Abstract

The problem of methamphetamine abuse in Indonesia is still very concerning even though the prohibition on consuming narcotics outside of medical indications has been regulated in law. Methamphetamine users are at high risk for tooth decay, tooth decay that often occurs in methamphetamine users is caries and erosion. This is because the abuse of methamphetamine can affect the oral hygiene and saliva quality of the users. Given the high risk of methamphetamine users being exposed to caries and erosion, researchers need to conduct research that aims to determine the prevalence of caries and erosion, as well as describe the characteristics of inmates who use shabushabu narcotics in the Class II-A Penitentiary Office Jember. There are 58 respondents in this study. Caries measurement was carried out using the DMF-T index, erosion measurement was carried out using the Basic Erosive Wear Examination, while the characteristics of the respondents were obtained through a questionnaire sheet. The result is that the prevalence of caries in methamphetamine users is 89.66% with a mean DMF-T score of 7.21 and the prevalence of erosion is 72.41% with a mean erosion score of 5.29. It can be concluded that most users of methamphetamine have caries and erosion problems in their teeth.

Abstract

Ulcer is an open lesion in the oral mucosa which is generally triggered by various causes including trauma, hormonal, infectious agents, nutritional deficiencies, and various other systemic abnormalities. Treatment is needed to prevent secondary infections, reduce inflammation, reduce pain and speed healing. Rosella efficacious to increase endurance, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant. This ability is obtained from flavonoids, tannins, phenols, anthocyanins and saponins. The purpose was to determine the effect of systemic rosella extract on healing time and ulcer diameter and to determine the effective dose of rosella extract on ulcer healing in wistar rats. 20 rats were ulcered on the left buccal by heating the amalgam stopper over the Bunsen fire for 30 seconds and touching for one second then waiting for 48 hours. All groups were condensed with the Vitamin C group (K+), the untreated group (K-) and the treatment group which consisted of 0.17 mg/gBB(P1), 0.33 mg/gBB(P2), and 0.66 mg/gBB(P3). The treatment is done twice a day and the measurement of diameter by placing a plastic filling instrument along the ulcer is then marked and measured with a digital calipers carried out every day until the ulcer heals. Healing time and decrease in ulcer diameter were faster in the treatment group than in the control group. Fastest ulcer healing in roselle extract dose 0.17 mg/gBB. The conclusion described Roselle extract with a dose of 0.17 mg/gBB gives the most effective effect on ulcer healing.

Abstract

Tooth extraction causes prolonged bleeding complications and the body will respond with hemostasis. Currently developing natural medicines to help the process of hemostasis. Red dragon fruit peel, which is generally a waste containing tannins, flavonoids, and saponins to stop bleeding. Purpose was to find out the effect of red dragon fruit peel extract on bleeding time in the tail of Balb-C strain mice. 16 mice samples were adapted for one week. Mice were divided into 2 groups subsquently fasted for 7 hours. The first group as a control (0.5% Na-CMC). The second group was given red dragon fruit peel extract which was divided into three sub-groups at a dose of 0.5 mg / g BW, mg / g BW, and 1.5 mg / g BW. All samples were waited for 45 minutes and cut along 2 cm from the tip of the tail. Blood is spilled on Whatman paper which has 30 seconds in each box. The number of blood spots on the box was calculated and multiplied by 30 seconds. The result showed that bleeding time in the group given red dragon fruit peel extract was significantly lower (p <0.05) than in the control group. The conclusion was red dragon fruit peel extract (Hylocereus Polyrhizus) has an effect on shortening the bleeding time in cutting the tail of bulb-c strain mice and the dose of red dragon fruit peel extract (Hylocereus Polyrhizus) which has the most significant effect is 1 mg / BB mice.

