Abstract

This study aims to look at the implications for resilience in the border areas of Indonesia and Malaysia, reviewed from the existence of migrant workers, with a case study in West Kalimantan Province. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method based on the results of primary and secondary data analysis, data is obtained through searches of government websites, news, and reputable journals. The data obtained is then analyzed and then described according to the circumstances found factually which are then drawn conclusions from the data. The results of the study show that the border relationship between West Kalimantan and Sarawak Malaysia has long been the focus of attention, both in terms of economy and security. Cross-border trade and close social ties between the peoples of the two regions support the local economy. The data shows fluctuations in the number of illegal migrant workers from 2019 to 2023. In 2019, Indonesia recorded the highest number with 5,824 illegal workers, while Malaysia recorded 1,428 illegal workers. This number decreased drastically in 2020 due to various factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite efforts to overcome this problem, it still faces various challenges, so strict law enforcement and international cooperation are urgently needed to reduce the number of illegal workers. Differences in remittance/goods remittance activities between migrant and non-migrant workers open up opportunities to improve inclusive financial services. Participation in investment remained low in both groups, indicating the need for training programs and incentives to improve the financial literacy of migrant workers. Governments and the private sector need to work together to provide access to financial services and better rights protections for migrant workers. This collaborative effort is expected to create a sustainable positive impact on migrant workers and the community as a whole. This study provides insight into the complexity of dealing with illegal migrant workers on the border of West Kalimantan and potential solutions through a cooperative governance approach.

Abstract

ABSTRACTCurrently, the agricultural sector in Indonesia is faced with the problem of poor regeneration of agricultural human resources. Therefore, it is necessary to have an effective strategy in an effort to overcome these problems, namely by developing entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector accompanied by efforts to build the interest and behavior of the younger generation, especially the educated younger generation, to become agricultural entrepreneurs. This study discusses the role of digitalization programs in increasing young people’s interest in agricultural entrepreneurship and its implications for regional resilience in Bogor, West Java. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method to deeply understand how digital resilience can influence the interest and engagement of the younger generation in agricultural entrepreneurship. This case study focuses on IPB Bogor students and alumni who participated in the Growing Young Agricultural Entrepreneurs (PWMP) activities in 2016 and 2017. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. Then the data was analyzed using an interactive analysis model by Miles & Huberman (2014) to understand and interpret the data through an iterative process. The results showed that digital resilience plays an important role in increasing young people’s interest in agricultural entrepreneurship. Access to information in influencing the formation of the educated young generation’s attitude towards agricultural entrepreneurship, through direct self-experience is reflected by access to information through family, peer-group, school, mass media, and the internet. The digitalization program in agriculture offers a solution to increase the interest of the younger generation in agriculture, develop agricultural entrepreneurship, and strengthen regional resilience in Bogor, West Java. Through the adoption of technology, the agricultural sector can become more modern, efficient, and sustainable, creating new opportunities for the younger generation and supporting sustainable regional development. Keywords: access to information, educated youth, enterpreneurship in the

Abstract

ABSTRACT  Students in their daily lives have a high tendency to use smartphones, so they are very vulnerable to being exposed to phubbing behaviour. Therefore, students need self-regulation as an ability to deal with various vulnerabilities that are present continuously, so that an effort is needed to mitigate, navigate, and intervene in personal resilience of student. Researchers used a mixed-methdos explanatory design to obtain data on the role and description of self-regulation on phubbing behaviour, as well as its implications for the personal resilience of Gadjah Mada University students. In quantitative research, 177 student participants were obtained, while in qualitative research, 6 student participants were obtained. The results showed that self-regulation has a significant role in phubbing behaviour in Gadjah Mada University students. There are 76% of students in the category of moderate self-regulation and moderate phubbing behaviour. In self-regulation there are two abilities, namely external abilities and internal abilities. While in phubbing behaviour there are two tendencies, namely phubbing victims and phubbing perpetrators. The combination of internal and external abilities can help students manage phubbing behaviour more effectively, indicating that strong self-regulation can reduce the tendency to engage in phubbing behaviour. Then on the implications of the research, it was found that students' personal resilience becomes vulnerable when they become phubbing perpetrators or phubbing victims and present new threats, disturbances, obstacles, and challenges (AGHT) for students as the successor to the leadership of the nation and state.

Abstract

ABSTRACTModern agriculture is a more advanced agricultural system, starting from land processing technology, plant maintenance, pest and disease control, to harvest and post-harvest activities. Modern agriculture with the use of agricultural tools and machinery can increased productivity and business efficiency. The aim of this research was to determine the performance of modern agricultural businesses compared to conventional farming. This study used experimental and survey methods. The experimental method was used for the purpose of collecting data on the application of modern agriculture, while the survey method was used to collect data on the application of conventional agriculture. The sample used in this study was determined purposively as many as 40 people, namely farmers who farm rice conventionally. The analysis used was descriptive analysis by calculating the costs and income of rice farming and comparing the implementation of modern agriculture and conventional agriculture.Based on the results of the financial analysis, the costs of modern rice farming were still relatively high compared to conventional farming, but the production results obtained by modern rice farming were relatively higher compared to conventional farming. This was because the use of combine harvester can reduce the risk of damage and loss of yields on the land.

Abstract

Population growth in Balikpapan City is very high, Based on data from BPS Kaltim, the population growth rate from 2020 to 2022 is 1.26%  and Balikpapan City has been designated as a buffer city for the capital of the archipelago, this is currently one of the national development priorities. There are many immigrants both from Kalimantan Island and from outside the island, which reduces the opportunities for Balikpapan City residents to earn income and increase family economic resilience. The scrap metal business as an Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) is an opportunity to expand employment for the people of Balikpapan City, with the potential availability of scrap iron in Balikpapan City and also driven by the relatively high national demand for iron raw materials. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the role of scrap metal business actors as MSMEs and its implications for the economic resilience of families in Balikpapan City. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach to explain the actual situation that is occurring and answer problems using scientific procedures. The research location is in Balikpapan City, with the objects studied being scrap metal business actors from various categories. Informants were selected using purposive sampling techniques and strengthened by snowball sampling. Data was analyzed qualitatively by data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions. The results of data analysis show that the role of scrap metal business actors in Balikpapan City between the three categories which include prospectors, collectors and scrap metal senders has a related relationship in terms of meeting scrap metal needs and fulfilling business capital. In terms of implications for family economic resilience, it was found that the economic resilience of prospectors for scrap metal was still weak because only four of the seven indicators of family economic resilience were fulfilled. Meanwhile, scrap metal collectors and shippers have strong family economic resilience, because they have fulfilled six of the seven indicators of family economic resilience.
