Abstract

Developing an effective pretreatment for the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to ethanol is an important effort in reducing the cost of this process. Microwave-assisted pretreatment is considered a green technology that can effectively break down lignocellulosic structures. The objective of this study was to investigate the most effective temperature for microwave-assisted oxalic acid pretreatment regarding the structural characteristic changes of oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) fibers. The fibers were subjected to microwave-assisted oxalic acid pretreatment at 160"“200 °C with 2.5 minutes heating time and a liquid to solid ratio of 10. The effectiveness of the pretreatment was determined based on its delignification selectivity, morphological characteristics, and functional group changes. Microwave irradiation of OPEFB fibers at 180 ºC was effective in increasing the cellulose content by 24%. This pretreatment resulted in 1.82 delignification selectivity. More than 50% of the hemicellulose of the OPEFB was removed after this treatment, which was confirmed by a decrease of the absorption bands of functional groups at 1732 cm-1. The increase of pretreatment temperature disrupted the morphological structure of the OPEFB and removed its hemicellulose but did not change its functional groups and lignin content.

Abstract

Our purpose in this article is to characterize the properties of C-Γ-hyperideals in ordered Γ-semihypergroups. As an application of the results of this paper, the corresponding results of ordered semihypergroups can also be obtained by moderate modification.

Abstract

In this paper, we consider a nonlinear integro-vector differential equation of the second order. We establish sufficient conditions that guarantee the global existence and boundedness of solutions of the equation considered. The method of proof involves constructing a suitable Lyapunov functional that gives meaningful results for the problem to be investigated. The result obtained is new and complements that found in the literature. We give an example to verify the result obtained and for illustration purposes. Using MATLAB-Simulink, the behaviors of the orbits of the equation considered are clearly shown.

Abstract

Caprine milk CSN1S2 protein contains bioactive peptides that have a specific function in regulating the metabolic homeostasis mechanism between different organs. However, the safe dosage of goat milk consumption has not been established previously. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safe dosage of caprine CSN1S2 protein from fresh local goat milk using acute and repeated doses (for 4 weeks) in oral toxicity studies on three month old normal Wistar rats. The CSN1S2 protein was isolated from fresh goat milk. This casein protein administered in a single oral gavage dose to 5 rat groups at a daily dose of 0, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 mg/kg BW for acute and 28-day sub-chronic toxicity testing of rats of both sexes. The result showed no evident mortality or abnormal effects. Data analysis of body weight, water and food intake, blood biochemical parameters, clinical observation and organ weight revealed no significant differences between all groups for both sexes. The weights of some organs showed differences between groups, but these values were within the normal weight ranges. The conclusion is that caprine CSN1S2 from fresh milk is safe for food consumption because there was no indication of toxicity, no mortality, and no hematological and clinical chemistry changes.

Abstract

In this study, a quantitative analysis based on the color space coordinates CIE 1931 to determine the color combination from three LEDs (light emitting diode) sources and three laser sources separately, has been investigated. The light sources used in this research were three LEDs that emit blue light, green and red colors, and three laser sources that also emit blue light, green and red colors. Result of color combination from LEDs and laser light sources were detected using a spectrophotometer. The result of the light spectra were then analyzed using a set of color matching function that has been modified specially for the spectrophotometer used. This research produced quantitative analysis for 26 color combinations of LED light sources and 7 color combinations of laser light sources. The results of colors combination were ranging from blue, cyan, yellow, orange, red to purple. Further development is still required to obtain reliable quantitative analysis results.

Abstract

The investigation of landslides applying various methods has been receiving increased attention in recent years. This study was aimed at assessing the estimated distribution of landslide movement using an energy conservation formula in a lumped mass model to obtain velocity and travel distance estimations, in combination with an inverted resistivity model for estimating the Amahusu landslide volume. The research location was in the Amahusu hills of the Nusaniwe subdistrict, Ambon, Indonesia. A survey was carried out using GPS and a geoelectric resistivity method with the Wenner-Schlumberger configuration. The results of the study provide a characterization of this rotational type landslide. The estimated landslide volume was 70,954 m3 and the estimated potential landslide volumewas 50,603 m3. This mass moved 303 m away from the original location, with an estimated maximum velocity of up to 21.25 m/s. The displacement pattern of a landslide mass is primarily controlled by the geometry of the sliding plane. The geometry of the sliding plane causes different types of movement, based on which the possible occurrence of a future landslide can be predicted.

