Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a significant impact, especially on the tourism industry. This study aimed to explore the management strategy of tourism education at the Indonesian Atsiri House during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the challenges encountered by the management and the effective measures implemented to overcome them. This study employs a qualitative case study method to examine the management strategy of tourism education at the Indonesian Atsiri House during the pandemic. The research methodology involves interviews, documentation analysis, and field observations. Key informants included the executive secretary, marketing division, tour guides, and tourists. Based on the analysis results, Indonesian Atsiri House effectively managed the challenges posed by the pandemic. Adequate facilities, adherence to government health protocols, and strategies focused on hygiene and health information, while medium-term strategies involved collaborating with various media platforms to promote Atsiri House. Long-term strategies included the renovation of tourist destinations and supporting facilities. This study described management and marketing strategies that could be used to reference other similar educational tours. Abstract

This study aims to estimate the value of tourists' willingness to pay and formulate a strategy for developing Baruna Beach tourism. This study used a mixed-methods approach, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative approach employed the contingent valuation method and descriptive statistics, while the qualitative approach utilized SWOT analysis and qualitative descriptive analysis. This study uses primary data. Taken with a questionnaire of 110 tourists and semi-structured interviews conducted with key persons (guards and related agencies). The results showed that as many as 87% of respondents were willing to pay additional costs for developing Baruna tourism. SWOT analysis indicates strong potential for growth, particularly in infrastructure and digital promotion. Integrating WTP with SWOT supports an aggressive strategy focused on environmental conservation, improved facilities, and sustainable revenue generation. This study contributes theoretically by linking economic valuation with strategic tourism management and practically by guiding local authorities in optimizing entrance fees and coastal infrastructure. Findings suggest that digital payment systems for WTP collection, as well as further research on the socio-cultural influences on WTP, are warranted. Despite its insights, the study is limited by accidental sampling, which excludes the perspectives of potential tourists. Future research should explore diverse pricing models and broader market segmentation for sustainable coastal tourism.

Abstract

Tourism is one of the leading sectors that makes a major contribution to the Indonesian economy, including in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. Throughout 2022, the number of visitors to TNBTS is expected to increase rapidly, which will also lead to an increase in non-tax state income. However, the increase in the number of visitors not only has a positive influence but also has a negative impact, mainly related to environmental concerns. Some of the problems that arise include climate change, socio-cultural degradation, and damage to ecosystems. Sustainable tourism through Green Tourism is an important component for achieving balanced tourism, benefiting both the economy and the environment. Therefore, this research aims to develop a Green-Tourism model in TNBTS. The method used in this research is a mixed-methods approach, employing a SWOT analysis methodology. The research results indicate that local communities and stakeholders can implement a green tourism strategy based on local participation and incorporating local culture, which can increase employment opportunities to absorb labor from rural communities and mitigate the current trend of urbanization.

Abstract

Protected forests located along the equator provide significant ecological services, such as oxygen production, water retention, and erosion control. The Langsa City protected forest, while ecologically valuable, has not fully leveraged its potential for tourism through recreational sports tourism infrastructure. This study aims to assess the readiness and safety of recreational sports tourism facilities in Langsa City's protected forest and explore their potential to contribute to local economic growth through tourism. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, incorporating field-based inventory and percentage analysis. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews with local stakeholders, and documentation of the existing recreational sports tourism facilities. The key results showed that while most facilities were in good condition, there were critical issues: PT. PEKOLA had not implemented an effective marketing strategy to attract visitors from outside the region, there was a lack of trained personnel to manage the facilities, and the infrastructure was underutilized, limiting its economic impact on the surrounding community. This research highlights the untapped potential of protected forests to drive a tourism-based economy. To maximize these benefits, it is recommended that the marketing strategy be improved, local staff be trained, and facility utilization be enhanced.

Abstract

Tourism literature that explains community resilience in the context of island destinations still requires in-depth study. This research aims to 1) identify the impact of COVID-19 on marine tourism attractions; 2) analyse the determining factors for sustainable marine tourism management; 3) analyse community efforts to revive marine tourism after COVID-19. A case study approach guided the authors in understanding marine tourism and issues related to COVID-19 and community resilience in Pulau Dua, Banggai Regency (Indonesia). The authors collected research data through interviews with residents, tourism business actors, and direct observation in research areas in August 2023. The research reveals that the COVID-19 pandemic is an unexpected event and affects the sustainability of marine tourism management. COVID-19 is the primary reason for the damage to tourism facilities. There are two key factors determining the sustainability of marine tourism: COVID-19 and the successful execution of events. Tourism stakeholders should seize the opportunity presented by the post-COVID-19 period to rebuild the marine tourism sector. This research proposes strategies that tourism stakeholders can implement to enhance community resilience. The local government can enhance resilience by planning and rebuilding tourist facilities on Pulau Dua. The regional government's commitment to sustaining the success of tourism events in Pulau Dua is a testament to its resilience. Local institutional resilience is a solution to restore Pulau Dua's image as a tourism icon and marine destination.
