Abstract. Idjen Crater Lake Water containing 600.000 tons of sulfur 1) 4) (compare total Indonesian sulfur reserves of 1 million tons 2) has been investigated as to the possibility of its use as an industrial raw material. Although sulfate can most conveniently be recovered from the dilute acid solution as gypsum, it is advantageously suggested to convert the latter into ammonium sulfate, thus potentially increasing the possibility of fertilizer production in Indonesia. A flowsheet has been proposed. Although processing the Lake Water seems to be feasible front a technological point of view, a possible danger of Idjen Volcano eruption, however small, should not be overlooked. Ichtisar. Air Kawah Idjen jang mengandung 600.000 ton belerang (bandingkan dengan tjadangan Indonesia sebanjak sedjuta ton) telah diselidiki mengenai kemungkinan untuk dipakainja sebagai bahan mentah industri. Meskipun sulfatnja dengan mudah dapat diperoleh dari larutan asam jang entjer itu sebagai gips, telah diusulkan untuk mengolah terus zat achir ini mendjadi ammoniumsulfat (Z.A.), jang merupakan bahan pupuk jang berharga. Walaupun pengolahan Air Kawah Idjen ternjata mungkin sekali dari sudut teknologi, perlu diselidiki pula kemungkinan meletusnja gunung api tsb., meskipun hal itu telah lama tidak terdjadi.

Tepilaut disebelah timur pelabuhan Pandjang, Lampung, Sumatera terdiri dari pasir sepandjang 100 meter dan jang miring lemah kearah laut. Disana terdapat sedjumlah "beach cusps" dengan apex jang berukuran 1,5 m serta jang masing-masing terletak pada djarak 2,5 m. "Beach cusps" tersebut terdapat dimuka pohon-pohon njiur, sehingga penulis mendapat kesan bahwa disana "beach cusps" terutama terbentuk sebagi bajangan kerikil atau "pebble-shadows" dimuka pohon-pohon akibat arus jang kembali kelaut; mungkin terpengaruh pula oleh kekuatan ombak dan kemiringan lereng tepilaut.

1. Studies were done to find out a synthetic defined medium for growing single cells of tobacco. Two kinds of media were tried for these purposes. With several changes in components, the revised medium of LINSMAIER & SKOOG (6) seemed to be good lot suspension and plating cultures of tobacco cells. The medium used by ERARLE & TORREY (3) for cells of Convolvulus also gave the desired results (table 1, plate 3).2. Growth of both callus and single cell cultures occurred on comparable kinetin concentrations.3. These studies (about the relationship between IAA and kinetin) gave no evidence of differentiation of the cell colonies within seven weeks after transferring the cells into the medium (plate 5).

Abstract. Magnitudes and colours on the B, V system are determined for stars in the galactic cluster NGC 6124, based on a photoelectric sequence measured by Koelbloed and an extension of this toward faint stars. The distance of the cluster is about 580 pcs. and the age somewhat more than 108 years. Ichtisar. Magnitudo dan warna dalam sistim B. V daripada bintang2 dalam gugus galaktik NGC 6124 telah ditentukan berdasarkan suatu deret photoelektrik jang diukur oleh Koelbloed dan perluasannja kepada bintang-bintang jang lemah tjahanja. Djarak daripada gugus itu telah ditentukan kira2 580 pc. dan usianja kira2 108 tahun lebih sedikit.

Abstract. Single crystals of 6061 alumunium alloy can be produced by "strain anneal" method from wire of 2mm diameter. With this method 70% of the test specimens grown into single crystals of length of 2.5 cm. Ichtisar. Kristal tunggal dari paduan aluminium 6061 dapat dihasilkan dengan tjara "strain anneal" dari kawat jang berdiameter 2 mm. Dengan tjara ini 70% dari kawat-kawat tersebut tumbuh mendjadi kristal tunggal jang pandjangnja 2,5 cm.

Abstract. The reaction of zinc with methylene blue and thiocyanate is developed to a highly sensitive spectrophotometric determination of zinc in which the unknown zinc is reacted with methylene blue and thicyanate, giving insoluble complex. This is filtered off and the decrease in the amount of zinc present, is measured. Suitable masking agents prevent interference of most common ions, even when present in large amounts, except with cobalt, copper, cadmium and mercury which do not interfere if present in small amounts only. In simplicity, sensitivity and freedom from interference this method compares favorably with dithizone and zincon methods.Ichtisar. Reaksi seng dengan biru metilena dan tiosianat diperkembangkan mendjadi suatu penentuan spektrofotometris jang sangat pekak untuk seng dalam mana seng itu direaksikan dengan biru metilena dan tiosianat dengan menghasilkan suatu kompleks jang tak larut. Kompleks ini disaring dan berkurangnja djumlah seng diukur. Dengan zat penkompleks jang sesuai dapat dihilangkan gangguan dari kebanjakan ion jang umum terdapat walaupun djumlahnja besar, ketjuali untuk Cobalt, tembaga dan raksa, ion2 mana hanja tidak akan mengganggu kalau djumlahnja ketjil. Ditilik dari segi kesederhanaan, kepekaan dan kebebasan dari gangguan tjara ini menguntungkan djika dibandingkan dengan tjara2 detbezon dan zincon.

