Abstract

Theological study has focused more on the theoretical and conceptual aspects. Thus, it is unable to answer various problems faced by the ummah and is unable to actualize social transformation. This paper aims to learn the values of social transformation in the theological thoughts of Muhammad Fethullah Gulen. The study findings revealed some values in the social transformation of his theological thoughts. First, He places human beings as an activator agent and viewed as a dynamic figure who embodies the role of social transformation. Second, a theological construct that puts human freedom and God's will in balance. This theology model provides an opportunity for humans to determine their own transformation but still accept God as the one who determines the results. Third, the notion of work ethic. Gulen suggests that to establish a social transformation, Muslims should be passionate, determinant, patient, aspirated, and courageous to spread goodness in the community. He offered this theological idea to encourage human beings to achieve a social transformation for future better and dignified Islam.

Abstract

Abstract: The conversion of State Islamic Institute to State Islamic University triggers  debate among intellectuals. Supporters of the conversion see the effort a way to islamize  knowledge. While the opponents see it differently, the conversion would secularize  knowledge. Starting from this point, this article closely studies the efforts of the Islamic  University in developing the knowledge, would it be directed to either secularization or  islamization one? To respond the question, this article offers as well as formulates the  blueprint of modified knowledge development at the Islamic University that is based on the  Quran. The blueprint is formulated through three main stages. Firstly, it positions Tauhid to be the foundation of the knowledge. Secondly, it formulates integrating curriculum that is  based on Islamic knowledge and sciences. Lastly, it revitalizes the value of practicality into  Islamic knowledge. The modified blueprint is expected to strengthen Islamic science that is  based on the true Tauhid. At the same time, it offers responsibility in responding the future  challenges.Abstrak: Transformasi status Institut Agama Islam Negeri menjadi Universitas Islam  Negeri memunculkan pro dan kontra di kalangan intelektual. Intelektual yang pro dengan  optimis memandang perubahan ini sebagai peluang islamisasi ilmu pengetahuan.  Sedangkan kalangan yang kontra menilainya sebagai bagian dari upaya sekularisasi ilmu- ilmu keislaman. Berangkat dari pertentangan pendapat di atas maka makalah ini ingin  mencermati ke mana arah pengembangan keilmuan UIN ini hendak dibawa? Apakah ia  akan mengarah kepada sekularisasi ilmu pengetahuan atau sebaliknya akan terjadi  qur‟anisasi ilmu pengetahuan? Untuk menjawab permasalahan di atas maka tulisan ini  menarwarkan sekaligus memformulasikan rekayasa blue print pengembangan keilmuan  UIN yang berbasis qur‟ani. Perancangan ini diformulasikan dalam tiga tahapan utama;  meletakkan landasan keilmuan berbasis tauhid, memformulasikan kurikulum yang  mengintergrasikan ilmu-ilmu keislaman dengan ilmu-ilmu umum, dan merevitalisasikan  nilai-nilai praktis dalam pengembangan ilmu-ilmu keislaman. Rekayasa blueprint ini  diharapkan menjadi formula penguatan sains Islam ke depan dengan landasan tauhid yang  benar sekaligus memiliki responsibilitas dalam menjawab tantangan masa depan.

Abstract

Al-Qur‟an is addressed to all mankind, who gave different reaction in accepting and believing it. Therefore, oaths in Qur-an are meant to remove doubt and misunderstanding and to make argument and confirm news. This is in accordance with the nature of Arab community who used to oath. Historically, the revelation could not be separated from the tradition of Arab community. Also the wisdom of the oath, it could not be detached from the condition of Arab at the time, which, historically, an oath was a hereditary tradition. They made an oath as a mean to affirm argument, assert command, or remove doubt from the opponent.

Abstract

The universal truth which is elaborated with liberalism, pluralism, rationalism, modernism, secularism, westernization, hedonism, and et cetera have become physiological striking forces against Muslim community in this modern era. Secular-liberalism has misconceived knowledge, religion, revelation, god and other keywords that define worldview on a civilization. Worldview is a value concept, motor of social change, foundation for understanding reality and scholarly activity, these all are found in Islam. The emergence of dichotomy thought in perceiving Islam in two ways; Islam-history, Islam normative, Islam liberal and Islam literal, objective and subjective truths, textual and contextual thinkings are worldview originated from West tradition. These approaches in turn will render difficulty to conceptualize epistemology of and authority in Islam. Ziauddin Sardar and Ali Syari’ati are two muslim scholars tying to develop the idea ofbuilding an islamic civilization, which is known as islamization of civilization. both reject the advance of west technology to help  progress of muslim society. Ismail Raji al-Faruqi even argues that the islamization of islamic civilization must be taken through islamizing the knowledge

