Abstract

The study aims to describe the students’ activity in Mathematics learning through the implementation of aptitude treatment interaction based on cognitive style of grade IX.2 at SMPN 26 Makassar. The study is qualitative research. The subjects of the research are 6 students consist of high ability group of field independent cognitive style, high ability group of field dependent cognitive style, medium ability group of field independent cognitive style, medium ability group of field dependent cognitive style, low ability group of field independent cognitive style and low ability group of field dependent cognitive style. The instruments of the research are: 1) students’ activity observation sheet; 2) learning result test; and 3) interview guidance. The results of the study are 1) the research subject of high ability group of field dependent cognitive style indicates the activities conducted were paying attention to the teacher’s explanation, prefer to ask the teacher, less serious in reading books because more focusing on the teacher’s explanation, working on students’ worksheet cooperatively than individually, prefer to work on evaluation exercise individually, and pleased to present/respond students’ questions well; 2) the research subject of medium ability group of field dependent cognitive style shows the activities conducted were paying attention to the teacher’s explanation seriously, asking the teacher and students, sometimes working on students’ worksheet cooperatively and individually, delighted to work on evaluation exercise individually, presenting and responding students’ questions and learning result well; 3) the research subject of low ability group of field dependent cognitive style reveals the activities conducted were paying attention to the teacher’s explanation seriously in the beginning of learning but paying less attention to the teacher in the end, asking the teacher, delighted to work on students’ worksheet cooperatively, sometimes working on evaluation exercise by relying on students’ ability, and not presenting/responding/asking other students; 4) the research subject of high ability group of field independent cognitive style shows the activities conducted were prefer more on reading books than paying attention on the teacher’s explanation, focusing more on reading books than asking/giving comments to friend/teacher, more comfortable on working on students’ worksheet individually, focusing more and pleased in working evaluation exercise individually as well as presenting and responding students’ learning result well; 5) the research subject of medium ability group of field independent cognitive style reveals the activities conducted were delighted to obtain much information such as paying attention to the teacher’s explanation and reading books, not asking and only giving response on friends, prefer to work on students’ worksheet individually, as well as presenting and responding students’ question and learning result well; and 6) the research subject of low ability group of field independent cognitive style indicates the activities conducted were paying attention to the teacher’s explanation seriously, working on students’ worksheet individually, working on evaluation exercise individually, presenting the task result but not responding to students’ questions well, and asking students’ learning result which had been presented

Abstract

This research aimed to examine the direct influence and the interaction influence among the parenting style, learning style, and achievement motivation on students’ mathematics learning achievement. This research is ex-post facto research. The population of this research was the students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri (MTsN) Makassar consisted of 2 schools. Sample was selected by employing purposive random sampling and obtained 4 classes. Technique of analysis which is used is mixed variables regression technique of analysis. The results of the research reveal that (1) the students’ mathematics learning achievement with authoritarian parenting style has no significant difference on the students’ mathematics learning achievement with authoritative parenting style; however, it is better than the student’ mathematics learning achievement with permissive/indulgent or rejecting/neglecting parenting styles. (2) the students’ mathematics learning achievement with visual learning style has no difference on the students’ mathematic learning achievement with auditory learning style; however it is better the students’ mathematics achievement with kinesthetic learning style. (3) the achievement motivation has positive influence on student mathematics learning achievement, (4) there is no interaction influence of parenting style and students’ learning style on mathematics learning achievement, (5) there is no interaction influence of parenting style and students’ motivation achievement on mathematics learning achievement, (6) there is no interaction influence on students’ learning style and achievement motivation on mathematics learning achievement, (7) there is no interaction influence of parenting style, learning style, and achievement motivation on mathematics learning achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to know are (1) the influence of guided discovery method on students' mathematical communication ability; (2) whether students' mathematical communication skills taught by guided discovery methods are higher than those taught by expository methods; (3) the active activities of students taught by guided discovery methods. Sources of data in this study are students of class VII SMPN 1 Patumbak. Class VII-8 as a class of experiments are 30 people and class VII-6 as a control class are 32 people. Based on the analysis of research data, obtained the following results: (1) the results of analysis and regression obtained that the influence of guided discovery method has a positive effect with correlation coefficient 0.831 and coefficient of determination of 69%; (2) the result of t test analysis with tcount = 4.30 and ttable = 1.67 which means tcount> ttable, Ho is rejected which means mathematical communication ability of students who are taught by guided discovery method higher than students taught by method expository; (3) Based on the average level of students' active activity with guided discovery method at each meeting in phase-1 is 13.33%, phase 2 is 22.9%, phase-3 is 15.52%, phase-4 is 16.01%, phase-5 is 7.2%. This shows that with guided discovery method and ideal time tolerance limit the student's active activity is seen and support the mathematics learning process in the set material. So it can be concluded that guided discovery method affects the students' mathematical communication ability

