Abstract

Southwest Papua Province, part of Indonesia, faces significant developmental challenges, especially extreme poverty influenced by its adherence to customary law. With a poverty rate of 14.2 percent, this research employs problem-solving methods like qualitative and descriptive approaches. The study reveals a collaborative approach to combat extreme poverty in the region, involving various stakeholders and supported by additional contributors. This coalition includes regional authorities, academics, businesses, private individuals, media, communities, and traditional institutions. Further support comes from banks, NGOs, markets, local industries, and small-scale entrepreneurs. Each party has a distinct role: the government oversees, academics provide frameworks, businesses support, communities drive progress, media spreads information, and traditional institutions plan interventions. This multi-stakeholder strategy is crucial in addressing extreme poverty in Southwest Papua Province, harnessing diverse roles for sustainable change.

Abstract

This study aims to pinpoint the elements contributing to social media influencers' (SMIs) popularity and effectiveness in Bangladesh. Additionally, the study aims to determine how these influencers impact consumers' purchasing decisions. The study employs a quantitative research approach, utilizing an online survey questionnaire. The survey involved 208 participants who follow at least one social media influencer on Facebook, selected through a random sampling technique. The study's results highlight that positive reviews and feedback from other followers/consumers are the most potent factors in creating trust towards SMIs. Additionally, the quality of content and SMI's expertise and knowledge in a specific field/topic matter most to create an audience base. Besides, most followers believe that expertise attracts them to SMIs; hence, SMIs should not promote anything they do not know much about, representing their trustworthiness and transparency to the followers. Also, the recommendation of SMIs and these consumer-trust-building characteristics are associated. Brands choose SMIs to convey their message to the targeted audience; the findings also reveal that influencers significantly influence consumers' purchasing decisions through their recommendations, and age is one of the independent variables that is associated with the recommendations of SMIs

Abstract

The evolution of communication technology fuels ongoing introspection among humans, shaping their self-perception and worldview. As reliance on these tools deepens, individuals delve into their existence and the societal constructs that govern their lives, potentially steering the development of communication tech for global betterment. Historically, humans have pondered their role as sources of authority and meaning. Liberal perspectives frame humans as subjective authorities, emphasizing internal experiences to inspire universal meaning. In contrast, Dataists view humans as sources of authority and meaning within collective narratives, highlighting the richness of intersubjective experiences among many individuals in one world. Utilizing advanced communication technology, notably computer algorithms, to interpret collective human narratives, this paper suggests a pathway for enhancing global civilization. It advocates harnessing technology, specifically algorithmic intelligence, to restore a cohesive global identity founded on principles of freedom and equality. Employing phenomenological methods, this research examines human experiences within the realm of communication technology, drawing on humanism, subjectivism, intersubjectivism, and dataism as theoretical frameworks.

Abstract

This paper investigates the country-specific risks associated with inward foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia and analyzes the broader macroeconomic consequences. The study utilizes the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to examine both the short-term and long-term cointegration between macroeconomic factors and foreign investment inflows. The research is based on secondary annual time series data from 1984 to 2015. In the short term, the exchange rate has a crucial impact, as depreciation of the Indonesian Rupiah leads to a higher inflow of FDI. However, while financial variables do not significantly affect the dependent variable in the long term, independent variables such as inflation, GDP growth risk, and economic and political risks do have a considerable effect. Rational foreign investors prioritize maximizing returns on their investments by closely monitoring the volatility of macroeconomic conditions. Thus, it is imperative for the government to regulate these aspects to enhance the inflow of foreign investments.

Abstract

Following the pandemic, there has been a surge in interest in natural tourism as a means to attract travelers. Minggirsari Village, since 2019, has been actively harnessing its natural resources to entice tourists and has emerged as a trailblazing model village in Blitar Regency, successfully preserving and leveraging its natural splendors for tourism. This study endeavors to delineate Minggirsari's marketing communication strategy in promoting its natural destinations, employing the Marketing Communication Mix model. The qualitative case study methodology was employed, involving on-site observations, interviews with tourism managers, and activity documentation to gather and subsequently analyze data, following the Miles and Hubbermen theory's stages of data collection, processing, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Minggirsari Village's Nature Tourism employs a diverse marketing communications mix encompassing personal sales, advertising, promotions, and public relations to augment tourist footfall, encapsulated by the rallying cry "Ayo Dolan Nang Minggirsari" ("Let's Play in Minggirsari"). The integration of natural tourism with Minggirsari's creative economic potential, epitomized by the #ayodolankeminggirsari movement, demonstrates effective management of human resources, promotions, and auxiliary tourism facilities. Future research avenues could focus on gauging the responses of visitors to Minggirsari Village's natural tourism offerings, thereby enriching our understanding of its impact and efficacy.

