Abstract

The aim of the experiment was to study the influence of semen diluter types on the mortality, abnormality and live endurance of local chicken spermatozoa stored at 50C.  The diluter treatments applied were as followed: i) Physiological NaCl (P1), ii) Lactate ringer solution (P2), iii) Dextrose ringer solution. Analysis of variance results showed that the diluters significantly affected (P<0.01) all parameters determined.  The spermatozoa mortality were 81,79% for P1, 76.57 % for P2, and 84.32% for P3.  The spermatozoa abnormalities were 4.08% for P1, 5.2% for P2, and 3.4% for P3.  The spermatozoa live endurance for 4 days were73.28% for P1, 68.98% for P2 and 77.72% for P3.  According to the Least Significant Test, the dextrose ringer solution was found to be the best diluter

Abstract

Research using survey method was carried out at Wonosobo Regency with collected sample size of 87 farmers.Utility function, gross margin (as time function), and regression analyses with degrees function were used. Result of theresearch showed that all of farmers could handle their potato farming risk. Cost and average revenue per hectare could bepredicted by using three degrees polynomial function appropriately. Economics social factor, age, education, numbers offamily, farm experience, land wide and occupied field status significantly affected farmer behavior risk to conduct their potatofarming. The higher the age, the education, the numbers of family, the farm experience, the land wide, and the status, thehigher the farmer bravery to handle the risk. Keywords: Behavior, risk, and efficiency.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted at Rindau Countryside, Province of Central Sulawesi which has elevations about 150 m above sea level. Average daily temperature was about 22 – 290C. The objective of the research was to on condition of Central Sulawesi lowland climate (Palu) through the application og mulch the treatment mulch. The experimental design was 5 x 3 factorials design with 2 factors which were arranged in Randomized Block Design with 3 replications. The first factor was variety which is consisted of KK-Cross, Grand 11, Intani, KS-Cross, Galaxi. The second factor was mulch which is consisted of unmulches, straw mulch, black-silver plastic mulch. There was response of both treatments between variety and mulch on plant growth which it can be see on crop growth rate at age 20 - 40 day after planting. However, there was no response of the two treatments at 50 days after planting. Treatment of straw mulch and black-silver plastic mulch can not increase crop fresh weight. The best of crop fresh weight was KS-Cross variety ( 43 ton ha-1) and unmulch treatment is of 40 ton ha-1. The result was higher than the average result of mean of lowland varieties which was only  about  4 - 31 ton ha-1

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research was to analyze farmer’s knowledge on the procedure to obtain credit from bank and factors related to the farmer’s knowledge. This research used a quantitative method. The data were collected by interviewing and distributing questionnaires to forty banana farmers. Gap analysis and Ordinary Least Square were performed in this study. Procedures to access to finance from banks are farmers must submit a letter of credit application by filling the loan application form provided by the banks, the evaluation of the collateral value or guarantee by the banks, the decision to accept the credit by the banks, and the existence of monthly evaluation activities by the bank to the debtors after the credit disbursement. The results showed that the average score of farmers’ knowledge on the procedure to obtain finance from bank was 0.44. This means that the farmers’ knowledge on the procedure to obtain finance from bank was relatively low. This is due to significant factors related to the procedure, i.e. experience in obtaining finance and information sources. Keywords: Banks, Farmers’ knowledge, procedures to obtained finance,

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to analyze dominant factors affecting community preference on agroforestry development; to determine the commodity priority on agroforestry development; to analyze the financial feasibility of cocoa monoculture and agroforestry farming system; to estimate soil erosion rate on different land use. The research was conducted at the Micro Watershed Model of Toranda, Palolo District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. Social-economic survey of the local community and soil erosion aimed to analyze community perception, financial feasibility of farming systems, and land conversion impact on land degradation caused by erosion. The results of the research showed that the dominant factors affected the community preference on agroforestry development were farming system capitals, financial profit, land suitability, erosion control and land rehabilitation, agribusiness partnership, and farmer institution role. The community preference on prioritiy commodity development was in order of (Tectona grandis), mahoni (Switenia macrophylla), nyatoh (Palaquium sp.), cempaka (Michelia campaka), Ebony (Diospyros celebica), candle nut (Aleurites mollucana), and avocado (Persea americana), respectively.  The cocoa monoculture and agroforestry farming systems are feasible to be developed. The benefit-cost ratio (BCR) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of cocoa monoculture farming systems are 3.01 and 0.35, respectively, and agroforestry farming systems of cocoa are 4.59 and 0.40, respectively. Finally, the soil erosion rate of cocoa monoculture farming systems at 9 % slope and cocoa agroforestry farming systems at 9 % and 38 % slopes are lower than the tolerable soil loss (TSL), whiles the soil erosion of cocoa monoculture farming systems at 38 % slope and bare soil at 5 % slope are higher than the tolerable soil loss (TSL)
