Abstract

The flash floods accompanied by landslides in 2019 in the Lemau watershed area caused the loss of effective forest vegetation area, which can reduce soil moisture, evapotranspiration, infiltration, and increase surface runoff. This study aims to identify the level of community participation in Forest and Land Rehabilitation (RHL) activities in the Bukit Daun Protected Forest Area, Central Bengkulu Regency and examine the relationship between factors that influence the level of community participation in these activities. The data analysis method for the first objective was carried out through data formulation and classification to obtain meaningful interpretations, while the second objective was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Square (PLS). Respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique of 55 people. The results showed that the level of farmer participation in forest and land rehabilitation activities in Susup Village reached an average score of 4.29. The results of the SEM analysis show that the variables of dialogue, conveying aspirations (voice), dialogue to channel aspirations (liberating pedagogy), and reflecting on problems and actions (action-reflection-action) have a positive and significant effect on community participation in forest and land rehabilitation activities. For forest and land rehabilitation activities, it is necessary to increase environmental education and awareness through ongoing environmental socialization and education, which is important to raise public awareness about the long-term benefits of forest and land rehabilitation, so that participation is not only temporary, but becomes a shared culture. There needs to be strengthening of regulations and support from regional and central government policies to ensure the existence of rules that support post-rehabilitation forest protection and provide incentives for participating communities.

Abstract

This study examines the development of a coastal conservation model based on Community-Based Ecotourism to support sustainable development in Bohay Beach, Binor Village, Probolinggo. Using a qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and document analysis, the research reveals that Bohay Beach has experienced ecological pressure due to increasing tourism activities, including waste accumulation, habitat degradation, and declining coastal vegetation. However, community participation, local regulations, and collaborative governance between village authorities, community groups, and private partners have strengthened conservation efforts. The findings show that the CBE based model enhances ecological resilience through coral transplantation, mangrove rehabilitation, and marine monitoring, while also providing economic benefits through tourism services, MSME development, and job creation. Social welfare improves with stronger community cooperation, environmental awareness, and broader involvement in conservation programs. Furthermore, the integration of climate adaptation initiatives, such as the “Kampung Iklim” program, reinforces long-term ecosystem sustainability. Overall, the study concludes that the CBE-based conservation model effectively integrates ecological, economic, and social dimensions, making it a strategic framework for sustainable coastal development in Binor Village

Abstract

The increasing demand for clean water in coastal and rural areas requires affordable and environmentally friendly purification methods. This study investigates the utilization of bioactive compounds from Ageratum conyzoides leaves to enhance the quality of dug well water. Phytochemical screening revealed that the leaves contain tannins, flavonoids, saponins, polyphenols, essential oils, and various secondary metabolites with potential coagulating and antimicrobial properties. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy identified functional groups associated with phenolic, flavonoid, alkaloid, and terpenoid compounds, suggesting their role in natural coagulation processes. Coagulation tests using different dosages (15, 25, and 35 mg) demonstrated a significant reduction in turbidity, with the highest efficiency (68%) achieved at 15 mg dosage. These findings indicate that A. conyzoides leaf extract can serve as a sustainable bio-coagulant for improving dug well water quality. Further studies employing GC-MS and LC-MS are required to optimize compound characterization and strengthen its application in community-scale water treatment.

Abstract

Tidal flooding in Pemalang Regency continues to increase due to land subsidence and climate change, while disaster management remains reactive and sectoral in nature, lacking adaptive regulation based on actual risks. This study aims to analyze the strengthening of tidal flood management through the integration of Adaptive Governance and Risk-based Regulation approaches to produce a responsive, collaborative, and risk-based policy model. The study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study design through interviews with relevant agencies and affected communities, field observations, and document analysis. The results show that coordination between actors is still hierarchical, policy learning mechanisms do not result in the updating of strategic documents, and risk data is only used as supporting information and has not yet become the basis for binding regulations. In addition, local adaptive capacity has grown but is not yet supported by institutional structures and adequate budgetary provisions. The study concludes that tidal flood governance in Pemalang is in a transitional phase towards a more adaptive system, but requires the strengthening of risk-based regulations, the institutionalization of multi-level collaboration, and periodic policy updates in order to build long-term resilience to tidal flood threats

Abstract

Flooding is the most dominant natural disaster in Indonesia and has significant impacts on the socio-economic lives of communities, including farming households living around river basins (watersheds). One of the areas that experiences recurrent flooding is Pulau Kayu Aro Village, Sekernan District, Muaro Jambi Regency, which is located in the Batanghari Watershed. This study aims to estimate the economic losses of farming households caused by flooding. The research employed a descriptive quantitative and qualitative approach using a survey method on 50 flood-affected farming households selected purposively. Primary data were obtained through interviews using questionnaires, while secondary data were collected from relevant institutions. The estimation of economic losses was calculated based on direct and indirect losses. Direct losses include repair, damage, and replacement costs, while indirect losses cover prevenion costs, medical expenses, loss of income, and additional costs. The results show that the total economic loss of farming households in Pulau Kayu Aro Village reached IDR 1,345,776,900, with the largest contribution coming from indirect losses amounting to IDR 904,460,700, while direct losses amounted to IDR 441,316,200. The dominance of indirect losses indicates that the impacts of flooding are not only physical but also create sustained economic pressure on farming households. The government has undertaken various efforts to reduce the impacts of flooding in Pulau Kayu Aro Village through both structural and non-structural approaches. The River Basin Agency (BWS) VI Sumatra has constructed river embankments along the Batanghari Watershed, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Muaro Jambi Regency has improved preparedness through socialization, water level monitoring, and disaster response coordination, and the Environmental Agency of Muaro Jambi Regency supports flood mitigation through upstream reforestation, controlling environmentally damaging activities, and waste management. Synergy among institutions is a key factor in reducing flood risk and enhancing community resilience. Therefore, these findings are important as a basis for developing mitigation strategies, planning economic recovery, and formulating policies for the protection and empowerment of farming households in the study area. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening integrated flood mitigation strategies, both structural and non-structural, to reduce the economic losses of farming households.

