Abstract

This study examines the construction of gender identity in online media coverage, focusing on the issue of body shaming directed at female athletes. The case of Indonesian weightlifter Nurul Akmal, who experienced body shaming after her participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is analysed using Alan McKee’s text analysis method, a descriptive qualitative approach, and a constructivist paradigm. News articles from eight prominent Indonesian online media outlets — CNNIndonesia.com, Kompas.com, Tempo.co, Detik.com, Republika.co.id, Liputan6.com, and Okezone.com — were selected as the primary data sources. The findings reveal that online media frequently frame negative commentary on female athletes' physical appearance as innocuous humour or mere jest. Furthermore, the portrayal of female athletes as passive or powerless reinforces their subordinate status within the patriarchal structure, limiting their ability to resist or challenge such derogatory narratives. This media construction not only perpetuates gender stereotypes but also undermines efforts to promote gender equality within the realm of sports. The study highlights the need for more critical and gender-sensitive reporting practices to counteract these harmful representations.

Abstract

This study investigates the prevalence of online gambling and its significant impact on individuals, with many falling victims to its addictive nature. A cross-sectional study design was employed, focusing on a population of active online gambling players. The sample was selected using probability sampling, and the sample size was calculated using an indicator formula multiplied by five observations, resulting in 135 respondents. Data analysis involved descriptive statistical methods and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to explore the relationships among variables. The findings highlight those psychological factors, such as stress and impulsiveness, significantly influence the intensity of online gambling behavior. Furthermore, emotional intelligence was identified as a critical mediator, moderating the link between psychological factors and gambling intensity. Individuals with higher emotional intelligence demonstrated better control over their gambling habits, even when exposed to adverse psychological conditions. These results underscore the complex interplay between psychological well-being and emotional regulation in shaping gambling behavior. The study emphasizes the need for targeted interventions, such as emotional intelligence training, to mitigate the negative impact of psychological vulnerabilities and reduce the intensity of online gambling. Such strategies could provide valuable tools for addressing the growing issue of online gambling addiction

Abstract

Women have a significant role in ensuring the continuity of teaching and learning activities in both the formal and non-formal sectors, particularly regarding digital literacy challenges in early childhood education (3-6 years old). Especially considering the increased need for digital skills during and after COVID-19. The potential for gadget addiction and abuse that leads to online-based violence encourages the important role of the community in aligning challenges as well as opportunities for digitalization of early childhood education. Aligned with SDGs number 4 concerning quality education. This research seeks for the red thread of the role of women as agents in the development of community-based early learning methods, especially the implementation of digital literacy. Primary data was taken from focus discussion group extraction, curriculum development, and joint monitoring-evaluation on digital literacy, which was held at MI Muhammadiyah Junjung, Tulungagung Regency and Komunitas Harapan on the Johar Market Riverside, Semarang. The concepts of Women in Development and Digital Literacy empowers women to contribute to development, cybersecurity, and children's rights. The results highlight structural issues like poverty and gender inequality as barriers to educational quality across regions, further emphasizing the need for women educators in designing digital literacy programs.

Abstract

Thailand recorded a significant number of human trafficking cases during 2014-2015, leading to its classification as Tier Three (lowest tier) in the United States Department of State Trafficking in Persons Report. This classification subjected Thailand to international pressures. Subsequently, the classification had led the government of Thailand to formulate relevant policies to cope with the trafficking issues in the country. In this case, human trafficking itself is classified a threat to personal security accordingly to the concept of Human Security, which was developed by the UNDP in 1994. This study examines the UNDP 1994 Report’s concept of human security and Ian Hurd's International Organization Theory, focusing on the UNODC’s program from 2014-2017 to address transnational organized crime, particularly human trafficking. The research suggests that the UNODC as an international organization has made interventions as an actor, forum, and resource in promoting human security in Thailand. In this case, UNODC played the roles by assisting the government of Thailand through programs, which aimed to address human security issues, particularly personal security

