Abstract

The fisheries sector plays a vital role in developing and providing business and employment opportunities to support the community and regional economy. Kekar tilapia is one of the freshwater fish farming commodities in the fisheries business sector and relatively new tilapia variety with the advantages of a thick (stocky) and a more comprehensive body shape with a smaller head than others tilapia. This case study aimed to determine the income and feasibility of kekar tilapia farming in the South Konawe Regency, explicitly studying the UKM Empang Sari (Small and Medium Enterprise/SME of Empang Sari). Research variables included cost components (fixed and variable costs) and revenue components (production and selling price). The data were analyzed using income and business feasibility analyses. The study results reveal that tilapia fish farming in South Konawe Regency is profitable and feasible, with IDR 4.355.000 per production cycle or IDR 13.066.000 per year with an R/C ratio of 1.6. Hence, it is suggested that UKM Empang Sari increase the kekar tilapia cultivation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of household food security in coastal communities. The research was carried out in 2020 in Lantagi Village, Kulisusu District, North Buton Regency. Samples were taken by simple random sampling with a total sample of 35 people. The data analysis used is descriptive quantitative and analysis of food security status using the household food security module developed by the United States Development of Agriculture. The results showed that the level of household food security status of coastal communities was low. This is because most of the fishermen in the research location are classified as poor, and their source of income only relies on fishing activities. Where fishing activities in the sea are also very dependent on traditional fishing gear, sea conditions, waves, weather/seasons. The steps usually taken by fishermen when facing low-income situations so that household food availability remains adequate are buying cheaper food, reducing food consumption, and sometimes borrowing money from family or neighbors.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of fertilizer delivered to farmers in Baruga Village, Kendari City, with a subsidy. To evaluate the point, the five principles (5T) are used: the appropriate place, the appropriate type, the appropriate quantity, the appropriate time, and the reasonable price. Information was gathered from 24 farmers who received government-subsidized fertilizer through a questionnaire. The sample size is determined by simple random sampling, 10% of the number of farmers receiving subsidized fertilizer, or 240 farms. The percentage of correct responses for each of the five principles was calculated to examine the data. In Kelurahan Baru, Kendari City, the effectiveness of subsidized fertilizer delivery was judged to be 67.50 percent. Baruga was chosen as the research site because it received the most subsidized fertilizers at the district/city level in Southeast Sulawesi.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to assess the competitiveness of sorghum cultivation in the East Kolaka Regency. The research was carried out in Lamunde Village, Tinondo District, East Kolaka Regency, in August 2021. Sorghum farmers made up the research population, which totaled 25 persons. The research sample was chosen using the census approach, which samples the total research population. Primary and secondary data were employed as kinds and sources of information. Direct interviewing, observation, and literature review were used to gather research data. Some research factors include revenues, expenses, output, private pricing, and societal prices. The Policy Analysis Matrix technique was used to assess the competitiveness of sorghum growth. The findings revealed that sorghum farming was competitive at both the personal and social price levels, as evidenced by the value of the Private Cost Ratio of 0.16 and the value of the Domestic Resource Cost Ratio of 0.11. Because, according to research, the selling price of sorghum in the international market is much higher than the prevailing price at the farmer level, there is a need for government intervention related to increasing the selling price of sorghum at the farmer level and supported by policies that can increase production efficiency.
