Abstract

Electrical energy has become a basic need of modern society, but the supply of electricity has not yet fully met the needs of the community. Many potential energy sources can be converted into electrical energy. One potential of energy sources is water flow which can be used for micro-hydro power plants in remote areas. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the Archimedes screw turbine of micro-hydro power plant, in particular concerning on variations in the elevation angle of the turbine. Characteristics determination was carried out on a prototype of a micro-hydro power plant using a Brush Less Direct Current (BLDC) generator and two blades of Archimedes screw turbine. The varied turbine elevation-angle was applied, namely 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40o, with a water discharge of 2.64 L/s. The results show that an increase in the turbine elevation angle from 20 to 40o causes an enhancement in mechanical characteristics, i.e. torque and rpm, as well as electrical characteristics, i.e. voltage, current, and electric power. The mechanical and electrical characteristics reach a maximum value at the elevation angle of about 30o, which is 27.87 mW at 1 k O load. Furthermore, increasing the elevation angle to become more than 30o causes a decrease in mechanical and electrical characteristics.

Abstract

Research to model coal deposits in the Bentarsari Basin area of Salem District in Brebes Regency has been done using the geoelectric-resistivity method with Wenner configuration. Resistivity data acquisition is carried out on five tracks, with each track has a length of 200 m. The least squares inversion method is applied to obtain a 2D-resistivity section model. Furthermore, the 2D-resistivity section model data for each line is combined into a 3D model to determine the coal deposit model in the area. The results of the interpretation indicate that the subsurface structure of the area consists of clay, sandy clay, coal, and sandstone; where the type of coal is lignite. This coal deposit has resistivity values with interval of 86.1 – 219.0 0m, which is distributed evenly with depth of 0.0 – 26.5 m, where the southern part of the all track has a higher potential. This research can be followed up with log drill testing to determine the actual subsurface layer, so that it can be utilized as a very economical alternative energy.

Abstract

A prototype of Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) based TiO2 nanoparticles and mulberry (morrus) extract as dye sensitizer on the ITO glass substrate has been produced. The study aims to determine the difference between the use of gel electrolyte and liquid electrolyte on its influence on DSSC performance. Sandwich cells were made consisting of a working electrode in the form of a conductive glass ITO deposited with TiO2 which was sensitized by a dye of mulberry extract, the opposite electrode in the form of a conductive glass ITO with carbon deposited, and the electrolyte in the middle of the two electrodes were liquid and one was gel. Irradiation was carried out on both samples by lighting halogen lamps. Tested the characteristics of voltage-time and current-time in both samples. The results obtained for higher voltage and current values in samples with liquid electrolytes, but for the period of stability the samples with gel electrolytes showed better performance.

Abstract

The evaluation and analysis of uncertainty measurement of sound level meter calibration by coupler method was carried out by Research Group for Acoustics and Vibration – National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN). The aims of this work is to evaluate and analyze the uncertainty measurement of sound level meter (SLM) calibration using the coupler method, where it is focused for A-frequency weighting as main parameter based on Guide to the expressions of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM). The uncertainty budgets that obtained of this work consists of a repeated measurement of sound level meter test using the multifunction acoustic calibrator as the reference instrument, readability of SLM, sound pressure level calibration of the reference along with drift of the standard, sound pressure response, the level of accuracy, the total harmonic distortion with noise, and the capability of the used insulation box to insulate background noise from outside. From the result of case study, the standard instrument withal its sound pressure response and level of accuracy has the highest contribution to provide the significant evaluation of the expanded uncertainty at the frequency of 8000 Hz that put of the values are 0,17 dB and 0,14 dB respectively. After that, the obtained expanded uncertainty reach up to 0,48 dB of this frequency. In addition, this result also state that the proposed expanded uncertainty values are below to the maximum of acceptance values that required by IEC 61672-1:2013. Thus, it is acceptable and is considered to be applicated further for the calibration of sound level meter, and other the utilized microphone instruments.

Abstract

Tritis is a hamlet in Kulon Progo Regency, located in an area with steep slope topography making it vulnerable to landslides. Ground movement vulnerability due to earthquakes is controlled by several factors, one of which is the seismic vulnerability index whose value can be obtained through microtremor measurements by H/V analysis. In addition, the dynamic trigger factor for landslides is the slope. The slope of the surface is not always the same as the slope of the slip surface because it is observed from the surface, while the slip surface is under the soil layer and requires measurements using the geophysical method to determine the surface model. For this reason, an analysis is needed to compare the landslide vulnerability between these two factors, the slope of the surface and the slope of the slip surface. From the measurement results, there is a significant difference between the slope and the slope of the slip surface at the same site in the north of the slope by 15.17 with a seismic vulnerability index (kg) of 2.5. The distribution of seismic vulnerability index in all slopes ranges from 0.075 to 7.33, dominated by areas with slopes > 18. High landslide vulnerability is in the southern and northern areas.

