Abstract

Recently the traffic growth in Pekanbaru is fast. The intersection of Imam Munandar Street and BukitBarisan Street has high traffic flow. Therefore, it is necessary to perform a study to analyze theintersection condition to cope with problems related to the performance of unsignalized intersection.The primary data was obtained by collecting real traffic data. The primary data was used in the analysisin accordance with MKJI 1997. The result of the analysis showed that the peak hour was on Tuesday at17:00 to 18:00 WIB, the peak traffic flow (Q) was calculated as 2126.1 smp/hour, the capacity ( C ) was1990.69 smp/h, the degree of saturation ( DS ) was 1.068, the delay of intersecton traffic (DT1) was18.86 sec/smp, the delay of intersection geometry (DG) was 3.94, the intersection delay (D) was 22.80,the queue probability ( QP ) was 45.98%-91.60%. These indicate that the intersection requires evaluationand improvement.Key words: capacity, degree of saturation, delay, queue opportunities, MKJI1997

Abstract

Drainage system with retention pond and pump is the effective and effisien way for handling flood that happens. This study tries to keep the system for handling the flood at Belimbing Street of Dumai City. This study conducted a simulation retention pond and pump capacity by using water balance method. Retention pond and pump drainage system are designed using 10 year return period flood discharge. The discharge had been calculated by Rational method and IDF curve by Mononobe method. Reservoir pond need to be sized 5600 m3 (70m x 40m x 2m) and using effisien pumping capacity of 0,5 m3 / sec to handle the floodwater at Belimbing Street of Dumai City.Keywords: flood, drainage system, retention pond, pump

Abstract

Having cleaning water service is a public right. To date, however, clean water is a scarce for people of Sabak Auk District. Therefore, in order to meet the public demand, the Siak District administrator is required to increase the drinking water supplying system for district capital (SPAM IKK) in Sabak Auh. The primary water resource used by Regional Water Utility Company (PDAM) in Sabak Auh District comes from raw water originated from Parit Belading/Sudetan Siak Kecil which is transferred to water treatment plant in Sabak Auh District. Following processing, the water is transported through the transmission pipeline to the reservoir where the water is subsequently distributed to the consumers by means of distribution pipeline. The method used in this study is by performing Epanet 2.0, a computerized simulation model, approach by way of predicting the amount of water demand for the next few years till 2035. By using the consumer water demand data and the area map of Sabak Auh District, the clean water distribution service area is subsequently created. Total distribution pipe length is 20,320.84 m by means one pump of 10 l/s in capacity with 50 m head height. This clean water distribution system simulation of Sabak Auh District area is expected be to guidance in distribution pipeline plan of Regional Water Utility Company in Sabak Auh in the future. Keywords: Epanet, distribution system, clean water, Regional Water Utility Company (PDAM).

Abstract

Standard amount of water required progressively mount along growth of resident and industry. Exploiting of river as source of standard water require to utilize and fulfill standard amount of water required of society. Sei Salak reservoir pond  one of the form exploiting of river as source of standard water. To evaluate ability of pool to fulfill society amount of water required needed a study to calculate pool reliability of Sei Salak reservoir pond. Source of Sei Salak reservoir pond  come from year rainfall data 2000 up to year 2014 at station of inhil and of intake through salak river influenced by ebb. Stream debit inflow simulation pool with debit outflow with intake of water equal to 61 litre / second. The simulation results operational for 8 hours reservoir pool memilkik 100% reliability. The simulation results operational for 10 hours a reservoir pond memilkik reliability of 99.98%. The simulation results operational for 12 hours a reservoir pond memilkik reliability of 99.93%.  Keywords: reliability, amount of water required, reservoir pond, pool simulation

Abstract

This research study explained the effect of the addition of fly ash substitution of cement and steel slag substitution of sand against most properties of fresh concrete and hard concrete. This study aimed to determine the effect of fly ash and steel slag to most properties of fresh concrete and concrete hard to compare the results obtained with normal concrete so it can produce higher levels of tolerance in using a mixture of fly ash and steel slag on concrete. Testing and analysis done is workability, compressive strength, tensile strength, absorption, and porosity variations additions to the concrete normal quality 0% fly ash + 0% steel slag and 10% steel slag + 10% fly ash using portland composit cement with ordinary water immersion for 28 and 56 days. From the research results of mixing 10% steel slag + 10% fly ash in concrete obtained lower results on the testing of compressive strength and tensile strength apart than normal concrete, but the test results are still within the limits of the quality of the plan in order to obtain higher levels of tolerance is 10% , As for testing the absorption and porosity values generated in the concrete mix is higher than normal concrete.Keywords: steel slag, fly ash, workability, compressive strength, tensile strength, absorption, and porosity.

