Abstract

Buying decision is a customer’s decision whether they decide to buy or not to buy a product or service. E-commerce in Indonesia has experienced significant growth since 2019, from $40bn in 2019, and is expected to reach $130bn by 2025. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way people transact with their customers or colleagues to an electronically connected form, considering the health risk. Blibli is one of the largest marketplaces in Indonesia and has taken part in Indonesia’s e-commerce industry market since 2011. Therefore, the researchers wish to understand the factors influencing buying decision behavior in the Blibli marketplace in Indonesia. This research focuses on the Blibli marketplace in Indonesia, done through a quantitative approach using simple random sampling, with online questionnaires to obtain the data. Two hundred respondents were analyzed using Binary Logistic Regression through IBM SPSS. The findings show that price, product review, trust, ease of use, and scarcity significantly affect buying decisions in the Blibli Marketplace in Indonesia. However, results show that brand image, product description, and social media do not significantly affect buying decisions. Keywords: Buying decision, Price, Product review, Brand image, Trust, Ease of use, Product details, Scarcity, and Social media

Abstract

Motivation is the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behavior and is related to the performance of an individual in the workplace while Job stress is a phenomenon that affects employees differently, in different work contexts that could create an imbalance in a company. Both motivation and job stress could affect employee performance, especially in PT. ABC (not the real name). The researchers are using simple random sampling as a sample design by distributing a questionnaire through social media and analyzing it with BLUE classical assumption, and multiple linear regression by using SPSS. From 100 respondents, the result shows that motivation and job stress have a significant relationship with employee performance shown by the F-test and t-test. It also shows that motivation affects employee performance positively while job stress affects employee performance negatively. In conclusion, the result of the research shows that motivation could lead to better employee performance. This should be supported by keeping the motivation of the employees. It is also important to pay attention to the job stress which might occur in the company as it could lead to decreasing employee performance. Keywords: Motivation, Job stress, Employee performance, Human resource, Quantitative analysis

Abstract

Mergers and acquisitions (M&A), which have been a key corporate strategy that creates numerous advantages, are found to produce adverse effects. Instead of benefiting both parties, most M&As benefit the target company with good returns, leaving the acquirers with zero or negative stock returns. As agency problems might be the main cause, corporate governance comes as solutions that focus on better-structured Board of Directors. Despite its importance, study on this topic is still limited in Indonesia. Thus, the researchers conducted the research and analyzed the influence of board structure towards M&A performance, focusing on deals which acquirers are Indonesian manufacturing companies listed in the IDX within 2010-2019. Using board size, board independence, board ownership, and gender diversity as the independent variables, along with firm size, Return on Assets (ROA), debt ratio, Tobin’s Q, industry relatedness, and target public status as the control variables, study was done with 39 deals which have passed the purposive sampling criteria. All data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, resulting in gender diversity, firm size, and target public status significant and negatively affecting M&A performance. Conversely, board size, board independence, board ownership, firm size, ROA, debt ratio, Tobin’s Q, and industry relatedness appear insignificant towards M&A performance. Keywords: Board structure, Corporate governance, Board size, Board independence, Board ownership, gender diversity, Merger and acquisition performance, Cumulative abnormal return

Abstract

The tremendous growth in social media users, especially Instagram, has shown great changes in the way society interacts. Brands can no longer focus on the number of sales and revenue alone but also on how engaged their customers are with the brand on social media and how that can influence purchase intention. As one of the most successful e-commerce in Indonesia, Tokopedia shows great engagement on its social media. However, whether that engagement can translate directly or indirectly to purchase intention is still unknown. Aside from social media marketing activities, the role of brand equity is analyzed in the model as a mediating variable. This research focuses on Tokopedia users in Indonesia who have seen their marketing content on Instagram. A questionnaire was spread across social media platforms with simple random sampling methods. One hundred valid respondents were analyzed using PLS-SEM. Analysis showed that there is a significant relationship between social media marketing activities toward brand equity, a significant relationship between brand equity toward purchase intention, and an insignificant relationship between social media marketing activities towards purchase intention. Results also showed that there is an indirect-only mediation from brand equity in the relationship between social media marketing activities and purchase intention. Keywords: Social media marketing activities, Brand equity, Purchase intention, Tokopedia Indonesia

Abstract

Team leaders play an essential role in the success of a team and the organization as they occupy the position of responsibility. It is essential to find the right factors that make an effective team leader improve their effectiveness. External literature has found a positive correlation between leadership and emotional intelligence compared to managerial skills. Team leaders who use emotional intelligence can leverage their technical capabilities to bring the best out of their peers and achieve high performance. Emotional intelligence has 12 competencies that could be developed and trained to create highly effective team leaders. After a thorough assessment, it has been found that Danone Netherlands’ team leaders lack adaptability, conflict management, organizational awareness, self-regulation, and coaching. The Learning and Development team has its set of training programs. After an assessment to align it with emotional intelligence competencies, it has been found that the competencies of adaptability and conflict management lack training programs. It is recommended that Danone Netherlands’ learning team implement the recommended modules to fulfill the gap in adaptability and conflict management skills. Keywords: Team leaders, Emotional intelligence, Learning and development