Ichtisar. Dalam penjelidikan mengenai karakteristik suatu arrester, selain mengetahui karakteristik tembus terhadap tegangan pulsa djuga perlu diselidiki sifat2 tahanan non linearnja (lazim dipergunakan Si C) terhadap pulsa arus menentukan tegangan tinggalnja (Rest spanning). Untuk kepentingan ini dipergunakan pulsa arus 5 x 10 μ sec ataupun 10 x 20 μ sec. Disini akan dibahas mengenai parameter2 rangkaian dan faktor2 jang penting diperhatikan dalam perentjanaan suatu generator pulsa arus. Abstract. In order to obtain the performance characteristic of an arrester, besides knowing the breakdown voltage of its gaps it is also necessary to know the behaviour of the non linear value element (usually Si C) with respect to current surges to get a picture of its rest voltage. For this purpose 5 x 10 μ sec or 10 x 20 μ sec current surges are used. The circuit parameters, and some important factors concerning the design of a current surges generator are discussed here.

Ichtisar. Metode AIEE1 jang lebih dari sepuluh tahun terachir ini dipakai untuk menghitung gangguan kilat pada kawat transmisi, ternjata tidak dapat lagi dipakai untuk kawat transmisi tegangan tinggi (150 Kv atau lebih). Metode ini memberikan hasil jang terlampau rendah. Metode2 jang lain (Teori Gelombang Berdjalan2, Teori Medan3,4 dan Metode Computer Monte Carlo5) telah ditjoba dan memberikan hasil jang lebih memuaskan. Berdasarkan teori2 jang disebut diatas penulis mentjoba menguraikan satu metode analitis jang dapat dipergunakan untuk computer atau dengan pertolongan mistar hitung.Abstract. AIEE method for calculating the lightning outages of transmission lines has been accepted and applied for more than a decade. It is realized that for extra high voltages (150Kv and higher) this method can no longer be applied. It gives too low values compared to observations. Some other methods (Traveling Wave Theory, Field Theory and Monte Carlo Computer Method) have been tried and give more satisfactorily results. Based on the theories mentioned above the writer tries to outline an analytical method that can be applied to either computer or by mean of slide rules.

Abstract. Almost all the stars in a circular area with a radius of about 12 min. of arc, were measured photometrically down to V="13".80 mag., using plates obtained with the Uppsala Schmidt telescope Mt. Stromlo and the Schmidt telescope at Lembang. The photographic measurement generally confirm Enggen's remarkable result that NGC 6383 is a very young cluster, similar to NGC 2264. Groups stars lying on different parts of the colour magnitude diagram NGC 6383, are discussed in connection with Herbig's idea about non-coevalness of stars in stellar cluster. Ichtisar. Hampir semua bintang dalam sebuah daerah bundar dengan djari2 kira2 12 menit busur, telah diukur setjara photometris sampai V = 13.80 magn., dengan menggunakan katja2 potret jang didapatkan dengan teropong Schmidt Uppsala di Observatorium Mt. Stromlo dan teropong Schmidt di Lembang. Kumpulan2 bintang jang terletak pada tempat2 jang berbeda-beda pada diagram warna magnitudo daripada NGC 6383 telah dibahas sehubungan dengan idee Herbig mengenai tidak dilahirkannja bintang2 dalam sebuah gugus bintang pada saat bersamaan.

Ichtisar. Untuk saluran2 transmisi pendek untuk membuat suatu diagram vector jang menjatakan hubungan antara tegangan dan arus daripada udjung awal dan udjung achir, adalah suatu hal jang sederhana. Untuk saluran listrik jang pandjang prosedur ini adalah rumit, karena adanja kapasitansi2 shunt jang didistribusikan. Akan tetapi dengan merubah persamaan2 untuk saluran pandjang, hal ini dapat dilakukan dengan tjara relatif praktis. Untuk maksud itu, bagi tiap besaran dipakailah harga2 per unit berdasarkan tegangan pada udjung achir dan arus beban karakteristik. Suatu lingkaran, sebagai locus daripada tegangan awal sesuai dengan factor daja = 1, djuga diturunkan dari uraian itu. Abstract. For short transmission lines it is a simple matter to construct a vector diagram showing the phase relationships between the sending-end and receiving-end voltages and currents. For an electrically long line the procedure is complicated because of the presence of the distributes shunt capacitances. By transforming the equations of a long line, however, it is possible to accomplish this in a relatively practical way. For that purpose per unit quantities are used with the receiving-end voltage and the surge-impedance-load current taken as basis. A circle as locus of sending-end voltage corresponding to unity sending "“end power factor is also derived from the consideration.
