Abstract

An important aspect of the future of fashion design is eco-fashion. The first aim of this study was to understand how personal attitude affects fashion designers in pursuing eco-fashion design in their work. Secondly, the designer's behavior toward eco-fashion design was investigated. This study applied the theory of reasoned action (TRA) as the foundation for understanding the designers' behavior. A mixed-method two-stage solution was used. Data were collected through qualitative open-ended questions distributed among eight sustainable fashion designers and 98 fashion designers who were selected as the research subjects for a survey. Direct logistic regression and MANOVA were applied for statistical analysis. The model was tested via structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The most important findings of the research were that a positive attitude toward eco-fashion design could predict the designer's intention toward sustainability better than social norms. Further, the participants confirmed that environmental knowledge, perceived quality and price, perceived functional and aesthetic values, and the perceived usefulness of technology in the application of eco-fashion materials affected their attitude towards eco-fashion design. Furthermore, corresponding policies are proposed to facilitate clothing waste minimization in design through the use of eco-fashion materials, which could gain widespread attention and become a new trend in fashion.

Abstract

Integration of technology in education is changing traditional learning methods to satisfy global requirement towards Industrial Revolution (IR) 4.0. Innovative teaching methods help teachers to motivate and engage students in their learning. This study analyzed the application of three-dimensional hologram (3DH) technology for students in primary one, two and three, to find the learning effectiveness of 3D hologram technology in the classroom. Pre-test and post-test designs were adopted according to the primary school syllabus to collect data, which were analyzed statistically using the SPSS software. The results revealed that 3DH technology integration has a great effect that positively enhances the students' learning capacity and attracts their attention. As indicated, 72% of the students had better scores in the post-test compared to the pre-test examination after watching a 3DH animation. The increased scores prove that 3DH technology can positively influence and enhance the knowledge gained during the student learning process. An illustration in the form of a 3D hologram animation was able to grab the students' interest and capture their attention. This paper contributes to the field of education by looking at the adoption of 3DH technology, which could effectively enhance student learning quality at an early stage.

Abstract

This article examines the true significance of nila (blue) in the Malay literature from an ocular point of view. The origins of Malay foundation myths as written in the Malay Annals by Tun Sri Lanang, which contain a detailed description of the ancestry of Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain, Sang Sapurba, his miraculous appearance at Bukit Seguntang and introduces the renowned covenant with Demang Lebar Daun, the ruler of Palembang. This study outlines the appearance of nila in ancient texts (Sri Nila Pahlawan, Sang Nila Utama, Tuan Putri Nila Panjadi). A visual and textual approach was employed to investigate the importance of nila in ancient Malay myths and the determination of its usage in the narratives. Each description was examined and drawn in detail from the aspects of depictions, compared to other texts on the same point and degrees in the Malay world. The aim of this inquiry was to separate the history part from the mythical part and to determine the meaning of the nila designation that occurs in multiple accounts throughout the literature. As a conclusion, according to the usage of nilain the Malay Annals it can be seen as a name to represent the divine or supreme status of the ruling royal family.

Abstract

The painting Le Dejeuner sur l'Herbe (The Luncheon on the Grass) (1863) by the French artist Edouard Manet (1832-1883) received negative comments for the awkward nude and the puzzling narratives in the painting. After much debate, this work is now considered representative of both the artist's oeuvre and of the French modern art movement after the 1850s. While Manet and his fellow Impressionists provided their definition of modern art through their quick brushwork representing speed and light, English art from the same period needs its own definition. A Pre-Raphaelite artist, William Holman Hunt (1827-1910), through the painstaking techniques that characterize the style of the group, presented his version of modern art. In his The Awakening Conscience, a mistress is shown stunned by the sunlight and struggling to wake up her conscience. This paper juxtaposes the two paintings and explores two aspects of the paintings that have rarely been discussed and compared before: modernity and Nature. It was investigated how, in both paintings, Nature (as visualized through the image of greenery) is exploited by modern society and how the bourgeois protagonists relate themselves to Nature. In doing so, this paper provides an interpretation of the cultural and social significance of both art works.

Abstract

The quality of a workspace is influenced by the surrounding environment, called the work environment. A good work environment has a positive influence on comfort and willingness to stay. A comfortable workspace can improve performance and productivity. This study looked at the effect of work environment factors, both physical and non-physical, on someone’s willingness to stay while working in a workspace. This research used qualitative-quantitative methods. Explorative-qualitative methods were used to collect data about the work environment factors. Explanatory quantitative methods were used to see how these work environment factors influence the respondent’s willingness to stay level. Data collection in both stages of the study used an online questionnaire that was distributed freely (non-random sampling). From this study, 11 work environment factors that affect someone’s willingness to stay and intention to move were identified: social interaction, quality of visual interior, natural environment, spaciousness, artificial ventilation, glare, crowd, natural air, facility, air temperature, and humidity. The result of the analysis revealed that there were factors that strongly affect someone’s willingness to stay, factors that weakly affect someone’s willingness to stay, and factors that strongly affect someone’s intention to move.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the sociopolitical critique strategies used by Jan Svankmajer in his films. Figurative language in literature means speaking in an indirect way by using words with a meaning other than their literal meaning. An important part of this study was aimed at establishing the parallels between various modes of figurative language and the films of Svankmajer, which can both be used to indirectly criticize contemporary sociopolitical issues. The research method of this study was based on finding the equivalents of various figurative language modes in filmmaking techniques used by Svankmajer. Thus, figurative language modes were identified using a literature review. The structure of Svankmajer's filmmaking techniques was analyzed and set side by side with figurative language modes by an analytical-comparative approach.

Abstract

This paper presents research results that aid in understanding how photography can become a tool for iterative thinking as a mode of reflection. The research was conducted in three phases. The first consisted of a specific task: after reading assigned materials from different sources, PhD students had to take a photograph as a visual reading-report. In the second phase, all the created images were presented and discussed during class. In the last stage, the students talked about their experience through in-depth interviews. The findings showed that visual awareness linked observation and reflection at the same time, since the students were continually looking for ordinary objects to carry new meanings that were relatable to specific arguments and ideas expressed in the reading materials. Hence, visual awareness is understood in this paper as a mode of visual perception that enables a process of thinking iteratively about a particular topic. The photographic camera was identified as a thinking tool that could be a valuable device to incorporate into educational activities. Finally, in addition to practicing iterative thinking, students expressed feeling engaged and motivated, enjoying this activity, and embracing the challenge.
