Abstract

Dental and oral health can directly affect the quality of life, and is a serious problem in Indonesia, especially in children. Based on the results of the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018, 54% of children aged 5-9 years and 41.4% of children aged 10-14 years experienced dental caries. Dental and oral health is influenced by children's behavior which includes knowledge, attitudes, and actions. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of providing information through animated film media on improving dental and oral health behavior in students of SDN Kedondong, Sokaraja, Banyumas. Methods: This type of research is a pre-experimental design one group pretest- posttest by comparing behavioral values which include components of knowledge, attitudes and actions about dental and oral health before and after giving information through animated films, measuring the number of caries using the DMF-T/def-index. t, as well as the severity of dental caries that were not treated using the PUFA/PUFA index. The research population was students of SDN Kedondong while the number of samples was 60 people who were taken purposively by considering the inclusion-exclusion criteria. Data was collected using pre-test and post-test questionnaires and measurements of DMF-T, def-t, and PUFA/PUFA indexes. Data analysis used was non-parametric comparative Wilcoxon signed rank test because the data were not normally distributed. Results: This study showed that there was a significant difference (p<0.05). Dental and oral health behavior between before and after being given information through animated films to students at SDN Kedondong, Sokaraja, Banyumas effective in improving dental and oral health behavior in students of SDN Kedondong, Sokaraja District, Banyumas Regency.

Abstract

The International Classification of Disease (ICD-10) is a disease classification system by giving an alphabetical code and a number. ICD-10 is used, among other things, for the purposes of reporting and insurance claims at health service both primary health centers or clinics and hospitals as well as secondary service places. Currently, almost all Indonesian people have participated in health insurance. Health insurance applies ICD-10 for claim processing. Therefore, dentists must recognize the disease code based on the ICD-10. Neither dentist education nor professional colleges have introduced disease codes according to the ICD-10. This paper aims to provide information and explain how to classify oral diseases based on ICD-10. ICD-10 is a disease classification that is arranged based on a disease categorization system whose organization is in accordance with the criteria determined by the Word Health Organization (WHO). ICD-10 is used to translate disease diagnoses into numeric codes with the aim of making systematic and analytical records so that easy to store, search and re-analyze. The dentist profession association collegiums need to list the codes for dental and oral diseases according to ICD-10 and socialize it to members so that there is a common perception in writing ICD-10 codes.

Abstract

Increasing amount of vascular reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a key role in the pathogenesis of almost all stages of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, myocardial infartion, etc. This paper aimed to present a brief review of the important vascular sources of ROS. Vascular ROS is mainly produced by enzymatic sources in the vascular cells, i.e. phagocytic inflammatory cells (neutrophils, monocytes/macrophages), and nonphagocytic cells (endothelium, smooth muscle cell and fibroblast). Enzymatic sources of vascular ROS are NADPH oxidase, xanthine oxidase, eNOS, lipoxygenase, cyclooxygenase, and mitochondrial electron transport. In conclusion, over production of ROS induce oxidative burst and will be detrimental for cardiovascular health. A better understanding of ROS would be worwhile for developing method for preventing CVD based on ROS inhibition.

Abstract

Burn therapy involves elimination of causative factors and symptomatic therapy. Kenitu leaves (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) are known to contain β-amylin acetate, Gallic acid, ursolic acid, quercetin, β-sitosterol, and other substances that have the potential to be antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory. The use of kenitu leaves (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) as an alternative to wound healing has low side effects and is easy to obtain, especially in Jember Regency. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of kenitu leaves (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) leaf extract gel on re-epithelialization in buccal mucosal burns of wistar rats. This type of research is experimental laboratories. This research used 32 samples which divided into four control groups and four treatment groups. Burns are made on the left buccal mucosa. In the control group the CMC placebo gel was given and the treatment group was given 2% leaf extract gel. Euthanasia was performed on days 4, 7, 10, and 13 then histological preparations were made. Measurement using software optilab viewer 2.2 and image raster 3.0. The average yield of epithelial thickness was lowest in the control group on day 4 and highest in the treatment group on day 13. The results of the One Way Anova statistical test showed a significant difference in epithelial thickness between the control group and the treatment group. This study proved that the 2% leaf extract can accelerate the process of reepithelialization in the healing of wistar mucosal mucosal burns.

Abstract

Patients in the elderly group have a higher risk for dental and oral health problems because in old age, caries and periodontal tissue are generally more severe and progressive. The aging process causes changes in the structure and appearance of the teeth, the oral mucosa, the decline in function salivary glands, and loss of bone minerals through bone matrix resorption. The occurrence of bone matrix resorption results in the elderly group more often experiencing tooth loss which can be exacerbated by the occurrence of periodontal disease. After tooth extraction, this condition needs to be considered by dentist so that the denture made later has good retention and stabilization and remains comfortable for the patient to use. The aim was providing an overview regarding the procedure of extraction teeth with the change of bone matrix as a preparation for the prosthodontic complete dentures treatment. A 56-year-old female patient came to RSGM Unsoed wanted to order complete dentures so that the remaining teeth shoul be extracted. Patient feels discomfort and difficulties when eating and drinking. Intraoral examination, only teeth 16 were left with gingival recession. The patient's alveolar bone condition showst ends to be flat in the edentulous posterior area. The extraction case in elderly patients must be carried out according to the right procedure with minimal trauma so as not to damage the supporting tissue around the tooth and facilitate the process of denture treatment.

Data obtained by taking questionnaires and clinical examinations using OHI-S to determine the oral hygiene status and CPITN to examine the periodontal health status. The result of this study is dental students and non-dental health students has the same level of oral hygiene that is the medium level with lower OHI-S scores for dental students compared to non-dental health students.
