Celuk Village as an icon of the silver industry in Bali has experienced a significant development of spatial patterns. This is influenced by the geographical location of Celuk Village which is an area bordering the suburbs of the City of Denpasar. Because land reserves that can be occupied in the City of Denpasar are decreasing, this triggers physical development to spread towards the outskirts of the city, thus causing the phenomenon called urban sprawl. Due to the expansion of physical development, as well as changes in rural forms, it will certainly affect the form of settlements and changes in their urban patterns. This study uses a deductive-quantitative method through a case study approach. Geospatial data using satellite imagery from Google Earth is processed through ArcGIS software. The results showed that there were changes in traditional settlements due to the addition of new functions and population growth, as well as the presence of non-traditional buildings as a result of the expansion of the village area due to economic growth, diverse community backgrounds, and urban spatial expansion.

Physical design studio (PDS) and live critique sessions are essential elements in design school pedagogy. It enables students to construct their socio-spatial ability through creativity and rationality in a simultaneous way. However, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, all teaching and learning activities must be conducted remotely in a virtual design studio (VDS). Unfortunately, VDS could be a placeless place for the students and significantly affects their overall learning experience. ‘Sense of Place’, or the people-place engagement, is an important concept in the virtual learning context from the cognitive, affective, and conative domain. VDS not merely provide the ‘place’, but should be able to support dynamic social interactions between students and the tutors as well as to conduct pedagogical activities. Without ‘Sense of Place’, the emotional and psychological engagement in creating learning experiences could not be fulfilled. This paper reviews the previous studies that concentrate on the pedagogical method and ‘Sense of Place’ in VDS at a higher education level. There are several strategies for constructing ‘Sense of Place’ in a VDS. Those are humanization, socialization, the presence of a teacher, guiding structure, graphic tools used, and the student contribution during the learning process. Another strategy is to blend both online and classroom that encourages teachings with multiple learning styles. This conceptualization of ‘Sense of Place’ in VDS is beneficial in further research with empirical data.

Evaluation of thermal comfort in the 1st and 2nd-floor reading rooms of Pekalongan City Public Library is to support the aim of designing a comfortable reading room that can increase people's reading interest. This study uses a quantitative approach defined descriptively and evaluatively. Direct measurement data in the morning and afternoon using a thermometer, hygrometer, and anemometer for four days. Data also uses a questionnaire. The collected data compares the measurement analysis results with recommended standards. The result shows that the reading room on the 1st floor was in the threshold and heat-comfort category, which was around 26℃ - 27.4 ℃, while the reading room on the 2nd floor was in the optimal comfortable category, which was around 24.7℃ - 26.4℃. The effective temperature of the 1st-floor reading room is higher than the 2nd floor. The final result shows that the room is in the less comfortable category because the air conditioner in the reading room is not as it should be appropriate.

The sustainability of urban environmental development can be realized with the concept of a Green City or Green City. The application of Green City can be applied by structuring a city's green open space. The existence of green open space in Denpasar City has made the Denpasar City government begin to restore the Lumintang City Park as a solution to urban problems that arise. The government participates in the arrangement of Lumintang City Park so that it can be directed to become a Green City element that focuses more on evaluating green open space, green community, and green energy. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether Denpasar City Park Lumintang has implemented the Green City aspect or not and the changes to Lumintang City Park will be directed towards which direction to address the growth of Denpasar City in the future. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. Data was collected through interviews and observations regarding the evaluation of green open space, green community, and green energy. The results show that based on the application of green city to the three parameters used, the implementation of green open space and green community has been implemented but in its application, it has not been optimal while green energy has not been implemented at all. So it is necessary to have the attitude of the government and the community in the development of this grand city.

The shape grammar can reveal the socio-spatial uniqueness that moulds the geometric shapes and elements of the house facade in a dense area of the urban kampung. The façade tends to not have the exact pattern due to adjustment of daily activities and needs in Tambora Jakarta. However, the grassroots have formed the pattern of events along the alley that represents contexts like milieu, economics, and social conditions. The alley has overlapping layers between private and public activities, which contribute to the geometric shapes and elements of the façade in Tambora. The house facade depicts activities and relationships inside and outside that manifest in geometric shapes and elements of the facade. Hereafter, this research combines the shape grammar for the geometric pattern of the facade and the pattern language for the qualitative contexts. The first step is categorising the geometric shapes and elements of the facade and the socio-spatial aspects into defined shape rules. Then, mapping the pattern language of activities and needs between inside–house program and outside–the use of space along the alley to delineate spatial relation. The result intends to comprehend the correlation between the logic of the geometric shape and facade elements concerning the qualitative context.

The need for housing becomes important, especially for generations Y and Z who are dominating the world's population today. The type of dwelling itself is divided into tread dwelling and vertical dwelling. In determining the type of residence they want, someone always relates it to the criteria they want as well as generations Y and Z. This study aims to determine the preferences of generations Y and Z for the type of tread or vertical residence they want. The research uses a grounded theory approach with qualitative-exploratory methods. Data collection uses a questionnaire that is distributed online and is open-ended from a freely selected sample. The findings show that there are two types of housing that are possible for generations Y and Z, namely residential treads on the outskirts of the city and vertical housing in the city center. The reasons for choosing a residence on the outskirts of the city are: flexibility, convenience, value, environment, livable culture, and security. The reasons for choosing vertical housing in the city center are: location and accessibility, facilities, practicality, atmosphere, and compulsion.

Historic buildings that still survive for a long time can affect the image of an area. To study this, this research identified people's perceptions of historical buildings in the Merdeka Square area of Malang. This study used multiple rating scales measuring instruments and photos of eight historic buildings around the Merdeka Square, Malang City as stimuli to investigate the similarities and differences in perceptions between three groups of respondents: the general public, professionals in the field of Architecture (lecturers and students majoring in Architecture, and members of the Indonesian Architectural Association), and the Government (Bappeda, Culture and Tourism Department, and Malang City DPUPR). The results of this study indicated that the order of the most influential cultural significance factors in shaping the image of the Merdeka Square area of Malang is the intangible value and the visual quality of the facade of the old building. It was also found that there were differences in assessment between groups of respondents in assessing the visual quality of the building facade in its effect on the image of the area.

The third place is a place to unwind, apart from home as the first place and the office as the second place. The third place is one type of public space. Gabusan Art and Tourism Market (PSWG) is a place for art accommodation in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. However, in recent years, the situation of PSWG as a public space has declined and is getting worse. It is necessary to conduct research related to the character of the third place as a public space. This qualitative, grounded theory research method uses primary sources: observations and interviews, and secondary sources: literature studies with the third-place theory from Ray Oldenburg. The research variable is that the third-place functions as a public space, a social space and own good accesibility. The stages of the research process starting from secondary data processing, namely literature studies, then primary data processing, namely observations and interviews of activity actors. The research results show that PSWG as a public space is sufficient, but as a third-place it is lacking in terms of social activities and accessibility
