Abstract

This research aims to know the influence of chili’s seed priming on improving germination, growth, and development in the field, before, during, and after stress conditions (water stress and disease). Priming is a technique of seed pretreatment with osmoticum solution or moist solids, which allows slow inbibition; thus radicals emergence and growth are prevented. It is a simple and easy technique to apply, which can increase the germination, and performance or vigour in a broad spectrum. Implementation is in three trials, each trial consisting of 2 stages. The first stage on the early experiment was priming (priming treatment with 4 days incubation and priming test), and the second stage was the germination (germinating the seed that has been treated by priming and germination test). The first stage on the further experiment is priming and the second stage were growth and development test before, during, and after the stress conditions. The results showed that seed priming treatments can maintain and improve the quality of seeds, and increase germination, both germination percentage and germination rate, as well as enhance the growth of plant height and total leaves of Chili at age 2 wat (weeks after transplanting). Key word: priming technique, disease, water stress, plant resistance

Abstract

ABSTRAKKultur Pucuk Tanaman Nepenthes albomarginata Lobb ex Lindl. secara In Vitro. Kata kunci: Nepenthes albomarginata, tanaman pemakan serangga, kantong semar, kultur pucuk tunas, in vitro

Abstract

The study aims at finding (1) the effect of project-based learning and problem-based learning on student’s creativity and critical thinking and (2) the difference effect of project-based learning and problem-based learning on student’s creativity and critical thinking. This study is quasi experiment using non-equivalent control-group design. Research population of this study was all classes in eleventh grade of mathematics and natural science program of SMA N 1 Temanggung. The participants were 102 students. This study used three classes as research sample which implemented three different kinds of learning models in respiratory system. XI MIPA 3 was as an experimental group implementing project- based learning and XI MIPA 5 was as an experimental group implementing problem- based learning, while XI MIPA 1 was as control group. Data was collected using two instruments to measure student’s creativity and student’s critical thinking. Data was analysed using t- test, multivariate analysis, and univariate analysis. The results reveal that (1) project-based learning and problem-based learning affect student’s creativity and critical thinking; (2) there is a difference effect of project-based learning and problem- based learning on student’s creativity; and (3) there is no difference effect of project-based learning and problem-based learning on student’s critical thinking.

Abstract

Numerous challenges occur in education field require effective solutions to encounter. The aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of guided inquiry model with starter experiment approach in teaching science process skill. This quasi-experimental research employed non-equivalent control group design. A total of 64 students of X MIPA1 and X MIPA5 was selected as the sample. In selecting the sample, the researchers applied cluster random sampling while the data was collected by using test. The data was analyzed using ANCOVA after underwent prerequisite normality and homogeneity tests (α = 0.05). The results showed that the mean of posttest was 79.33%. The improvement of science process skill was 44.88%, compared to the pretest results. The results of ANCOVA revealed that the significance value was of 0.025. This means that the guided inquiry model with starter experiment approach in teaching science process skill of the students is effective.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to investigate the effect of sunlight radiation distribution in canopy on soybean plants biomass at different planting distances. This research was done experimentally using the Block Design. The independent variables were the soybean varieties and planting distance. The varieties used were Baluran, Bromo, and Galunggung and the planting distance used was 15x15 cm2 and 25x25 cm2 as blocks with 10 replications. The dependent variables were sunlight intensity and the plants biomass. The result of the research indicated that after 40 planting days, the sunlight intensity in the canopy, at soybean varieties factors was significant (p<0.05), and the planting distance was significant too. The plant biomass indicated that varieties factors had a significant effect (p<0.05), but the planting distance factors were not significant (p>0.05).

Abstract

This paper analyzes the implementation of socio-scientific issues (SSI) as an alternative in science learning. The content analysis approach is used for mapping implementation of social-scientific problems around the world and is created using the ArcGIS 10.5 program. The findings highlight how the distribution patterns of SSI implementation are dominated by argumentation and decision making in SSI research. Teacher professional development related to SSI implementation also showed positive results for planning, developing, and solving problems related to SSI instruction. This study contributes as literature in exploring the implementation of SSI in educational contexts because its integration in science teaching materials is unfamiliar.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the decision-making style regarding the socio-scientific issue (SSI) of pre-service Biology teachers in four regions of Indonesia as a guide in designing active, varied, and creative learning involving students in each learning session. Data were collected using a questionnaire to 514 participants and analyzed descriptively-quantitatively. The results showed that each student's decision-making style is influenced by cognitive dimensions and processes during learning. Analytical decision-making styles also have a positive effect on gender, grade, region, and university.