Abstract

Phlaeoba fumosa is a species of grasshopper belonging to the order Orthoptera, and is often found in various terrestrial habitats, including agricultural land, forests, and grasslands. This grasshopper belongs to the herbivorous group that feeds on the leaves of various types of plants, including cultivated plants such as chillies and rice. This study aims to examine the relationship between abiotic factors and the mandible morphology of Phlaeoba fumosa grasshoppers living at different altitudes. Samples were collected using the Visual Encounter Survey (VES) method with direct capture by hand in the Merapi Valley area (±700 m above sea level) as data for highlands, and rice fields (±200 m above sea level) as data for lowlands. The abiotic factors tested included air temperature, air humidity, wind speed, soil temperature, soil pH, and light intensity. Leaf thickness was measured to determine the differences between leaves in high and low altitudes. The data were analysed using the Mann–Whitney and Spearman tests. The results showed that the mandibular rigi of grasshoppers living in highlands (449.33 ± 22.45 µm) were longer than those in lowlands (371.44 ± 55.35 µm), in response to thicker leaves due to lower temperatures and higher radiation exposure (p<0.05). Correlation analysis also showed that several abiotic factors, particularly air temperature, soil temperature, soil pH, humidity, and light intensity, were significantly related to the length of the mandibular protrusion of P. fumosa. This study reveals how environmental changes, particularly leaf thickness, drive morphological adaptations in herbivorous feeding organs.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the potential of natural tourist objects and attractions in the Lake Dendam Tak Sudah Natural Tourism Park (TWA), examine the Analysis of the Operational Area for Natural Tourist Attraction Objects (ADO-ODTWA) whether they are suitable for development, examine the characteristics and opinions of visitors regarding tourism development in the Lake Dendam Tak Sudah TWA, examine the characteristics and opinions of the community regarding tourism development in the Lake Dendam Tak Sudah TWA and formulate recommendations for tourism development strategies in the Lake Dendam Tak Sudah TWA. The research method uses the Regional Analysis of Operational Areas of Natural Tourist Attractions and Attractions (ADO – ODTWA) from the Directorate General of PHKA, Department of Forestry in 2003 to assess the potential of natural tourist attraction objects, descriptive analysis with a quantitative approach for the characteristics and opinions of the community and visitors and uses SWOT analysis for strategy development. The results of the research into the potential natural tourism attraction objects of TWA Lake Dendam Tak Sudah Jadi have a combination of natural beauty, unique ecosystem and cultural values ​​of the surrounding community, including Lake Dendam Tak Sudah itself, swamp forests and endemic vegetation, docks and boat tours as well as local culture. The results of the research also show that the TWA DDTS area is very suitable for development because it has an average feasibility index of 96.80%, with 9 criteria that are feasible and only 4 criteria that are not feasible, namely accommodation, visitor facilities and infrastructure, visitor management and marketing. Most of the visitors are not married because they are mostly teenagers. The majority of visitors' opinions about tourist attractions at TWA DDTS agree that they should be developed. The people of Dusun Besar Subdistrict are dominated by the productive age group, the education level of most of them is high school graduates with the majority of their livelihoods being traders. Most of the community is very supportive of tourism development in the TWA DDTS tourist area. The strategy for developing the TWA Air Hitam tourist attraction is at coordinates (1.413 ; 0.742) in quadrant I which has an aggressive strategy, namely 1) Development of ecotourism based on conservation and local wisdom 2) Empowerment of productive communities as drivers of natural tourism 3) Improvement of infrastructure and supporting facilities for natural tourism 4) Multi-stakeholder collaboration in developing sustainable tourism areas 5) Strengthening the image and promotion of natural tourism in Bengkulu Province

Abstract

Forests are a natural capital asset that provide various ecosystem services, including forest product provision, climate regulation, biodiversity conservation, water protection, and cultural services. However, various development policies still tend to ignore the total economic value (TEV) of forests, leading to short-term financial gains being the driving force behind land use decisions. This study aims to conduct a meta-analysis of forest economic valuation research to identify the economic value of forest ecosystem services, the factors influencing variations in economic value, and their implications for sustainable conservation policies. The research method used a systematic literature review approach following the PRISMA guidelines, synthesizing various reputable international articles. The meta-analysis results indicate that the economic value of forest ecosystem services is strongly influenced by forest type, valuation method, socioeconomic conditions, ecological characteristics, and the type of ecosystem service assessed. Global studies have shown that integrated ecosystem service valuation yields significantly higher economic value than timber forest product valuation alone. These findings reinforce the point that forest conservation not only provides ecological benefits but also provides long-term economic benefits for communities and governments. Therefore, the results of this meta-analysis can serve as a scientific basis for formulating policies on payments for environmental services, carbon trading, sustainable forest management, and low-carbon development.of economic valuation into forestry policies is necessary to reduce the rate of forest damage sustainably