Abstract

This study is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach that aims to examine the value of environmental education in the novel Jejak Balak by Ayu Werilang (2023). The primary data source is the novel’s text, focusing on environmental phenomena, while secondary sources include journals, books, and previous studies relevant to ecocriticism and environmental education. Data collection techniques involve documentation and note-taking from the novel and other written sources. The data were analyzed using Greg Garrard’s (2004) ecocritical approach, which consists of six main concepts: pollution, wilderness, apocalypse, dwelling, animals, and earth. The research findings indicate that Jejak Balak represents environmental education values through these six aspects in line with Garrard’s theory. The novel highlights issues such as forest conservation, criticism of environmental exploitation and irresponsible corporations, the role of local wisdom in environmental sustainability, the ecological impact of deforestation, animal symbolism in human-nature relationships, and the role of characters as environmental change agents. As an ecologically themed literary work, the novel serves as an educational and reflective medium, emphasizing human responsibility in maintaining ecological balance and raising awareness of environmental issues

Abstract

This paper examines the role of the heritage community of Begandring Soerabaia in the production of public space employing Henri Lefebvre's concept of social space as a theoretical framework. Focusing on the "Parade Oud Soerabaja" photography exhibition held at Balai Pemuda Surabaya, the study explores how historical narratives and archival materials are mobilized to generate immersive, socially meaningful experiences. It argues that Begandring’s initiatives—through cultural programming, community gatherings, and dialogic engagement—actively contribute to the transformation of urban heritage spaces into dynamic sites of memory, identity, and civic interaction. The exhibition is situated within Lefebvre's spatial triad, and this study highlights how Balai Pemuda functions as a living space shaped by historical continuity, cultural exchange, and communal agency. Finally, the paper emphasizes the significance of grassroots heritage activism in reconfiguring public spaces and preserving urban cultural memory

Abstract

An empowerment program can be said to be effective and successful if the beneficiary community is empowered. The women's empowerment approach focuses on women's capacity framework in increasing independence and internal strength. However, empowerment programs are still found that do not target communities with the right needs. BaitulMaalKu as an Amil Zakat institution contributes to empowering women in the fields of sewing and fashion design to increase independence. The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between the level of program effectiveness and the empowerment of women who are beneficiaries of the Empowered Academy program. The number of research respondents was 43 women recipients of the Empowered Academy program who were selected using census techniques. The results of the research show that there is no significant relationship between the level of effectiveness of the empowerment program and the level of empowerment of women who receive the benefits of the Empowered Academy. In general, the level of women's empowerment is not only determined by the level of program effectiveness. Women's empowerment is determined by opportunities for access to credit, doing productive work, and the ability to start a business

Abstract

Stunting remains an alarming problem in Indonesia, with profound implications for human capital development and long-term economic productivity. Despite the national government’s commitment, including Presidential Regulation No. 72/2021, inefficiencies in local budget execution continue to challenge targeted outcomes. This study aimed to track stunting-related budgets in Tuban Regency between 2021 and 2022, with a focus on allocation trends, sectoral involvement, and realization performance across specific and sensitive interventions. Budget allocations for stunting reduction increased sharply from IDR 17.5 billion in 2021 to IDR 51.1 billion in 2022 (a 192% increase), with participating government offices expanding from 4 to 9. The Health Department remained the lead implementer, implementing IDR 17.6 billion in 2022, or 34.5% of the total stunting-related budget with community nutrition services absorbed most of the budget. Meanwhile, the public works spent IDR 10.6 billion for rural water infrastructure, reinforcing the importance of WASH in sensitive interventions. The education sector experienced a threefold increase, yet its share remained under 0.5% of the total. While the environmental sector emphasized infrastructure-based waste management. These findings highlight fiscal expansion yet persistent implementation gaps. It is essential to strengthen budget tagging, intersectoral collaboration, and evidence-based planning to optimize the impact of increased investments in stunting reduction
