Abstract

Abstract

The study examines the media's framing of the Papuan riots, with a focus on protests against racial discrimination. It highlights how stereotypes like "lazy" and "separatist" exacerbate social tensions for Papuans, particularly in urban areas. Triggered by a racially charged incident in Surabaya, these riots led to significant protests in Papua and West Papua, receiving national media coverage. Through qualitative analysis of news from SKH Kompas and Tirto.id, the research shows selective framing, often emphasizing violence and commodifying racial tensions, which perpetuates discrimination. The study advocates for the reevaluation of media narratives to improve the representation of marginalized groups and promote dialogue and reconciliation.

Abstract

Pokdarwis (the Community-Based Tourism Organizations) is a significant player in the rural management of community-based tourism. Nevertheless, obstacles remain to implement organizational communication in Pokdarwis institutions regarding the coordination of internal and external relations. The objective of this study is to identify the Pokdarwis organizational communication model in community-based tourism management. This study was carried out in Situbondo Regency, East Java. Research data was collected through observation, interviews, and a literature study. Data was analyzed using descriptive and qualitative methods with an interactive approach. The analysis of data employs descriptive and qualitative methods in conjunction with an interactive model to disclose facts in the field of Pokdarwis organizational communication. The research found an organizational communication model in Pokdarwis institutions in Situbondo Regency. Internal organizational communication consists of internal organizational activities involving Pokdarwis administrators, whereas external organizational communication entails involving the external public in administrative and legal matters and constructing cooperation networks. This research can contribute to the formulation of policies, strategies, and goals as a basis for planning, implementing, and evaluating organizational activities that are expected to influence the effectiveness of Pokdarwis' organizational communication. The proposed model provides a strategic framework for improving the performance of Pokdarwis in community-based tourism, with potential application in other rural tourism contexts.

Abstract

Stunting is a major cause of under-five child mortality due to malnutrition. According to UNICEF, in 2022, 21.6% of children in Indonesia and over 11 million children in China were stunted, particularly in rural areas. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) in addressing stunting in both countries. RCCE involves effectively communicating stunting risks and fostering community participation in prevention and treatment efforts. A qualitative approach was employed, focusing on interpretive analysis of field data, including observations and interview with the Ministry of Health Indonesia. The findings reveal that both the Indonesian and Chinese governments have implemented commendable RCCE programs; however, their effectiveness can be further enhanced by strengthening communication, education, community participation, and monitoring. The study concludes that RCCE has significant potential to reduce stunting rates if implemented holistically and collaboratively.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the tourism and creative economy (Parekraf) sector to experience a significant negative impact. Destinations have an opportunity to build infrastructure for information and communication technology because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The smart tourism communication technology dimensions in this study refer to accessibility communication, informativeness communication, interactivity communication, and personalization communication. Quantitative methods were used with data collected through online questionnaires from 150 respondents and processed using the Partial Least Square programmed. The findings indicate that the four attributes of smart communication tourism technologies – informativeness, accessibility, interactivity, and personalization of communication – contribute to the creation of a pleasant and memorable experience for tourists. This research aids in the creation of a theoretical framework that integrates ME with the idea of smart tourism and mega-events. The results can assist the rural tourism sector in comprehending how smart tourism communication technologies affect travelers' pleasure, experience, and desire to return.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on students' thesis-writing abilities in higher education by evaluating its effects on writing proficiency, draft quality, and efficiency in thesis completion. The research employs Partial Least Squares (PLS) structural equation modeling to analyze data collected from 120 undergraduate students at UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta who frequently utilized AI tools such as Turnitin and Grammarly. Structured questionnaires with high reliability and validity were used for data collection. The findings reveal that AI tools significantly enhance technical aspects of thesis writing, including grammar, coherence, and vocabulary, resulting in improved thesis quality. However, their contribution to developing deeper academic skills, such as critical thinking and argumentation, remains limited. While AI tools effectively address surface-level issues and provide valuable suggestions, they do not adequately support the cultivation of advanced intellectual abilities required for rigorous academic writing. This study highlights the importance of integrating AI tools with traditional teaching methods. Educators are encouraged to use AI to assist with technical writing while continuing to teach critical thinking and argumentation to develop well-rounded writing skills. A balanced approach combining AI technology and human guidance is essential for fostering both technical proficiency and the intellectual depth necessary for high-quality thesis writing.
