Abstract

This article describes Karen Armstrong’s view on the Muslim fundamentalist movement in modern century. For Armstrong, Islam experienced modernity (particularly in Egypt, Pakistan, and Iran) aggressively. The last movement of Islamic modernization is a movement of fundamentalism. Fundamental-ism is a movement which aspires to the condition of the Islamic past to actually go back to the pure Islam. However, for Armstrong, most of Islamic fundamentalism is radical and extreme. This is caused by the initial modernization in Islam that looks moderate and not passionate which apparently was not satisfactory for Islam itself. In addition, in her analysis, fundamentalism is the impact of imposed secularism in Islam. Although Islamic fundamentalism runs with conservative spirit, the characteristic of their ideology is modern. At least they have been influenced by Western civilization. Muslim fundamentalists have formulated a creative and innovative ideology to make changes.

Abstract

This article tries to analyze the franchise business system of Ayam Bakar Wong Solo Restaurant through the Islamic economics perspective. The franchise business system applied by the Ayam Bakar Wong Solo is a cooperation (shirkah) with the type of shirkah mudârabah, where there is a cooperation between the Ayam Bakar Wong Solo as a manager (mudârib) and investors as owners of capital (sahib al-mâl). Both parties allied in the venture capital and the advantage of the alliance is divided in accordance with the agreements that have been agreed between the two. The Ayam Bakar Wong Solo offers two forms of shirkah mudârabah, namely mudârabah mutlaqah and mudârabah muqayyadah. It is found that there is a correspondence between the execution of the Ayam Bakar Wong Solo franchise and shirkah mudârabah practices in Islamic economics because the franchise system which is run has been suitably qualified and has met the rukn of shirkah mudârabah. However, there is a concept of franchis-ing which is more in line with Islamic economics, namely the principle of sharing in mudârabah and mushârakah as a substitute for a franchise concept with franchise fee and royalty fee.

Abstract

The ‘Abbasid intellectual heyday was a social condition that was built up of cosmopolitanism of Islamic society. Cosmopolitanism means recognizing the diversity of identity, emphasizing the dynamic character of the various groups, and responding the potential for creating new cultural combinations. The ‘Abbasid Dynasty facilitated inter-cultural assimilation process, so that the intellectual tradition developed so rapidly. The intellectual triumph was established because of the cultural hybrid of “friendly” and “unfriendly” cultures that interacted symmetric-ally. Elements of cultural authenticity brought by immigrants experienced universalization and thus recognized by other tribes. One of the ways of the universalization was through the transmission of knowledge in the administration of education in classical educational institutions. The cosmopolitanism of ‘Abbas-id Islamic society made the transmission process conducted in various Islamic educational institutions rich and diverse. In addition, the impact of cultural assimilation adopted by ‘Abbasid society contributed to cultural diffusion, one of which was the transmission of knowledge.

Abstract

This article seeks to know the practice of dhikr ritual in Qâdirîyah wa Naqshabandîyah Tariqa that is practiced by the Jakarta urban society. Furthermore, how the community interpret and understand the values of dhikr in the Tariqa. The results of this study indicate that the practice of dhikr in Qâdirîyah wa Naqshabandîyah Tariqa conducted by some of Jakarta urban society is by combining two techniques of dhikr of Allah, the jahr recitation (orally and with loud voice) and the khafî zikr (with heart and silently). Besides, Jakarta urban society that follow the Qâdirîyah wa Naqshabandîyah Tariqa interpret dhikr with various arguments. The deeper of knowledge had by the followers of the Tariqa, the deeper of interpretation they will have. Adherents of the Tariqa who have higher level of knowledge do not interpret the practice of dhikr only as sensory motivations, but rather spiritual obligations oriented to togetherness and closeness with God.

Abstract

Pamijahan as the conduct of the pilgrimage is a phenomen that deserve to be the field of research. Because in that place there are various of human activities and different cultures, beliefs and expectations of the cultural struggle that became a cultural pilgrimage. Pamijahan a mystical village that has a value that is believed to give karâmah and blessing for the visitors. Blessing is obtained from the pilgrimage performed at the tomb of Shaykh Abdul Muhyi and other tombs at the site. Confidence Pamijahan pilgrims believe that the shrine is the tomb of Shaykh Abdul Muhyi who are considered sacred by many struggles and sacrifices for the religion. Abdul Muhyi struggle to spread Islam and coupled with the value sufistik satariah orders which he got from his teacher. To analyze the motives and goals of pilgrimage Friday Pamijahan author tries to communicate with the theory Tallcot Parsons, the adaptation, goal, integration and latency. The result is there are different motives inter-pilgrims at the funeral Pamijahan. Motifs that can be concluded is the intent or purpose contained in the implementation of the pilgrimage, usually intent was inspired by science or deeds that practiced by the pilgrims, besides other requests.