Abstract

Disaster management addresses gender inequality by mitigating adverse effects on women. Involving women in disaster risk reduction is crucial, but their participation is often insufficient, leading to inadequate attention to their specific needs. In Indonesia, where women make up over half the population, their involvement in disaster management is essential. This study explores women’s disaster risk mitigation strategies and emphasizes gender-responsive disaster management approaches. Following the 2021 Mount Semeru eruption, research in East Java revealed gender-sensitive disaster management deficiencies. Traditional methods often fail to support women and children who are particularly vulnerable. The study highlights the importance of education, training, and gender-sensitive disaster management policies. Using a phenomenological approach, the study conducted direct observations, in-depth interviews, and focus groups. It identified 24 significant obstacles in gender-based disaster management, such as inadequate casualty statistics and the lack of gender-specific infrastructure in refugee camps. The research underscores the need for gender-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) to safeguard women and children's well-being during and after disasters. Enhancing education and capacity-building in vulnerable villages is also crucial for effective disaster mitigation. To improve disaster resilience, it is essential to integrate women into the disaster management framework, acknowledging their specific needs and harnessing their capabilities.

Abstract

This research seeks to elucidate the conflict over PT PHP I's Cultivation Rights Title (HGU), claimed as customary land by some communities in Nagari Kapa. It aims to detail the customary elements that legitimized the 1997 land rights transfer to the West Pasaman Regency government. The issue stems from internal conflicts among Nagari Kapa's customary elites, impacting PT PHP I as the HGU holder. The disputed area encompasses 315 hectares of PT PHP I's land, occupied by the community since 2020. Using ethnographic methods, the study explores community and tribal leaders' (Ninik Mamak) perspectives on customs and land status. Interviews were conducted with 10 groups of tenant farmers on PT PHP I's core HGU land and 5 Ninik Mamak. Findings reveal that land status, under the Babingkah Adat system, is determined by the Pucuk Adat and transferred according to Adat Diisi Limbago Dituang and Siliah Jariah customary requirements. However, some community members oppose this mechanism, occupying land designated as PT PHP I's HGU, and thus, they collectively claim the land as customary territory of the Nagari Kapa community.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a nation where foreign space objects are discovered, holds the right to seek compensation, thereby addressing the country's claims to reinstate pre-damage conditions. Under international regulations, any country launching objects into outer space from its territory or launch facilities assumes responsibility for damages incurred in other nations. This research employs a qualitative legal research methodology, employing both statutory and conceptual approaches. The statutory method scrutinizes laws pertinent to the identified legal concerns. The primary sources encompass the 1967 Treaty on the Principles Governing State Activities in Space Exploration and Utilization, including the Moon and Celestial Bodies, and Indonesia's Law Number 16 of 2002, Gazette Number 34 of 2002, Supplement State Gazette No. 4195. The study's findings highlight that the 1968 Rescue Agreement broadened a state's obligations concerning astronaut rescue, recovery, and repatriation, extending these responsibilities to encompass the return of space objects for exploration purposes. The repatriation of foreign space objects mandates compensation for any damage resulting from the descent of celestial bodies. Therefore, Indonesia, under international legal frameworks, can pursue restitution for damages caused by space objects from other nations, ensuring accountability and restoration of affected conditions.

Abstract

The increase in the threat of crime in the Sulu and Sulawesi Seas in recent years has caused the countries bordering the two seas, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, to agree to form a trilateral cooperation called INDOMALPHI in 2016. The 2017 attack on Marawi City, Philippines, by a group affiliated with an international terrorist network has added to the security vulnerabilities in the Sulawesi and Sulu Seas. Despite being constrained by the COVID-19 pandemic, trilateral cooperation continues with all its limitations, namely through online meetings. Until 2022, through the Ministry of Defense, the three countries will strengthen the trilateral cooperation agreed in Malaysia again. This study uses a maritime insecurity concept framework with a qualitative approach that uses a literature study data collection method consisting of books, journal articles, official ASEAN websites, and online news sites. The results of the study show that there are still threats that cause maritime insecurity, which encourages the strengthening of trilateral cooperation by Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines in 2022 in order to realize maritime security in the Sulu and Sulawesi Sea regions.
