In playing its predominant role in Indonesia politics during the New Order era, the military, in fact, suffered from intergroup rivalry. The emerging ballance of power among the competing factions, on the one hand allowed Suharto to keep control the military and on the other hand complicates presidents relation to the military. The order to win internal struggle for power within the military faction, one of them invite more political opennes and encourage a wider opposition. The competing faction eventually gained nothing.

Policy prescription to privatize the Indonesia state owned entriprises has to be assessed critically. The assumption up. on which the prescription was made in fact cannot be upheld in Indonesia. In prizatization has to be pursued, it must be selectively chosen. The State need to prevent the heavy-burdened public service obligation shoud be prevented from privatization. Moreoever, what is relevant is professionalization, rather than privatization.

In so doing, they equipt themselves with capacity to manage their autonomy, improve their access to government institutions, and making use of public sphere. Observation at rural grassroots in Special Province of Yogyakarta reveals that there is a strong foundation for civil society. Self governing capacity has been well demonstrated in many forms within the daily live of the community: neigbourhood associations, policy advocacy and so on. The way they organise them mostly by revitalised the disfunctional organisation during the New Order government. Yet, more external fascilitation and support is needed still.

The world currently witnesing both globalization and globalism. Globalization manifests in economic, political and cultural domain, provides prescriptive judgement on what to do and not to do. Praxis of neoliberal globalism is problematic because what readily avaiable is prescription rather than philosopical refferent. The world has increasingly more integrated, and nation state has been obsolete not because of the truth, but rather the prescriptive nature of the ideology.

As the thurst of the current global capitalist order, neoliberalism has been philosopically suffer from a serious flaws_ Having presents the flaws, this article then demonstrates practical implication of the current attempt of liberalization in Indonesia. Not only capitalism has never been whole materialized in Indonesia, its brings Indonesia to uncertain direction. The attempt to minimize the role of the state has brought about serious fragmentation and it in turn opened up conflict over political-economic resources.

Neoliberalism has allowed the increasingly globalization of mass media flourishing within the control of a few multinational corporation. Privatization of the mass media held by the neoliberals has been presented as evident for the sceptics that mass media fail to perform as the fourth estate in democratic society. Ownership of the media by private capital would destroy the media independence.
