road, has taken preventive actions to reduce the number of accidents by installing transverse rumble strips. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of installing transverse rumble strips at Cipularang toll road in reducing the speed of light vehicles and the number of accidents. Using parametric and non-parametric tests, this study showed that the transverse rumble strips do not affect the speed of light vehicles. In addition, the transverse rumble strips has no significant effect in reducing the number of accidents either. Keywords: traffic safety, toll roads, transverse rumble strips, traffic accidents.

Abstract

Stacking of vehicles trouble especially motorcycles often happens to pass through the intersection stop line. Advanced Stop Area (ASA) for motorcycles is one of treatment to solve the problem. The purpose of this study is to compare values of saturated flow on the approach of intersections with and without ASA. The survey was conducted on the 4th to the 7th of June, 2012 at 16:00 to 18:00 at the intersection of Ahmad Yani Laswi, Pasteur-Sukajadi and Ir. H. Juanda - Surapati for the intersection with ASA and intersection of Gatot Subroto-Laswi and Ir. H. Juanda-Sulanjana for intersections without ASA in Bandung. Saturated flow for 9 m width protected with ASA is 4355 pcu/gh and without ASA is 4034 pcu/gh. The intersection with 9 m width of opposed with ASA is 4941 pcu/gh and without ASA is 4605 pcu/gh. The intersection with a width of 6 m opposed with ASA is 3427 pcu/gh and without ASA is 3255 pcu/gh. ASA will increase the value of saturation flow at 8% for protected intersection and 7.3% for opposed intersection width of 9 m, and 5.3% for opposed intersection width of 6 m. Influence the application of ASA at an intersection approach will be obvious to the departure of the data in units of vehicles, especially motorcycles units. Keywords: intersection, saturated flow, Advanced Stop Area (ASA)

Abstract

The aims of this study were to investigate the variables affecting the highway safety function and to evaluate the prediction of frequency and accident fatality by using HSM method in several roadway segments in Indonesia. The studied road segments were toll road segments such as Jakarta–Cikampek, Jakarta–Bogor–Ciawi (JAGORAWI), and Jakarta–Tanggerang toll road. The estimation of frequency and the fatality of accidents were developed from the prediction models, from which a combination of Safety Performance Functions (SPFs) and Empirical Baves method (EB). Based on the calculation, HSM method can be used to predicting accidents frequency in toll road segments with appropriate calibration factor (C) for each toll road or with consolidated calibration factor about 1,95. That value represents the accident rates on toll road segment in Indonesia is twice as big as America roadway segment. Keywords: HSM, SPFs, Calibration Factor, EB method, Toll Road

Abstract

One of the main causes of traffic accidents are noncompliance motorists, which include driving at high speed regardless of traffic signs indicating motor vehicle speed limit. This study discusses and evaluates the road characteristics and speed of road users, especially motor vehicles and the performance of the speed limit signs on Kapten Haryadi street, and the perception of road users for non-compliance with the signs in place. The method used is direct field surveys such as traffic survey, the survey speed with a local method using a Speed Gun, and a survey using a questionnaire. The results show that the total flow (Q) is 1771.2 pcu/hr, free flow velocity (FV) is 58,65 km/hr, road segment capacity (C) is 2883 smp/hr, and the degree of saturation is 0.614. Furthermore. It is shown that many violations of the speed limit signs occur in in Kapten Haryadi road segmen. Keywords: speed limit, traffic accidents, traffic violation.

Abstract

Quality of cargo management services is primary consumer expectation indicator measured by the dimension model and the minimum service time. Likert scale of five levels is use, analyzed with Important Performance Analysis and Performance Analysis Approach to portray the user perception and expectation. Five dimensions of quality aspect are selected such as reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and physical evidence. Two air cargo companies operating at Jakarta International Airport Soekarno Hatta are selected as respondents with sample sizes of 46 and 33 are observed. A grid with four quadrants is developed. The result shows that the two operator need improvement to reach minimum service time of 30 minutes. The existing system is in a range between 46 to 51.51 minutes to finish all system services steps. To reach the minimum service time, the operator management, equipment, and tools must be improved. Keywords: Domestic terminal, cargo, service quality, Importance Performance Analysis

Abstract

Quickly and precisely treatment in traffic accident is one way to avoid the risk of death victims. Therefore, it’s necessary to determine the fastest route from the traffic accident locations to the nearest hospital. The research objective was to determine the traffic accident blackspot of Surakarta city, the referral hospitals and the ambulance fastest route using GIS program. Determination of traffic accident blackspot used three methods, that are kernel density estimation, cluster and outlier analysis. Method of determining the fastest route mobilization is network analyst tool. Determination of the fastest route mobilization based on travel time. According to an analysis, there are 15 locations of traffic accident blackspots in Surakarta city. A referral hospitals in Surakarta city are Brayat Minulya, Dr. Moewardi, Dr. Oen, Kasih Ibu, Kustati, Panti Waluyo and PKU Muhammadiyah hospital. Mobilization route of the accidents victim has an average of travel time about 4.84 minutes. Keywords: traffic accident blackspot, hospital, GIS, fastest route
