Abstract

Robert S. Lehman, dalam bukunya Impossible Modernism: T.S. Eliot, Walter Benjamin, and the Critique of Historical Reason (2016), memosisikan dirinya sebagai sarjana 'modernis tradisional'.

Therefore, unconsciously, pop-islamic fiction reducing the negative image of Mizan as pop-islamic publisher as well as showing the existence of islamic power. Abstract

This study aims to analyze astral projection as a concept of Death and Dying by using a postmodern fiction discourse analysis perspective in Insidious movie script. This study found that astral projection is a capability possessed by a person to leave physical body and explore an astral world or the spirit world. Astral projection is a death and dying concept that is presented as one of the postmodern fictional strategies known as superimposition. This strategy illustrates that there are two worlds that accumulate and co-exist with each other. Its presence is a way of deconstructing thoughts about something that is considered uncanny and unusual as well as a counterpart of totality that puts the ontological side of the existence of something. It is said by McHale (1987) that it is a sister-genre of postmodern fiction. Science fiction explores ontological issues in order to build a good story while postmodern fiction simply presents the problem without having to build a story. Furthermore, both genres can adopt each other's strategies. Meanwhile, postmodern fictional relations and fantasy fiction are the same, borrowing strategies for exploring ontological issues.

Abstract

The study examined three female characters in Kulisusu folklore, each titled: Perselingkuhan Istri Lakino Lipu; Putri yang Hilang; Lagumba dan Wa Ure-Ure Ngkamagi. Three of them narrated women in prototype uniformity, in a concept that is more fluid than some kindergarten like Bawang Putih Bawang Merah or Cinderella. Fluidity mean that the liberation of women from all forms of subordination: a class polarization that took shape into archetypes dichotomous construction. The characters are identified as women who are not only clever, but also able to make decisions in determining their fate. This study will address two issues: 1) how women were originally seated as "liyan"; 2) how the plot revolves and places women as "self". Both are implicated by using the feminism discourse perspective. The review will help parents sort out stories that address the values of plurality and gender equality principles, and stories that must be abandoned for internalizing the bias in the eyes of the quality.

Abstract

The re-writing of a fairy tale caters for characters, settings and values that have undergone changes, be it explicit or implicit. In Juliet Marillier’s Wildwood Dancing, the main female character Jena is transformed from the passive and obedient Twelfth/Youngest Princess of Grimm’s The Worn-Out Dancing Shoes into a brave and sensible figure. She challenges the oppression of patriarchal rules by taking control of her household in her father’s absence, securing her four sisters’ welfare, and keeping secret of their nocturnal dancing trips in the Other Kingdom despite being threatened by her domineering male cousin. In this way, Gerard Genette’s Hypertextuality strives to investigate the underlying patterns manifested in both literary works by applying the Re-vision element. Through it, Jena’s and the Twelfth/Youngest Princess’ sensibility trait and the socio-cultural settings surrounding them are highlighted in order to determine the importance of the overall hypertextuality process that takes place between the two. Later, Jena emerges as the more influential heroine than her predecessor character because she does not stop struggling to be regarded as an independent young woman who can always give advice and make decisions for her family affairs sensibly. Also, it is eventually proven that sensibility is indeed a strong weapon to be possessed by women in order to empower themselves against the conventions of a patriarchal world.