Abstract

The research is experiment. The research design is One-Group Pretest Posttest Design. The research employed two experiment classes, namely class VII.1 consist of 29 students and class VII.2 consist of 33 students chosen by using simple random sampling technique. Both classes were given the same treatment, namely experience, language, pictorial, symbol, and application in Mathematics learning based on Bruner’s theory. Data collecting techniques were learning result test, observation sheet, and questionnaire sheet. Data analysis employed descriptive statistic, inferential statistic, and effectiveness analysis. The results of the research indicate that: 1) Mathematics learning result of  class VII students at SMPN 29 in Makassar after the implementation of experience, language, pictorial, symbol, and application in Mathematics learning based on Bruner’s theory is in high category, the improvement of Mathematics learning result (gain score) of class VII students at SMPN 29 in Makassar is significant and in high category. Mathematics learning result of class VII students at SMPN 29 in Makassar after the implementation of experience, language, pictorial, symbol, and application in Mathematics learning based on Bruner’s theory has not reached classical completeness; 2) the students activity with the implementation of experience, language, pictorial, symbol, and application in Mathematics learning based on Bruner’s theory is in active category; and 3) the students response toward the implementation of experience, language, pictorial, symbol, and application in Mathematics learning based on Bruner’s theory tended to be in positive category. Learning effectiveness score reveals that the implementation of experience, language, pictorial, symbol, and application is fairly effective in Mathematics learning based on Bruner’s theory to class VII students at SMPN 29 in Makassar

Abstract

The study aims at examining (1) the difference of learning outcomes in class which used problem-based learning model and cooperative learning model of STAD type, (2) the difference of learning outcomes in class which used problem-based learning model and cooperative learning model of STAD type, (3) the comparison of effectiveness of problem-based learning model and cooperative learning model of STAD type with scientific approach. The study is an experimental research with pretest and posstest control group design using the treatment twice and using the instrument: tests of learning outcomes, student activity sheets observation and questionnaire responses of students. The population of the study was students of class X IPA at SMAN 1 Dupamanua in Pinrang district. The samples were two classes, namely class X IPA 2 as the experiment class I using problem-based learning model and class X IPA 3 as the experiment class II using cooperative learning model of STAD type. Samples were selected by employing random sampling technique. Data of the test of learning outcomes were analyzed by employing on-sample test analysis and independent sample test, and questionnaire was analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study revealed the (1) there was significant improvement between the class which used problem-based learning model and cooperative of STAD type indicated by the significant P < 0.05, (2) the learning outcomes used problem-based learning model was higher which was 78 than cooperative learning model of STAD type which was 74. (3) the students gave positive response on the use of problem-based learning model with 17 which gave excellent response and 83% gave good response and 62%  gave good response. The problem-based learning model showed higher result on sequence and series lesson material than cooperative learning model of STAD type

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of applying linear note style and non linear recording style with scientific setting in terms of learning achievement, mathematical communication, and student self-efficacy. The type of research is quasi experimental research with pretet-posttest nonequivalent comparison-group design design. The population in this research is all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 15 Yogyakarta. The samples are class VIIIE and VIIIB as experimental class. Class VIIIE is treated as linear recording style, while class VIIIB is treated with non linear recording style. To test the effectiveness of learning using paired sample t test. To test the difference in effectiveness using MANOVA (multivariate tests). For univariate test using independent sample t-test. The results of this study are: 1) linear note style effective when viewed from learning achievement and mathematical communication, while non linear note style effective when viewed from student achievement and student self-efficacy. 2) There is a difference of effectiveness between linear and non linear recording style in terms of learning achievement, mathematical communication and student self-efficacy. 3) linear note style is more effective when viewed from learning achievement and mathematical communication, while non linear note style more effective if ditinjasu from self-efficacy student

