Abstract

Maintaining peace in the world has always been a noble aim, yet it remains an endless polemic. The archipelago of Indonesia, known as Nusantara, is home to more than 600 ethnic groups and if it is not well organized, it can lead to conflicts. This study aims to examine Islamic values, especially those conveyed in the hadeeths of Saheeh Bukhari, the Chapter on Seeking Permission. The focus of this study is to examine the relevant hadeeths to identify the pillars that Muslims can use to build and nurture peace in the archipelago. This research is conducted through literature review approach. The content of the hadeeths is associated with events that occurred in Nusantara, both in the era of independence and in the era of reform to reveal the potentials of Muslims as a majority, to maintain peace and unity throughout the archipelago. The study reveals that the saheeh hadeeths related to greeting of salaam and its rules contain the basic pillars that can contribute to sustaining peace in the archipelago. These pillars ensure the security and safety of individuals’ privacy, public comfort, prevention of riots and conflicts, news monitoring, and maintain humanitarian values to always promote peace in stead of hostility. These values are still embraced in general by Muslims in the archipelago. The Muslims still observe the principles of Bhineka Tunggal Ika and Pancasila, which are key to maintain peace and unity of the homeland.

Abstract

Justru al-Qur’an memberikan landasan moral dalam membangun sistem demokrasi. AbstractSYURA AND DEMOCRACY IN QUR’AN PERSPECTIVES. This article examine the normative foundations of democracy in the Qur’an. In addition, it is also trying to compare between syura and democracy in the definitive level. This study departs from the debate among Muslim intellectual circles about the relationship between Islam and democracy. This debate resulted three views, namely: first, the relationship of mutualism symbiotic, that is the relationship between Islam and democracy are interdependent and complementary; second, antagonistic relationship, that Islam is incompatible with democracy coming from the Western world; Third, the relationship-critical reactive or reciprocal-critical, that is accepting the relationship between Islam and democracy, while providing a critical note. In this view, Islam has ethical values underlying democracy, as embodied in the principle of al-’adalah (justice), al-musawah (equation), and asy-syura (deliberation). In the Qur’an, there are verses that can be used as the basis of normative third basic principle of democracy. Thus, democracy is not at all contrary to the Qur’an. Precisely, Qur’an gives moral foundation in building a democratic system.

Abstract

This article examines the Islamic dialectics socio-culturallywhich inspires the establishment of Islam Nusantara. The method used in this research is qualitative with historical approach and included in the category of contemporary history. The step taken in this research is to reconstruct the tradition of IslamNusantara along with its cultural roots that lies behind it. The results show that: first, Islam has become the religion of most of the Indonesian people and has played many important roles in various social, political, economic, and cultural backgrounds. Secondly, Islam Nusantara is a typical Indonesian-Islamicstyle, which is a combination between Islamic theological teachings with the values of local traditions, cultures, and customs in this country. Third, the characters of Islam Nusantara show the existence of local wisdom in Indonesia that does not violate the teachings of Islam, instead they synergize the teachings of Islam with local customs scattered in Indonesia. Fourthly, Islam Nusantara is an Islamic practice in the country as a result of dialectics between shari'a text with local realities and culture. Therefore, Islam Nusantara comes not to change the doctrines of Islam, but to find ways how to embed Islamic values in the context of diverse cultural society.