Abstract

This article describes the study on the interpretation of the surah al-Maidah: 51. Literally, the surah: 51 prohibit the Muslims from electing and appointing a Christian and a Jew as an awliya. The researcher used the Jorge J. E Gracia’s hermeneutic approach in a book called A Theory of Textuality. The study also uses qualitative methods with a library research. Gracia's main theories include the nature of interpretation, interpreters’ dilemma and interpretation function (historical function, meaning development function and implication function). Interpretation typology can assess the truth and plurality of interpretations truth, objectivity and subjectivity of interpretation, and the concept of understanding.Abstrak: Artikel ini berisi penelitian tentang penafsiran Al-Qur’an surah al-Maidah: 51. Secara literal, Al-Qur’an surah :51 berisi tentang larangan tentang umat Muslim dalam memilih dan mengangkat seorang Nasrani dan Yahudi menjadi seorang awliya’. Peneliti Menggunakan pendekatan hermenuetika Jorge J.E Gracia dalam buku yang berjudul A Theory of textuality. Penelitian juga menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, dengan jelas penelitian library research . Teori-teori pokok Gracia meliputi hakekat interpretasi, dilema seorang penafsir dan fungsi interpretasi (fungsi histori,fungsi perkembangan makna dan fungsi implikasi) tipologi penafsiran bisa dinilai kebenaran dan pluralitas kebenaran interpretasi,obyektivitas dan subyektivitas penafsiran,serta konsep mengenai pemahaman.

Abstract

Nasikh and mansukh is one of interesting studies, not only among Muslims, but also for orientalists. The alleged revision of some verses of the Qur'an is often used as an excuse for the Qur'anic authenticity by some orientalists, because of its inconsistency in establishing a rule or law. Unlike Orientalists, the internal nasakh verse of the Qur'an is believed by Muslims to have a lot of wisdom for the ease and the welfare of Muslims. The clerical debate surrounding the internal nasakh verses of the Qur'an is divided into those who believe in the existence of the nasakh and the rejecting classes. Controversy surrounding definition, kind and number of verses of nasakh need to be addressed wisely with new meaning so that can accommodate existing opinions.

Abstract

Issues on liberation in all religions lead to emerge a lot of thinkers both in  orthodox and modern theology. These issues aims at not making a doctrine or  creed an absolute way of life for a believer or an absolute conduct for a citizen. In  historical perspective, absolute doctrine or creed is usually made by a dictator for  his or her permanently political power. Consequently, a believer or a citizen in  one community is hampered in communication and not tolerant to the other  believer or to other community. This rigid condition, at the end, usually leads to  criticism and protest of some critical thinkers either to the religious elites or the  rulers of one country. To mention, there are some theological liberation sects or  movements: rational theology, transformative theology, contextual theology,  humanism, Dalif and Minjung. In politics, the super power or developed countries  produce maps as geographical perspective to divide, to limit, to control and to rule  under developed countries either in economy, social, cultural and religion. Asia,  Africa and Latin America are supposed to be the third worlds (poor countries)  under the control of super powers as rich countries.

Abstract

Interpretation is human effort to explore their highest ability to understand  the scare text as meant by the Owner of the text. The effort is not easy, indeed.  Because every written or spoken word is only well understood by the owner.  Thus, the truth resulted from any interpretation is not absolute. For this purpose,  interpreter of Qur-an take particular methodologies to interpret the scare book,  especially in determining source or references that they will use for interpretation.  The variety of methodology can be seen from the interpretation they resulted.

Abstract

Social philosophy is a branch of philosophy which studies social issues in a critical, radical and comprehensive manner. Since it was formulated, Social philosophy has deconstructed the public understanding in term of not all the creations under the sky directly regulated by the power of God forever and ever. Demolition of public understanding on a large scale occurred just as the emergence of the French revolution, which undermined the feudal social order and begin the process of democratization that generated the spectacular surprises, since no one had previously imagined that a social order which was supposed unchangeable and forever blessed by the will of God has been overhauled and replaced by thoughts of human being. This situation has been strengthen by the development of Frankfurt’s school which developed a critical social science which gradually has been spread to all over the world.

Abstract

The presence of religion, especially the religions of mission, in human life has  established a separate civilization characteristics which can lead to a clash of civilization  which is assumed in the form of inter-group conflict of civilizations. The clash believed to be a  necessity is mainly triggered by modernity which in the end led to the secularization. The  above assumptions initiated by Huntington still can be criticized for several reasons. However,  the tolerance between civilizations should be implemented. In this regard, multiculturalism as  the willingness to accept other groups equally as an entity regardless of cultural differences,  ethnicity, gender, language, religion or country becomes important to be discussed. Likewise, vertical and horizontal dialogue should be the most essential way to cultivate harmonious life  among all religious people.
