Abstract

This research aims to find out the effect of the cooperative problem-based learning on the improvement of the critical thinking and interpersonal intelligence of the fifth-grade students. This research was a quasi-experiment with the pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects were all fifth-grade students of SDN Liang Anggang 1, Pandahan 1, and Pandahan 2, Bati-Bati District of South Kalimantan in the second semester of the academic year 2015/2016. Data collection techniques that used were test and scale technique. The test was used to find out the critical thinking and the scale were used to find out the interpersonal intelligence. The hypothesis was tested using t-test and MANOVA with 0.05 significant levels. The result of this research shows that the use of the cooperative problem-based learning model in natural science teaching is effective in improving critical thinking and interpersonal intelligence of the fifth-grade students. Based on the result of t-test in posttest, the experimental I and II with control group show that the sig. 0.05 and the result of the MANOVA in the experimental I and II with control group show that the significant value 0.000 ˂ 0.05.

Abstract

Natural science learning in elementary schools is considered difficult by students due to its complexity. Teachers have not been fully able to present the natural science lesson in accordance to the characteristics of elementary school students who are still love to play. Those making the learning process and outcomes have not been maximized and require learning media to overcome the problem. This study aimed to: (1) understanding the way to develop science monopoly in Force learning material; and (2) understanding the quality and feasibility of science monopoly. This study was research and development by ADDIE model in five stages, which are; analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The test of the product was conducted to the 4thgrade students of Muhammadiyah Bausasran 1 Elementary School, Yogyakarta. Instruments have been stated as valid by the expert judgement. The instruments were questionnaire of the feasibility of material, media, and learning expert; questionnaire of students response; and teacher response. Data analysis techniques were qualitative and quantitative data analysis. The assessment score of the media expert validation was 86.5 (very good), subject material expert was 87.5 (very good), learning expert was 85 (very good), teacher response was 100 (very good), and students response was 92.5 (very good). Thus, the learning media of science monopoly on force learning materials for elementary students was already feasible to use as a media of natural science learning.

This study was classroom action research. The subjects were 26 students of the fifth grade. The techniques for collecting data were observation, task, and documentation. The instruments of the data collection were observation sheets and writing performance. The result of this study showed that the process approach with the discovery learning method could improve the experimental report writing skills of the fifth-grade students of Muhammadiyah Sapen Elementary School Yogyakarta. It could be seen from the result of students’ observation sheet and writing performance. The observation result indicated the increase of the process and result of experimental report writing skills with the average score of 74.88 in Cycle I to 89.38 in Cycle II. The percentage of the Minimum Criteria for Mastery Learning in Cycle I was 60% and increased to 96% in Cycle II, with 24 the students achieved the mastery level and one failed. This showed that the students’ classical mastery was achieved.

Abstract

The research aimed to develop a learning media in form of board game about waste sorting for fourth grade students due to the lack of students’ awareness about the purpose of waste sorting. The research used descriptive method to make a description or representation about a fact from real phenomenon, which was about waste sorting that considered less important in society and must be informed since early stage. Strategy of the research was linear strategy that consisted of some phases: (1) Data Collection Phase, (2) Data Analysis and Processing Phase, (3) Product Design Phasee, and (4) Testing Phase. The approach of the research was mix method, combination of qualitative and quantitative. Research subjects at testing phase were 42 students of fourth grade of St. Theresia Marsudirini 77 Salatiga, an Adiwiyata Elementary School. The result of the research showed that, (1) 95 percent of students more interested in learning using a game, (2) “Pilah Sampah” board game was well successfully delivered the learning material about organic and non organic waste, (3) using of board game as learning media alternative was rated good both by teacher and board game expert, based on product questionnaire.

Abstract

The study aimed at attaining an overview on teaching experiences by means of guided inquiry model of the scientific approach in order to inculcate the scientific attitudes among the students of Luqman Al Hakim International Integrated Islamic Primary School Yogyakarta. The study was a qualitative research using the ethnographic classroom approach. The subjects in this study were the headmaster, the homeroom teachers of Grade 4A students, and the Grade 4A students. In collecting the data, the researchers conducted interview, observation, and documentation. Then, the instruments that the researchers employed were the interview guidelines and the observation guidelines. The data in this study were analyzed using Lankshear and Knobel models and the analysis also included the data that had been attained from both the observation and the interview. In order to test the data validity, the researchers conducted the subject triangulation and the method triangulation. The findings in this study thus revealed that the teaching activities that make use of the scientific approach consists of seven strands of learning cycles and these strands include the spiritual, moral, intellectual, physical, interpersonal, cultural, and social aspects. Each aspect has specific purpose and, as a result, by implementing each aspect the students will have the scientific attitudes similar to those owned by a scientist in solving their problems. The recounted teaching experiences, which made use of the scientific approach, have shown similarities in that teaching activities become more meaningful if they are conducted realistically with various learning activities both inside and outside the classroom. The constraints in the application of the scientific approach are varying the teachers’ ability in understanding the scientific approach, varying the learning styles and the learning abilities, and varying the learning process for the students who need special assistance.

Abstract

The study aimed at: (1) developing inquiry-based lectora multimedia which is eligible to increase the logical ability and the creative thinking of the fifth-grade students; and (2) measuring the effectiveness of the inquiry-based lectora multimedia development in increasing the logical ability and the creative thinking of the fifth-grade students. The study was a research and development (R D) effort. The developmental design of the study was adopted from the procedures proposed by Borg Gall. In the preliminary field testing, the researcher involved three fifth-grade students from SD Jetis, Bantul. Then, in the main field testing the researcher involved eight fifth-grade students who were not involved in the preliminary field testing. Finally, in the operational field testing the researcher involved 33 students from Grade VA. The product of this study will be an inquiry-based lectora multimedia. Based on the research and development that had been conducted, 117 material experts and 87 learning experts declared that the inquiry-based lectora multimedia development is feasible with “Highly Valid” assessment category. The inquiry-based lectora multimedia development is effective to increase the logical ability and the creative thinking of the fifth-grade students. From the operational field testing, the researcher found that p = 0.003 0.050 and this finding implies that there is an increase in the logical ability and the creative thinking of the fifth-grade students who had been taught using the inquiry-based lectora multimedia in comparison to the students who were not taught using the inquiry-based lectora multimedia.

Abstract

This research aimed (1) to produce thematic-integrated module based on a guided-discovery to improve critical thinking and scientific attitude of grade IV students of SDN Margoyasan, and (2) to know the effectiveness of the developed learning module. The research was Research and development of Borg and Gall model which consisted of ten steps. The data were collected by interview, product evaluation, questionnaires, observation, and examination. The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test with significant level of 0.05. The research result were (1) thematic-integrated module based on a guided-discovery. The product feasibility that was assessed based on material expert, media expert, teacher’s and student’s responses was very feasible. (2) The results of field trial test showed that the developed thematic-integrated module based on a guided-discovery was effective to improve the student’s critical thinking and scientific attitude, and it was based on the operational field trial test which obtained p0.05, means that there are significant differences on students who were taught by using the developed learning module compare to student who were not taught by using the developed learning module.
