Abstract

The increase energy needs along with the times resulted in the availability of energy derived from fossil fuels thinning. Utilization of natural gas as a potential replacement for fossil fuels because of national gas production shows increase.Natural gas as a  replacement for fossil fuels constrained in the storage process,  storageis oftenusediscompressed  natural  gas(CNG) andliquefied naturalgas(LNG). CNG storage constrained at high pressure (20 MPa) and LNG constrained in gas liquefaction process that requires  extremely low temperatures     (-161.5°C).Adsorbed natural gas (ANG) is a solution to reduce the pressure in the tube of about 3,5 to 4 MPa by utilizing the process of adsorption using activated carbon.Adsorptionmeasurement use volumetric method (isothermal) at temperatures  25oC with 10 bar pressureand variation of the mass flow rate (10 standard liter per minute and 20 standard liter per minute). The purpose of this study was to obtain data of methane (CH4)  stored and out (stuck) on the storage and also to  see temperature phenomena that occur in storage. From the test results,  the massof methane storedat10SLPMis33,19gram and20SLPMis43,63gram.As for themethanegasthat isstuckat10slpm is7,09gramand20slpmis16,54369gram. Abstract

Increased air pollution and fuel price volatility to the attention of the world that began to study alternative energy sources. Natural gas is an alternative that can replace fuel, natural gas used was methane. There are 3 natural gas  storage process LNG, CNG and ANG. LNG  requires extremely low temperatures  to  liquefy  the methane  gas whereas CNG  requires  a very  high pressure of 200 bar for storing methane, both of these processes require a very expensive cost, whereas ANG only requires a pressure of 4 bar for storing methane so that ANG is an excellent alternative possible. ANG process has been studied experimentally, while the simulation is still very  rare. This study uses  the simulation computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for  the ANG. This  modeling  using Fluent.  From this  simulation  can be obtained  the distribution of temperature, pressure, adsorption capacity and adsorption rate of capacity during the adsorption process occurs. The study was conducted at a pressure of 30 bar and a temperature of 300 K, in order to obtain the result of pressure and temperature distribution are influenced by the UDF equation  source  terms and methane gas adsorption capacity at the  time of 54000  seconds  is 0.069797 kg/kg, and the rate of adsorption at the time of 54000 seconds is 5.1x10-9kg/kg.s. Abstract

CBR (California Bearing Ratio) is one method for determining the bearing capacity of the subgrade . In highway planning , subgrade bearing capacity will affect the pavement thickness, the higher bearing capacity of subgrade makes the pavement thickness which needed to withstand the traffic load is getting thinner. Research conducted at the Laboratory of the CBR value is generally only done on the condition of the water content in a state of OMC and saturated, this study investigated the changes of CBR value with moisture content in the range of OMC to saturated of the sandy clay soils, and with clay in different contents. The results of this study indicate that, when the soil is compacted at OMC conditions, increasing contents of clay reduce CBR values, and submersion decreases CBR values of 14,294% at the top of sample and of 13,167 % at the bottom of sample. When soil is compacted with moisture content above OMC, increasing contents of water reduce CBR values.  Key Words: CBR, clay, water content

Abstract

Strength and durability of road pavement depend on engineering properties of subgrade. However, soils used as subgrade may not satisfy the required quality. Peat or organic soils is not to advantage of construction because bearing capacity or value of peat soil’s CBR is low. This paper intends to find out more about CBR value of organic soils on OMC and saturated condition . This research investigated the changes of CBR value with moisture content in the range of OMC to saturated. And influenced percentage varied of peat in mixture organic soils (clay and peat). The result of this study showed that for increasing of peat content reduce  CBR values at OMC condition. CBR value  in addition 10% of peat decreased CBR significantly  to 2,88 %  as compared  to original soil (clay) is about 23,88%.  And when compaction of soils with water content above OMC,  incresing content of water reduce  value of CBR.  Key Words: CBR, water content, peat

Abstract

In constructing the roadway, subgrade is the important part to supporting the whole traffic load/construction load above. The bearing capacity of subgrade influences the flexible pavement, if bearing capacity is higher, then the application of flexible pavement is fewer to support the traffic load. Subgrade is affected by type of soil, density of soil, water content and others (Hendarsin, 2000). Generally, design of parking area uses the geometric design of road method. This case is inappropriate with actual condition, because the load support to parking area is static load. Nowdays, parking area planning uses CBR's data, while CBR is used to dynamic load estimation. Therefore, this research will be doing study about correlation between CBR value and UCS.