Abstract

Periodontitis causes destruction of tooth attachment to bone and may predispose to systemic disease. Diabetes mellitus is a risk factor for periodontal disease, these two diseases are correlated; periodontal disease can be favored by bacterial infection caused by an alteration of the immune system because of diabetes mellitus as well as chronic inflammation caused by periodontal disease leads to poor glycemic control in these patients. Case report: A 56 years old female complaining of mobility at anterior teeth. Intra oral examination was found oral hygiene tends to be poor, 11th grade 2 luxation, 6,5 mm clinical loss attachment, 3,5 mm gingival recession, and 3 mm probing depth. She had been diagnosed diabetes mellitus and 2 years ago and has medical treatment for this diseases. The therapy provided is in the form of education, scaling, and splinting wire. Discussion: Diabetes mellitus is associated with periodontal ligament destruction which subsequently can lead to tooth loss. Gingival crevicular fluids and saliva have higher concentrations of inflammatory mediators including different types of cytokines among diabetic patients with periodontitis as compared to non-diabetic individuals with periodontal disease. Conclusion: Chronic periodontitis in patients with diabetes melitus must be monitored periodically both blood glucose levels and plaque control in the oral cavity.

Abstract

The purpose of this literature review is to find out whether hypnosis can be used to reduce pain in patients receiving dental and oral care. Hypnosis has been used to treat acute and chronic pain, anxiety, and other positive benefits before, during and after surgery. However, in the field, the use of hypnosis is still little used and even many who doubt its effectiveness. We reviewed articles in English using keywords: hypnosis, pain, anesthesia, dental, procedure with a time span from 1846 to 2019, with 20 selected articles on google scholars, pubmed, science direct, and the national library portal of the republic of Indonesia (PNRI). , Mesmerism hypnosis and Ericsonian hypnosis have been used for anesthesia for a long time before chemical anesthesia was discovered, the use of chemical anesthesia makes hypnosis no longer used as the main anesthetic in surgery, but in certain cases such as patients with multiple chemical sensitivity or patients with contraindications for general anesthesia, hypnosis still used as the primary anesthetic in surgery, currently hypnosis is widely used in perioperative surgery. The use of hypnosis with chemical anesthetics can increase the benefits and there are no reported side effects. Conclusion: hypnosis can be used as primary anesthesia, especially in certain cases, it needs well-designed research such as randomized control trials on the use of hypnosis with chemical anesthetics, both perioperatively and intraoperatively to obtain clearer and consistent scientific information about hypnosis and chemical anesthetics.

Abstract

Periodontitis is mostly caused by plaque and Pophyromonas gingivalis bacteria as the main cause. The outer membrane layer of the Porphyromonas gingivalis wall produces pathogenic virulence factors, such as lipopolysaccharides which will activate inflammatory cells and cause phagocytosis of antigens thereby triggering free radicals. Robusta coffee beans naturally contain caffeine, phenolic compounds, trigonellin, and chlorogenic acids as antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibition of Robusta (Coffea canephora) coffee bean extract 0.5%; 0.75%; 1%; 1.25%; 1.5% and 3% on the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis in vitro and to find out the lowest concentration of Robusta (Coffea canephora) coffee bean extract which has inhibitory effect on the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis. In this study were divided into 8 treatment groups namely positive control, negative control, 0.5% robusta coffee bean extract, 0.75%, 1%, 1.25%, 1.5% and 3%. Petridish dishes containing TSA media that have been sterilized, added P. gingivalis suspension with density according to Mc standard. Farland Then a sterile white test blank with a diameter of 6 mm that is still sterile is placed on top of the bacterial growth media in accordance with the placement of the treatment group and dropped with all 8 treatment materials. After 24 hours incubated in a desiccator, the inhibition of robusta coffee bean extracts against the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria was observed and data collection was done by measuring the inhibition zone using calipers. The results obtained robusta coffee bean extract at concentrations of 3%, 1.5%, 1.25% and 1%, have an antibacterial power which is suspected because Robusta coffee beans naturally contain ingredients such as caffeine, polyphenols and chlorogenic acids which have antibacterial activity while the robusta coffee bean extract with a concentration of 0.5% and 0.75% does not have antibacterial power against Pophyromonas gingivalis. Robusta coffee bean extract with a concentration of 1% is the smallest concentration of Robusta (Coffea canephora) coffee bean extract which can inhibit the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis.
