Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The paper exposes the concept of social memory through three perspectives, namely philosophy, history, and social psychology. Social memory is the accumulation of individual memory, and beyond. It means that, social memory has its ontological status which is different to individual memory. Social memory contains both kind of memories of positive events in the past, and the memories of traumatic negative events. In Indonesia, the memory of traumatic events buried deeply. This act will change the social memory concerning traumatic events to social trauma. This kind of trauma will create further crises in Indonesia, e.g. the crises of identity.

Abstract

In the domain of public administration, corruption is one of many problems against which some countries in the world still had to struggle. In the domain of business administration, it is one of the dilemmas that shadows the operation of multinational corporations around the globe. This article analyzes the position taken by Manuel Velasquez in his article “Is Corruption Always Corrupt?”, in which Velasquez tries to avoid “moral absolutism” by evaluating corruption not “from outside”, but “from within” any given culture. The article tells us that “corruption” occurs in the context of “competitive state”, “patrimonial state”, “personalized state”, “neo-patrimonial state”. Finally, this paper concludes with the position that, be apparently very sympathetic as it may, Velasquez’s position cannot solve MNC’s dilemma posed by the very problem of corruption.

Abstract

Men and earth are inseparable unity. The is a dialectical relationship between them. There is no man without earth. Man is not a lord to his environment. The domination of man upon earth is denied. Man is required to give a friendly and respectful attitude to environment. Man is using the environment and maintaining it at the same time. The principle of justice penetrates the relationship old man with his environment. The destruction of the environment is a concern for everybody, institutions and states. The concern is not enough to be shown by conducting a lot of discussion and reflections, but it must be expressed in very real actions: looking at the problem, considering the problem and making solution as well as takin it into action. The philosophical-ethical reflection and critical-ethical evaluation must be based on experience.

Abstract

The question of morality is an old problem in economics enterprise. Karl Marx had exposed that questioning as the main problem in his inquiring of the logic of capitalism. His criticism of capitalism suggested that capitalism had to look for a more human attitude: to be a human capitalism. But that kind if human capitalism cannot be found. Capitalism has created problem of economic justice. While capitalism makes some part of the world more human, another part of the world suffers with hunger and poverty.

Abstract

Post-modernism offers new and unprecedented challenges in the light of morality issues. Some of the big issues faced by post-modern way is how to respond to ambivalence and how to treat “the Other” in a more fair and dignified way. Here, these issues are “answered” by post-modern ethics as articulated by Polish-British thinker, Zygmunt Bauman. Arguably, the role-model of post-modern ethics is an ethic of care since it highlights and prioritizes the act of care and responsibility toward others in a (more) flexible way while at the same time recognizing the differences. Nevertheless, an ethics of care is a sufficient but not necessary response to the moral issues of our times because of some inherent flaws.

Abstract

Dengan cara itu, altruisme mengalami pemurnian oleh akal budi dan memperluas lingkarang etika sampai melingkupi semua makhluk makhluk hidup.KATA KUNCI: Altruisme, altruisme marga, altruisme timbal-balik, Peter Singer, tindakan moralABSTRACT: The debates on altruism as a motivation for moral action has become very popular since the twentieth century. One of them focuses on Peter Singer's thought of positioning altruism as the basis and motivation for moral action. The author of this paper tries to show Peter Singer's contribution in positioning altruism as the basis and motivation of moral action, first by showing the biological basis of moral action. Peter Singer's most important contribution in discussing the theme of altruism as the basis and motivation of moral action is his defense of the human reasoning capacity in transcending the biological foundations of human morality. In that way, altruism undergoes purification by reason and extends the ethical circle until it encompasses all sentient beings.KEY WORDS: Altruism, kin altruism, reciprocal altruism, Peter Singer, moral action

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Hoax and hate speech have become phenomena which often spread in cyberspace, especially in social media. Particularly during the period of political contestation in Indonesia, this has developed into something very alarming. Experience has shown that the polarization and the sharp conflicts which result from it in society have eroded our nation's sense of unity and brotherhood. Moreover, this phenomenon can develop into humanity crisis in Indonesia, humanity that is friendly, tolerant, open, just and civilized towards each other. Modern technology clearly has a big role in engendering this problem, especially information technology that develops super fast. Hoax and hate speech, for example, become easily and quickly widespread because they are made possible by social media and its algorithms. A number of philosophical studies of technology show that modern technology is not just a neutral tool. Modern technology shapes and changes people’s perspectives and ways of life in the world. In addition to the legal approach via the uncompromising application of the ITE (Electronic Information & Transaction) Law, a critical approach to modern technology is needed to protect Indonesia's unity and humanity from the negative potential which accompanies modern technology. KEY WORDS: hoax, hate speech, identity politics, globalization, unity, Indonesian humanity, modern technology, enframing, challenging-forth, technology mediation, technology detox, moralising technology.
