Pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) is widely cultivated. One of pineapple plantationcenters in Riau Province is the Kampar district. The vegetative seedling technique ofpineapple is done using tissue culture techniques. Pineapple plant part that used as explantsin this study is fruit buds. Explants were cut into whole bud and bud sectionedlongitudinally. The growth regulator used was BAP with different concentration, i.e. 0.0,0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 mg/l in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium. This study aims todetermine the optimum concentration of BAP as well as the best explant part and to get thebest combination between treatments in shoot induction. The study design used randomizedblock design (RBD) factorial. The concentration of 1.0 mg/l BAP on whole bud explantsinduced 3 buds, while the bud sectioned longitudinally induced only one shoot on control, and concentration at 0.5 and 1.0 mg/l. Whole bud explants induced shoots in all of thetreatments except the control. The interaction between treatment and the combination thatcould induced the greatest number of shoot was the whole bud explants with the additionof 1.0 mg/l BAP.

The Arboretum University of Riau constitutes of a secondary forest in Pekanbaru. Manyplant genera exist in this Arboretum, therefore the litter produced has high content ofcellulosa that may provide suitable environment for many cellulolitic fungus. Thepurpose of this study was to obtain the cellulolytic fungus isolates by screening the soilthat collected from Arboretum University Riau, using Potato Dextrose Agar medium. The selection of cellulolytic fungus used Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose medium and wasindicated by the appearance of clear zona. Cellulase activities were determinated usingthe ratio of clear zone and colony diameter. The result identified 53 cellulolytic fungusisolates. The L4H4 isolate had the highest ratio (3,51). There were three ratio criterionsof clear zone to colony diameter in this study, i.e. high (24,53%), medium (35,85%) andlow (39,62%). The characterization result showed that 15 fungus isolates belonged tothe genera Aspergillus, Penicillium, Paecilomyces, Mucor and 2 isolates wereunidentified.

The diversity of Mangifera foetida Lour. (macang) in central Sumatra has not beenexplored and inventoried. On the other hand, the diversity of cultivars and varieties ofthis species is endangered due to the lost of its natural habitat. This research aimed toanalyze the diversity of macang in central Sumatra. The research was carried out fromDecember 2011 to June 2013. The morphological and agronomical characters of a totalof 66 macang trees had been observed. All of these observed characters were then scoredand analyzed using NTSYSpc 2.02 to determine their clustering and using Minitab toanalyze the principle component and correlation of Pearson. The result showed that thesimilarity coefficient ranged from 0.17 to 0.76. Dendogram constructed from thesimilairty coefficient showed two main groups, that clustered not based on the samplelocations but based on the character similarity (fruit color). The first group consisted of65 individuals and second group consisted of one individual. The result of Principlecomponent analysis showed two main groups, with the diversity accumulation value was40%. The results of correlation analysis of 66 characters showed that six characterswere positively corellated.

Biogas is one of alternative energy sources that fulfills future fuel needs. This studyaimed to analyse the potency of sago waste as fermentation substrate for biogasproduction. This research was done experimentally by employing sago waste materialsobtained from Sago Factory Nambus River from District West Tebing Tinggi Sub-province Meranti and fresh cow rumen liquid was obtained from slaughterhouse inPekanbaru. The biogas volume was calculated by measuring the volume of water thatwas pushed every 3 days, where the volume of water driven was proportional to thevolume of biogas produced. The bacterial cell numbers was counted using plate countmethod employing Nutrient Agar (NA). The substrate fermentation temperature and pHwere measured every 3 days. The highest biogas volume was produced by fermenter III(45760 ml) containing solid sago waste, liquid sago waste, and rumen liquid with ratio 1: 1 : 1 and the lowest was produced by fermenter II (1600 ml). The total bacterialinvolved in biogas production ranges from 1,87x10 5 – 2,87x10 8 CFU/ml samples. Thetemperature and pH of substrate fermetation was relatively constant during biogasproduction. The results showed that sago waste is potential as substrate for biogasproduction.

Ralstonia solanacearum is one of soil pathogen bacteria that attack horticulture plant.Chemical pesticides are used commonly to control bacteria. Using chemical pesticidescontinously can give negative effect for living things and the evironment. Some soilmicrobes produce antibacterial compounds. This study aimed to test the potential ofpeat land microbes at Rimbo Panjang Kampar to inhibit Ralstonia solanacearum. Thisstudy used agar disk method to calculate the ratio activity between the inhibition zoneand the colony diameter (Z/K) and then grouped into high, medium and low criteria.Twenty isolates of fungi that produced antibacteria against Ralstonia solanacearumconsisted of genus Penicillium and Trichoderma. Isolate RPL2-29 (Penicillium) had thehighest ratio (2.12) and isolate RPL2-38 (Penicillium) had the lowest ratio (1.14).Eleven isolates of actinomycetes that produced antibacteria consisted of Streptomyces,Micromonospora while 2 isolates has not been unidentified.Isolate RB3S51(Streptomyces sp.) had the highest ratio (2.87) and RB3S57 (Streptomyces sp.) had thelowest ratio (1.29).The high criteria was dominated by actinomycetes isolates of thegenus Streptomyces. Isolate RB3S51 (Streptomyces sp.) had the highest ratio (2.87) andthe lowest ratio of fungal isolates RPL2-38 with ratio 1.14. Based on thecharacterization, the fungi were classified into the genus Penicillium.
