Abstract

The need for up-to-date information systems encourages web server service providers to build systems with high availability. One who needs it is the Online Shop Business and large-scale companies. The technique that can be used is implementing server clustering. Cluster Server is a technology that combines several resources that work together so that it looks as though a single system. Cluster technique that can be used to provide a system with high availability that is failover cluster. In this study, the failover cluster system was built using the VMware provided Vmwares FmFL failover feature. Failover cluster built consists of three physical servers with Vmware ESXi operating system. One server is used as data traffic monitoring and Shared Storage while two servers are used as nodes of the Failover Cluster which will be used to run the Guest OS. Each node in the Failover Cluster will be tested using a System Failure Scenario created based on potential interruptions in the company. Parameters measured in this study are Availability and Network Utilization. The Availability trial results performed using Vmware features called Vmware Fault Tolerance can generate a 94.44% Availability Value for 7 System Failure Scenarios. The Network Utilization value of 13,041.54% was obtained when the failover occurred between nodes in failure scenarios performed in a row. Keywords: Failover Cluster, Availability, and Utilization.

Abstract

Background: Universities need to conduct data searches to graduate. This data can be used in a variety of needs. A media needed to connect between the faculty graduates or graduates with other graduates so that they can be interconnected. But it is constrained because most colleges difficulty in recruiting alumni data despite already done in various media. It is necessary for a more effective alternative media for support in collecting data of graduates. Method: The design of the portal using social network approach. So the first step is to design the parent website Tracer Study focus to accommodate the main data of  graduates who are equipped with an interactive community features. Prototype portal tested and evaluated based on benchmarks dynamic, informative, and communicative, further refined to achieve an increase in visitors in every time data is consistent with the conditions or no distortion. Conclusion: The results of this research is a tracer study portal with social network approach to be one of the alternative media to attract graduates to interact with the media, and also that benefits the institution of data collection becomes more optimal.KEY WORDSPortal, Tracer Study, Social Network, Website, Alumni.

Abstract

Face recognition with various illumination is one of the most important challenges for practical face recognition systems. Under uncontrolled lighting condition is more significant than the physical characteristics of the individual face. The Impact of lighting uncontrolled lighting from the right and left side so that it can affect the face image. There are many studies on face recognition, but only little attention is paid to   face image is an axis-symmetrical objects. Few studies to explore and exploit the axis-symmetrical property of faces for face recognition are conducted. In this paper, we discuss the pre-processing method to solve one of the common problems in face images with lighting variations. We take the axis-symmetrical of faces then a gamma-correction process for pre-processing that will then be done by robust regression classification (RRC). Experimental results on Yale Face Database B 50x50 with illumination problems show that the proposed technique improves recognition accuracy especially in images with extreme lighting conditions using gamma correction parameter γ = 0.3. Keywords :Face Recognition, Symmetrical Face, Gamma Correction, and Various Illumination.

A set questionnaire which asked the learners’ difficulties of learning English was distributed to 180 students from  higher education institutions: IBI Darmajaya, Universitas Bandar Lampung, STKIP PGRI, DCC,UniversitasSaburai and UniversitasParamadinaMandiri.UniversitasTulangBawang. From 180 students recruited for the study, 165students responded to the questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of 40 item Likert-scale questions asking students difficulties in comprehending and  utilizing elements of pronunciaton, grammar, vocabular, functions, discourse and strategic in learning English. The results show that students encountered difficulties in pronunciations, vocabulary, function and strategic elements of English learning. Students did not encounter difficulties in discourse elements. This might be due to the fact that students got intensive trainings on discourse during their high school learning experiences. One of the implications of the study is a design of English course for higher education institutions in Bandar Lampung based the mapping of the problems encountered. Key words: mapping, Language Learning Problems, Higher Education institutions

Abstract

Face recognition has gained popularity in pattern recognition for the future applications in the fields of commercial and law enforcement. It has significant attention due to availability of feasible technologies, including in mobile solutions. Research in automatic face recognition has been conducted since the 1960s, but the problem is still largely unsolved. Last decade has provided significant progress in this area owing to advances in face modelling and analysis techniques. Although systems have been developed for face detection and tracking, reliable face recognition still offers a great challenge to computer vision and pattern recognition researchers. There are several reasons for recent increased interest in face recognition, including rising public concern for security, the need for identity verification in the digital world, face analysis and modelling techniques in multimedia data management and computer entertainment. In this chapter, we have discussed face recognition processing, including major components such as face detection, tracking, alignment and feature extraction, and it points out the technical challenges of building a face recognition system. We focus on the importance of the most successful solutions available so far. The final part of the chapter describes chosen face recognition methods and applications and their potential use in areas not related to face recognition. Keywords: Face Recognition, Biometric Identification, Methods, Applications, Image Processing

Abstract

We propose a new simple method of DC feature extraction thatenables to accelerate the speed and decrease storage needed in image retrieving process by aim of partial Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) compressed images algorithm. Our feature extraction is carried out directly from JPEG compressed images. We extract one feature of DCT coefficients which is DC feature only. By applying DC feature as indexing key, this method only need 1/64times required to construct indexing keys compared to conventional Euclidean distance method whilststill maintain high precision and recall.  We also introduce a DCT coding category approach to justify this proposed method.  After all, even though this method is not revolutionary and perfect yet in improving speed for image indexing, itvery significantly reducedthe cost of image retrieval in real applications, primarily for huge image databases.