Abstract

Research on Mg as biodegradable materials in orthopedics has been carry out intensively in the 17 years. Various studies conducted to produce material that is superior in mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. One of the developments carry out is to make Mg-based composite. This study aims to see the effect of HAp on Mg6ZnHAp composites. The biocomposites were synthesized by mixing the HAp powder on the Mg6Zn powder mixture with the composition of 5%, 7% and 9% using ball milling for 30 minutes. The material is sintered at 350 oC and held for one hour. Biocomposites were characterized by SEM/EDS, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Potentiostat. The SEM/EDS results showed that the larger the HAp composition resulted in the smaller grain size. The crystallite size of the material decreases with increasing HAp composition in the material. The presence of HAp in the material also affects the corrosion rate. The greater HAp composition in the material will result in better corrosion resistance.

Abstract

The tectonic setting of Aceh is very interesting to be studied. Despite many researches of Aceh’s tectonic setting, still there are many hidden faults waiting to be studied. One of them is Lokop-Kutacane fault which becomes active in 2020. There is an increase in frequency of earthquakes in Lokop-Kutacane fault. Magnitude-fault length analysis indicates that maximum magnitude of Lokop-Kutacane fault is M7,6 but historically it only had M6.8 in the past. CDF and PDF analysis show that the highest probability of earthquake magnitude is between 3 to 4 at 28.9%. Focal mechanism also gives two nodal planes with the direction of strike of 62 and 153. The distribution of earthquakes trend fits the 153 strike nodal plane with the direction of Northwest-Southeast. The calculation of b-value gives 0.78 that indicate that the fault is not able to hold a large amount of stress or the stress will be released in form of small to moderate earthquakes.

Abstract

Neurons in the human brain are interconnected and influence each other. Signal integration in brain is determined by the size and the fast synapses response kinetics. This research aims to study the effect of synaptic cleft distance on signaling through a diffusion process using the Monte Carlo Cell simulation program. This research is important to investigate the diffusion process in the body related to the effect of diffusion on signaling if the cleft, area, and concentration are varied. MCell is a probabilistic simulation which a solution of a problem is given based on the probability calculation process. This study uses modeling 3 spherical compartments representing pre-synapses, post-synapses, and neurons as the outer boundary of synapses and as a cleft between pre-synapses and post-synapses. The simulation results showed that the effect of change in the cleft distance on molecular distribution was 98,86%. The narrower size of the cleft distance causes faster molecular distribution. The broader the receptor area (6;12;18;24) causes the molecules to be distributed to increase ((1661;2173;2249;2264)moles). An increase in the amount of concentration (2000;4000;6000;8000) also makes the diffusion rate faster ((1380;2806.25;4203.75;5565)moles/s). The faster the diffusion rate indicates that the signaling process is getting faster.

Abstract

His experiment aims to determine whether the reading of the infrared thermometer depends on the distance or angle of the incident ray, know the calibration and validation of the infrared thermometer and determine the temperature as a function of position and time for 1-D and 2-D objects and analyze the measurement results. The first experiment was carried out on objects with different areas, namely walls and small aluminum slabs with a size of 3.8cm x 3.8cm. The second experiment was also conducted on different objects, namely water with a temperature of 30oC and 60oC, which was measured at the same temperature using an infrared thermometer and an alcohol thermometer. The third experiment was carried out on 1D objects with 2 different types of materials and one type of 2D material. From the results of the experiment it can be concluded several things, for experiment one obtained differences in the reading of the thermometer at various angles and distances for object 2 (small plates), while for objects with large areas such as thermometer reading walls remain the same for different distances and angles. The thermal conductivity coefficient of aluminum is greater than iron.

Abstract

Pulau Lombok berada di antara dua lempeng besar yaitu lempeng Asia dan lempeng Australia sehingga Pulau Lombok sangat rawan akan terjadi guncangan gempa bumi dan pergeseran tanah. Faktor yang mempengaruhi niai percepatan tanah maksimum yaitu kondisi geologi dan karakteristik wilayah tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis nilai percepatan tanah maksimum menggunakan rumus empiris Donovan, Mc. Guirre, dan M. V. Mickey di Pulau Lombok.Data yang digunakan yaitu data sekunder gempa bumi Lombok dari Juli – September 2018 dan dianalisis menggunaakan rumusan Donovan, Guirre, dan Mickey. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa nilai percepatan tanah maksimum paling tinggi sebesar 0.11191 gal yang terjadi didaerah Lombok Utara, dan daerah Lombok Utara termasuk kategori mengalami kerusakan berat. Nilai percepatan tanah masimum terkecil terjadi didearah Lombok Tengah dengan besar 0.03441 gal dan termasuk kategori sangat ringan. Dari ketiga rumusan, yang mendekati nilai percepatan tanah maksimum berdasarkan peta Shakemap yaitu rumusan Guirre.