Abstract

This paper attempts to discuss the process of the fall of the Romanov Dynasty and the rise of the Communist-Bolshevik power as well as the efforts of Muslim nations to liberate their country, Central Asia, from the colonialist occupation of Russia. After the fall of the Rumanov regime, the communist authorities were unable to maintain the territorial integrity that they defeated. The fall of the Romanov Dynasty provided an opportunity for nationalist Muslims to liberate their country in Central Asia. Nationalist Muslims’ independence struggle was initially politically supported by the Bolsheviks who still faced an internal conflict with the non-Bolshevik groups and supporters of the Romanov regime. After successfully defeating their Russian rival, the Bolseheviks withdrew their support and combated Muslim countries that had been independent. The Bolsheviks did have to maintain their power in Central Asia in which they got very significant amounts of foreign exchange, either of natural resources or agricultural products. In addition, Central Asia is a region that can be a place to move the expansion of communism to countries in South Asia and Middle East.

Abstract

This article attempts to examine in depth, based on the theory of kafâ‘ah, different class marriages in the Sasak Muslim community, Lombok. The study concludes that on one hand, the different class marriages between noblewomen and non-noblemen do not have an impact on the purpose of marriage which is to create sakînah, mawaddah, and rahmah household. On the other hand, the marriage that is based on Islamic values is able to realize a happy and harmonious household regardless of social status background. The most important thing in domestic life is communication and trust between husbands and wives. In fiqh munâkah}ât, it is required when someone is looking for a spouse, something that needs to be seen is lineage, beauty, wealth and religion. This article would like to emphasize that there is no prohibition in Islam to marry people of different social class.

Abstract

The following article gives reviews on roles of the Sufi path, ʿAlawîyah Tariqa among ‘Alawîyyîn, to success their diaspora in Gresik regency using the socio-anthropological approach. It observes the ‘Alawîyyîn scholars as a group of migrants who adapt their Sufi path creatively with their new environment. Therefore, they have significant roles to keep their identity as ‘Alawîyyîn diaspora. It is found that rituals practiced by ‘Alawîyyîn in Gresik are reading râtib, h}awl and rawh}ah. In this context, the ritual has found aspects of the  socio-anthropological values, as it involves a series of human creativity that has been shaping the culture, communication, and mobility in the social environment. From our view, the practice of the Sufi path, ‘Alawîyah Tariqa in Gresik, has become moral values that were internalized by its followers, and have been implemented by them as a behavior in the community. These rituals can keep their social-religious authority as ahl al-bayt (the descendants of Prophet Muhammad).

Abstract

This article seeks to know both a Jalin Kesra (people’s welfare) program and an Islamic education quality of poor children as well as a correlation of the program with the quality of Islamic religious education of the poor children in Sendang, Tulungagung. This is a field research with a quantitative paradigm and inferential statistics approach. The findings of this study are; firstly, through people’s welfare program that emphasizes pro-poor growth strategy, by providing livestock, it is expected that the very poor communities in Sendang, Tulungagung as the recipient of this aid can breed their animals and the results can be used to meet their needs (a more proper live and moreover for the fulfillment of the educational needs of their children). Secondly, the average education quality of the children from the very poor communities in Sendang, Tulungagung is low. Thirdly, looking at the value of rxy is 0.663 and is located between 0.60-0.799, so the correlation is classified as “strong”. It concludes that there is a positive correlation between the program of people’s welfare with the quality of Islamic education of the very poor community’s children in Sendang, Tulungagung.

Abstract

This article attempts to analyze how to know maqâsid al-shari‘ah in any statutes of shari‘at with Muhammad Tâhir b. ‘Âshur’s perspective in the book of Maqâsid al-Sharî‘ah al-Islâmîya. This study concludes that the formula of turuq ithbât maqâsid al-shari‘ah in the perspective of Ibn ‘Âshur refers to three ways: first, through istiqrâ’ (inductive), be it istiqrâ’ on the known-rationale laws, or istiqrâ’ to the postulates of the law which has the same substantive rationale (mushtarak fî al-‘illah), in which the existence of the rationale qualify as maqsûd al-Shâri’; second, through the verses of the Quran which has the clarity of the arguments (wâdih al-dilâlah); and third, through the text of Sunnah mutawâtirah, either mutawâtir ‘amalî or mutawâtir ma‘nawî.
