Abstract

A teacher language is important for both the organization of the classroom and the processes of second and foreign language acquisition. The use of target language and native language is still discussion of English education experts now. This research aims to analyze and to describe teacher language relates to the use of native language and target language in teaching in EFL classroom and to find out the students’ perception toward teacher language in EFL classroom. The result of the research is expected to enrich theory of the use of native and target language in EFL classroom so that the theory can be used by teacher to refine the appropriate and effective use of native and target language in EFL classroom to improve students’ level of proficiency in English, especially in English Education Program in STAIN Parepare. The design of research is survey research. The research takes four English teachers (listening, speaking, reading, and writing teachers) as data resources. It uses observation and questionnaire in collecting data.  In analyzing data, the researchers use statistic descriptive. The research findings show Listening teacher uses 57% target language and 43% native language. The portion is perceived good. Speaking teacher uses 57% target language and 43% native language. The portion is perceived good. Reading teacher uses 92% target language and 8% native language. The portion is perceived good. Writing teacher uses 29% target language and 71% native language. Target language portion is perceived fair but native language portion is perceived good.

Abstract

This research was a classroom action research conducted at the second semester students of English Study Program IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo, academic year 2012/2013. This research was done into 2 cycles. The chief aim of this research was to investigate whether cloze test method can improve the students’ reading comprehension. The data of this research gained from observation sheet of lecturer’s activities, observation sheet of students’ learning activities, observation sheet of retelling, and test to know students’ reading comprehension in answering questions and retelling the reading texts. From analysis data of cycle 1 to cycle 2 it shown that the students’ reading comprehension in answering questions achieved 77.78% while students’ reading comprehension in retelling achieved 83,33%. It means that the action hypothesis the cloze test method can improve the students’ reading comprehension at the second semester of English Study Program of IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo of academic year 2013/2014 has proved and can be accepted.

Abstract

This writing discusses about English language lesson that can be used to implement character values on students or learners. English language teaching and learning, since then is considered as a lesson which only teaches the language skills, namely English language, which comes from secular countries. The teachers, generally, have perception that character education only can be implemented through religion lessons. They do not realize that English language also reflects character values that owned by the language users. Its values are reflected on the models of its sentences, for example the discipline value, the politeness and the honest. The sentences models are taken as the sample in this writing is “Tenses”.

Abstract

The parents and the family have important role in educating and delivering children to acquire their language. The process of children’ language acquisition is known as golden age phase, it is the important phase of human life. The success of development phase is determined here, because the children’ brain develop faster than the adult and it influences to their stimulus which come from their envronment, either in home or in school. Eventually, the children will have well knowledge according to previous information then connecting to the next information. The acquisition and the using of language (the ability of thinking) shows the children comprehension toward word/language meaning which basically depend on sense rasio and physical data.

Abstract

A leader is a man who has good knowledge and good skill; he is able to persuade others to do something together and to gain a goal. A leader is the individual who has talent; has power and authority to manage and to to direct his staffs or his followers. Leading does not ignore collaboration, because it must give chance to others to do the duties. A leader who has good morality should equip hisself with the terms which called three senses namely kindness, dedication, and neutrality. He also should have five moralities as the main aspect, namely wisdom, kindness, honesty, braveness, and diciplines. Leadership related to attitude and behaviour, logic intellectual and emotional mature, ability and skill. The skill of communication is an important element in implementing leadership activities. The quality is signed by the good communication between leader and his staffs or his followers, with using  the good and the contextual language.

Abstract

This paper is aimed at revealing the benefits of bilingual program in which English and the native language of the students are thought to learn subjects in classrooms. Through this paper, the writer studied the phenomena of bilingual education all over the world which is rooted in American history and then compared it with bilingual program in Indonesian schools, through the study of some references written on bilngual education and bilngual program.  This study showed that bilingual program in the United State of America was done to maintain and protect  cultural diversity of a great immigrant in America who spoke  English as the second language.   This study also showed that bilingual program in Asia is considered crucial by the government to make their people able to compete in international scope in field of business, education, politics, and tourism. In Indonesian schools, bilingual program is in form of teaching several subjects such as science and mathematics in English and the other subjects is taught in Indonesian. The final goal of bilingual program in Indonesia is to raise the standard of educational system. To achieve the goal,  government tried to set up some model schools and supported the other schools to become model schools.
