In mediating relationship between individuals and the public, film and television present women in a particular form of social construction. On the one hand, they allow creative processes and expression of individual rights to take place, but on the other hand they reinforce the functioning of capitalistic and patriachical presentation of women. While film and television allow women to be focussed of interest, yet they take part in supperimpose structural injustice through commodification of women for satisficing the predominantly patriarchic mind.

Mass media and jurnalism in Indonesia has been insensitive the notion of gender equality. Such insensitivity is apparent given: (1) the way journalists present fact, (2) the posision of media, (3) the position of journalist, and journalistic product. In order to improve the sensitivity, this article outlines what to be done ang how to do it.

Bringing about gender equality in press is not easy task. It requires five conditions to be meet simultaneously: (i) amendment of Act No. 40/1999; (ii) serious implementation of Indonesian Journalists Ethics Code; (iii) increase of woman journalists; (iv) stopping discrimination agains women in society; and (v) an atmosphere of gender justice in society.

Literature review shows that women gain more access to job in public relations. Observation in Yogyakarta shows that women are not easily top position in corporation due to understatement of the role of public relations in organizational structure. Discrimination against women is minimal except on family allowance.

As a modern technological invention cinema has numerous potentialities such as economic, social and political power. Fascist regimes as well as film corporations have employed cinema as a tool of propaganda to control and mobilize the masses for the sake of their power longevity. Moreover, the character of film itself is a perfect fascist medium which came from the network of proto-fascism of the twentieth century civilization. By using various genres of Indonesian cinema from different eras as a case study, this article argues that Indonesian propaganda films have monolithic representation which can be described as a cult of "bapakisme" (patronism), "kultur komando" (command culture), marginalisation of women role in Indonesian revolutionary movement and demonization of progressive women organisation, and glorification of the role of Soeharto in Indonesian revolutionary movement.

The phenomenon of hegemonic masculinity have been well understood, despite the fact that mass media in general and advertisement in particular, is a medium for contestation between masculinity and feminity. This article shows that, new feature of masculinity has come due to the adaptation of feminity. The new feature of masculinity has been known as metrosexual.

This article examines the relationship between the government and the media, arguing that both the government and the media workers can create a compact cooperation against terrorism. This can be used for combating the media strategy applied by the terrorist groups which tend to enjoy conflict with violence to spread their propaganda. Matrixing the changing faces of terrorism and the medias role in a conflict helps to facitilitate the government in handling terrorism.

There has been a shift on mode of analysing politics and mass media. Heavily influenced by socio-psycological approach, media initially was treated as political mean to create particular effects. In the light of this kind of analysis Indonesia witnesses tight control of the state over the mass media. The analysis of the politics of the media, then increasingly attracting more attention. The shifting leads us to an interesting fact. Not only the media perform it function as image maker, the politicians also perform better through the politics of image creation.
