Abstract

History notes that Muslim philosophers do not only merely discusses about philosophy, but they are also fluent in ethics. The last mentioned discourse is even one of most important topics in their philosophical discourses. The importance of ethics is reflected in the work of Al-Farabi, Ibnu Sina, Ibnu Maskawaih, Ibnu Bajjah, Al-Ghazali and others. Their discourses on ethics conclude with predomination and the happiness, which all of them are related to one’s faith attitude and behaviour. The concepts of ethics that the Muslim philosophers proposed are interesting and have more chance to be actualised in large aspect of daily life. In general, they divide ethic into three categories; courage, karam, and ‘iffah. For them, these concepts could be actualised through social interaction both in community and even in larger space, state. This article explains these ethical dimensions according to Al-Farabi, Ibnu Sina, Ibnu Maskawaih, Ibnu Bajjah, dan al-Ghazali.

Abstract

Ideal man in the perspective of Suhrawardi called a perfect man (insan kamil). They are the leaders who represent the position as caliph in the earth. Man is a perfect creature which has many advantages compared with other creatures, because they have senses and intellect that are able to penetrate the boundaries of the senses toward non-material objects indirectly through the process of syllogism. In addition, the five senses and the intellect of man is also endowed the hearts by Allah, such that the human heart can directly capture the non-material objects known as intuition. The ability to unite between rational knowledge and intuition with the guidance of the Qur'an and the Hadith, will form the perfect man to implement all the goodness in the life of this universe. This article reviews the ideal man according to al-Suhrawardi Maqtul stating that the perfect man is very important in creating a harmonious world order

Abstract

Intellect as perception never falls to be perceived mind without losing a large part of its substantial real during the perception. Intellect in itself has potential to evade from any attempt to perceive things objectively. Its ability to comprehensively explain subject is illogical because human’ capacity determines discourses that reveal rejection to it such as science, which is making attempt to deeply penetrate the field of religious and theological discourses. When human could not understand the intellect in them, so how could human understand the higher state than human consciousness in the hierarchy of existence? Being in the highest state, God undeservedly goes down to the realm of human knowledge. In the other words, God understands human, but human could not expect to understand God. At the same time, in the middle of the faith wave, human acknowledge that God is an indefinite mystery and is not reality that human intellect could perceive and understand. This article explores the positivism logic of Alfred Ayer and his critic to metaphysic of God

Persian triumph has influenced widely not only through the entire Islamic region in the world but also to the archipelago. One of the most prominent Persian influences in the development of Islamic teaching in archipelago is mystical ideas which derived from the Persian Sufi tradition. One of a growing pattern sufism in Indonesia which is typical of Persian is the concept of Wahdat al-wujud, ittihat and hulul. These three concepts put forward about the unification of the Creator (Khaliq) to the creature (Makhluk) who allegedly have links with faith communities Zoroasterian believed by pre-Islamic Persian. Finally, the Islamic civilization which flourished in Indonesia is a the combination of Islamic teachings and the spirit of the Persian spiritualism. This synthesis has led to a unique form and model of Islam that also raises a dynamic and controversial Sufi thought in the archipelago  (Indonesia)