Abstract

Intact monoclonal antibodies with a high molecular weight tend to have a poor pharmacokinetic profile and tumor penetration, and potential for eliciting host antibody responses. F(ab’)2 fragments smaller than intact monoclonal antibodies that still maintain antigen binding could solve this problem. The objective of this study was to optimize the digestion process of nimotuzumab, an anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody, into its F(ab’)2 fragment and investigate its potential as a therapeutic radioimmunoconjugate. Optimal conditions for digestion of nimotuzumab to its F(ab’)2 fragment were found to be 6 hours of digestion time with a pH of 3.5 and 1:100 mol ratio of pepsin to nimotuzumab. The purity of the F(ab’)2-nimotuzumab was confirmed by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analysis. Prior to its labeling with lutetium-177 radionuclide, the nimotuzumab-F(ab’)2 was conjugated to DOTA-PAMAM dendrimer [DOTA denotes 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid, PAMAM denotes poly(amidoamine)] to form conjugate of (DOTA)n-PAMAM-[nimotuzumab-F(ab’)2]. Radiolabeling of DOTA-PAMAM-[nimotuzumab-F(ab’)2] conjugate with 177Lu resulted in (177Lu-DOTA)n-PAMAM-[nimotuzumab-F(ab’)2] with radiochemical purity > 99% after purification with a PD-10 column. Further studies still need to be performed in order to confirm the potential of this radioimmunoconjugate as a radioimmunotherapeutic agent for EGFR overexpressed cancers.

Abstract

HKUST-1 [Cu3(1,3,5-BTC)2] (BTC = 1,3,5-benzene-tri-carboxylate) was synthesized using an electrochemical method and tested for hydrogen storage. The obtained material showed a remarkably higher hydrogen uptake over reported HKUST-1 and reached until 4.75 wt% at room temperature and low pressure up to 1.2 bar. This yield was compared to HKUST-1 obtained from the solvothermal method, which showed a hydrogen uptake of only 1.19 wt%. Enhancement of hydrogen sorption of the electro-synthesized product was due to the more appropriate surface area and pore size, effected by the preferable physical interaction between the hydrogen gasses and the copper ions as unsaturated metal centers in the frameworks of HKUST-1.

Abstract

Let  G be a connected graph with vertex set V(G) and W={w1, w2, ..., wm} ⊆ V(G). A representation of a vertex v âˆˆ V(G) with respect to W is an ordered m-tuple r(v|W)=(d(v,w1),d(v,w2),...,d(v,wm)) where d(v,w) is the distance between vertices v and w. The set W is called a resolving set for G if every vertex of G has a distinct representation with respect to W. A resolving set containing a minimum number of vertices is called a basis for G. The metric dimension of G, denoted by dim (G), is the number of vertices in a basis of G. In general, the comb product and the corona product are non-commutative operations in a graph. However, these operations can be commutative with respect to the metric dimension for some graphs with certain conditions. In this paper, we determine the metric dimension of the generalized comb and corona products of graphs and the necessary and sufficient  conditions of the graphs in order for the comb and corona products to be commutative operations with respect to the metric dimension.

Abstract

An acceptance sampling plan problem based on truncated life tests when the lifetime following a Sushila distribution is considered in this paper. For various acceptance numbers, confidence levels and values of the ratio between fixed experiment time and particular mean lifetime, the minimum sample sizes required to ascertain a specified mean life were found. The operating characteristic function values of the suggested sampling plans and the producer's risk are presented. Some tables are provided and the results are illustrated by an example of a real data set.