Abstract

The research is experiment which aims to describe Cooperative Learning Model of TAI Type with Contextual-Scientific Approach in Mathematics Learning in Social Arithmetic and Comparison material to class VII Students at SMPN 2 Bontonompo Selatan. The effectiveness description is based on (1) student’s learning results, (2) student’s activities, and (3) student’s response. The populations of the research were all of the students of class VII at SMPN 2 Bontonompo Selatan and the samples were the students of class VII.A as the experiment class taught by using cooperative Learning Model of TAI Type with Contextual-Scientific approach chosen by using simple random sampling technique. The data collection consisted of learning results, student’s activities in learning, and student’s responses on learning devices. Instrument used are test of learning results, observation sheets of student’s activities in learning and questionnaires of student’s responses on learning devices. The data of the students’ activities were analyzed by using descriptive analysis while the data of mathematics learning results and students’ responses were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential analysis. The results of descriptive and inferential analysis reveal that the implementation of Cooperative Learning Model of TAI Type with Contextual-Scientific approach is effective to be implemented in mathematics learning in social arithmetic and Comparison material to class VII students at SMPN 2 Bontonompo Selatan based on the aspect: (a) the average score of Mathematics learning results in posttest is bigger than 69.9 (Minimum Completeness Criteria= 70) which is 79.9 in High category, the average score of normalized gain is bigger than 0.29 (medium category) which is 0.73 in High classification category, and the proportion of the students’ learning completeness is more than 84%; (b) the average score of student’s learning activities from the first until the fifth meeting are more than 2.49 (minimum fairly active category) which is 3.15 in fairly active category, and (c) the average score of students’ response is bigger than 2.49 (minimum tend to be positive category) which is 3.64 in positive category. The conclusion of the research is Cooperative Learning Model of TAI Type with Contextual-Scientific approach is effective to be implemented in mathematics learning in Social arithmetic and Comparison material to class VII students at SMPN 2 Bontonompo Selatan in Gowa District.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah, 1) untuk mengetahui deskripsi minat belajar matematika pada siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri Rantepao, 2) untuk mengetahui hasil belajar matematika siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri di Kota Rantepao yang diajar dengan model discovery learning 3) untuk mengetahui hasil belajar matematika siswa kelas VII SMP negeri di Kota Rantepao yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperiment.  Pengumpulan data hasil penelitian menggunakan instrumen tes berupa pilihan ganda setelah diajar dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran discovery learning  untuk kelas eksperimen dan model pembelajaran langsung untuk kelas pembanding. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh yaitu: 1)  hasil  belajar matematika siswa kelas perlakuan  yang diajar menggunakan model pembelajaran discovery learning  berada pada kategori sedang; 2) hasil  belajar matematika siswa kelas pembanding  yang diajar menggunakan model pembelajaran langsung juga berada pada kategori sedang; 3) tidak ada pengaruh interaksi antara model pembelajaran dengan minat belajar pada siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri di Kota Rantepao; 4) hasil belajar matematika siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran discovery learning lebih tinggi dari pada hasil belajar matematika siswa yang diajar dengan model pembelajaran langsung; 5) hasil belajar matematika siswa yang memiliki minat belajar tinggi lebih tinggi daripada hasil belajar matematika siswa yang memiliki minat belajar rendah. Kata kunci: Model pembelajaran, hasil belajar matematika

Abstract

This type of research is a classroom action which aims to improve students' skills in solving word problems through the use of media cards and posters for the classroom IV.A SD Inpres Perumnas I Makassar. The research was conducted at SD Inpres Perumnas I Makassar. The study population was IV.A graders semester of academic year 2012/2013. This data was obtained through observation, and achievement test each end of the cycle. Data analysis is a quantitative and qualitative analysis. The purpose of this study is: (i) to assess the implementation process of learning with the use of media cards and posters in solving word problems in class SD Inpres Perumnas I Makassar; (ii) to improve the ability to solve word problems through the use of media cards and posters in elementary grade students SD Inpres Perumnas I Makassar. The results showed that (i) the use of media cards and posters in solving word problems can improve student learning outcomes, (ii) Students' motivation in solving word problems has increased. This is evident from the achievement of the indicators of success in solving word problems. The improvement can be seen from the average value of an evaluation test on the first cycle of 61.14 and the second cycle increased to 75

Abstract

This research is a research and development which aims The purpose of this research to develop and produce package in learning Geometry which is valid, practical, and effective. The desired product in this study is a valid, practical, and effective Geometry learning package, which consisted of 8 components, namely (1) RPP; (2) textbook; (3) worksheet; (4) test of the package; (5) observation sheet of students’ activities; (6) the observation sheet of the implementation of learning package; (7) the questionnaire of students’ responses, and; (8) validation sheet. The process of learnig package development used modification of 4-D model from Thiagarajan. The tryout was conducted at SMAN 4 Pinrang in Pinrang district to grade X MIA.2. students. The result obtained from the tryout is a valid, practical, and effective Geometry learning package. As the implications of the study, it is recommended that: (1) the Mathematics teachers should apply this package in learning Geometry, (2) for further development, teachers are expected to develop their own learning package (RPP, textbook, worksheets, and achievement test) adjusted to problem-based learning by employing scientific approach, so students will be motivated more and able to construct their own ideas/knowledge based on curriculum 2013