Abstract

Thermoelectric cooling is a heat pump equipment based works on peltier effect. When electric current was applied, the heat absorption occurs at the junction of the two metals and heatloss in another connection. The Benefits of using thermoelectrics could be applied via a portable beverage cooler. Therefore, the portable beverage cooler test using 1 peltier element TEC1-12706 type with capacity of cooler box is 4,7 liter. Cooler box dimensions arelength 24,7 cm, width 18,5 cm and height 18,5 cm. The data capture in this study are cooling chamber temperature, heat sink temperature, ambient temperature, the temperature of the inner wall and outer wall. The results show that steady temperature conditions are using of aluminum without cooling load 21°C after 45 minutes and a load of six beverage cans (1980 ml) 27,8°C after 50 minutes. Whereas a portable beverage cooler isn’t using ofaluminum without cooling load 24,6°C after 50 minutes and a load of six beverage cans (1980 ml) 27,7°C after 35 minutes. A portable beverage cooler is using aluminum has a better performance than a portable beverage cooler isn’t using aluminum.The greater cooling load then be longer performance of steady temperature. Abstract

Wind energy including renewable energy development. In previous research for the wind turbine of vertical type Darrieus H profile naca 2415 still slightly, thus lifted the title research on the performance of vertical wind turbine type Darrieus H profile naca 2415. The purpose of this research is to find the effect on the performance of the pitch angle for the vertical wind turbine type darrieus H with profile NACA 2415. This research uses experimental method, with varying wind speed and angle of pitch given of the wind speed 3.6 m/s, 4.15 m/s, 5.04 m/s and the variation the angle of pitch 0°, 10°, 20°, with a load of 250 grams. As for capturing data is wind speed and rotation shaft. The results of research on wind speed 3,69 m/s performance turbine are highest in large Angle of pitch 0° , with large value CP = 4,35 %, wind speed 4,15 m/s performance turbine more effective in large angle of pitch 0° , with large value CP = 3,80 % , wind speed 5,04 m/s performance turbine effective in large angle of pitch 0° , with large value CP = 2,42 % .Keyword: Darrieus H, Angle of pitch, Blade, NACA 2415

Abstract

Dynamometer is a measurement instrument that functions to measure the cutting force on a lathe machine. The dynamometer is a measuring of tool that using of a strain gauge sensor of utilizing strain, which occur on the stalk strain as the reader, then it is converted into cutting force. The main purpose of this study is to produce a dynamometer with type four square stalks for cutting force measurement, dynamometer designed to be able tomeasure the axial force and tangential force. The design process consists of designing, manufacturing and calibration processes. The design step is started from material selection, dynamometer selection and dynamometer dimensional design. The dimensions from design is then drawn detail and analyzed stress. After design process is complete, then the process of making the mechanical components and electrical components dynamometer. Afterthat, the dynamometer is assembled for calibration process. The calibration process consists of hysteresis and repeatability errors. This research revealed the hysteresis for maximum tangential force of 1 milivolt and for maximum axial force of 2 milivolt. The repeatability error was 2 milivolt for the maximum tangential force and maximum axial force of 2 milivolt. Dimension of the dynamometer of type four square stalks was a length of 185mm and a diameter of 65 mm. The dynamometer can measure maximum force 500 N for axial and tangential force.Keyword : Dynamometer, Cutting Force, Strain Gauge, Calibration

Abstract

The scheduling has an important role as a form of decision making. Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of University of Riau is a place to conduct some educational activities such as courses practice, experimental of laboratory, scientific research, teaching practice etc. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt the management information system for scheduling of laboratory equipments. This research aim is to design and develop a system to manage scheduling of data equipments in Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of University of Riau. The laboratory equipments scheduling system in Mechanical Engineering, University of Riau has grooves to come job as dynamic scheduling, which uncertain process the arrival of data equipments, either the number or its arrival. Method in this research used the dynamic scheduling of First Come First Served (FCFS) to determine the priority for decision making. Subsequence, this method was execution of sequence order based on the fastest time of arrival of orders. Developing of an application program used MySQL as database and PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) as a programming language. Based on the results of testing of the application software were obtained an optimal performance for the management system of scheduling equipments in Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, University of Riau. In conclusion, the new system provided a faster, efficient and accurate of equipments data management in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, University of Riau.Keywords: Laboratory Equipment, Dynamic Scheduling, First Come First Served (FCFS), PHP, Database.

Abstract

This paper presents the adsorption cooling system of double bed adsorberwith a working pairsactivated carbonmethanolas adsorbent-adsorbate that has a cooling capacity of 5000 BTU/hr-. This study is conducted experimental approach to investigate flow rate of cooling to the evaporatorof 1 kg/min.This studyaimed to know thetemperature of water comes out of from evaporator when the adsorption process. Cycle timewas given to the process of adsorption of 35 minutes and desorption of 50 minutes. Retrieval of data of the water temperaturecomes out of from evaporator using a thermometer ST-2 that was performed every5 minutes forpressure data retrievalfrom the pressure gauge.Process of adsorption cooling system of double bed adsorber through the process of adsorption (cooling, adsorption, and evaporation) and desorption (heating, desorption, and evaporation).In this studyalso aimed to generates COP (Coefficient of Performance) from the system. In this study resulted the lowest water temperature out of from evaporator of 26.2 °C, pressure of -60 cmHgwith evaporatorwater inlet temperature of 29.2 °C at time of 5 minutes adsorption processadsorber1.So the waterΔtwas 3 °C.
