Abstract

Ciwalen River flows pass of leather industry in Sukaregang area that is the one of the prominent industry in Garut region. The usage of chemicals in the leather tanning process resulted in toxic liquid waste released to Ciwalen River. Ciwalen River containing contaminants would further contaminate the groundwater system along the Ciwalen River. The study of groundwater flow particularly hydrodynamic relation river and groundwater surrounding is required. Field and secondary data were utilized in this study. Groundwater flow and hydrodynamic relation river and groundwater analyses were carried out using Visual Modflow v3.1. software. The study results that hydrodynamic relationship between Ciwalen River and the groundwater system can be divided into 6 segments. Segment 1, 4, and 6 belong to effluent type, while segment 2 is of influent type. Segment 3 and 5 located right of the river are effluent and those located in the left of the river are of influent type. River channel length of segment 1 are 0.95 km, length of segment 2 are 0.62 km, length of segment 3 are 0.88 km, length of segment 4 are 0.21 km, length of segment 5 are 0.63 km and length of segment 6 are 1.18 km. Influent type indicate causes a groundwater pollution because river that’s containing contaminants would further contaminate the roundwater system particularly at urban wells in surrounding segment.

Abstract

In this paper, it is analyzed drag force of a quark in a rotating and strongly coupled Quark Gluon Plasma(QGP) by considering the motion of a string under background metric of rotating Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli(BTZ) black hole. The non-trivial solution of string motion under rotating BTZ black hole depends on a constantmomentum conjugate which is fixed physically in all space. The drag force is characterized by the black hole’sparameters (curvature, mass and angular momentum) and angular velocity of the string. Moreover, it is also foundan external force term proportional to the angular momentum of the black hole in non-relativistic limit.

Abstract

The main challenges to overcome in biodiesel production from microalgae are lower oil yield, as compared to those derived from plant and animal biomass, and expensive culture media. This work was aimed to compare the effectivity of three extraction methods differed in solvent used, e.g. n-hexane (N-hex), ethanol (Eth), and mixture of chloroform-methanol-water (CMW), to extract crude lipid and biodiesel from dry biomass of Chlamydomonas sp. ICBB 9113. This microalgae was cultivated in a cheap culture media using N and P soil fertilizers as nutrient sources. The results showed that, by using N-hex, Eth, and CMW methods, it could be extracted, respectively, 0.06%, 4.51%, and 20.45% crude lipid, and 384.2, 1333.8, and 2430.6 mg/100g biodiesel. The fatty acid profile of the studied microalgae biomass was: C8:0 (0.11%), C10:0 (0.09%), C14:0 (7.70%), 16:0 (1.39%), C18:0 (0.85%), C14:1 (5.12%), C16:1 (7.09%), C18:1 (8.28%), C18:2 (12.80%), and C18:3 (42.57%). Fatty acid characterization showed that Chlamydomonas sp. ICBB 9113 was dominated by C18: 3 and C16:0. Therefore, these microlagae were suitable to be used as raw material for biodiesel production to substitute the conventional fuel.

Abstract

Arafura and Timor Sea is territorial waters which surround three countries of Indonesia, Australia, and Timor Leste. Both seas have very strategic and transboundary conditions, such as for fisheries, sea-climate variability, marine pollutions and others. Therefore, we need studies to understand the characteristics of currents circulation. The most important physical parameters of these features is the dynamics of the upwelling and down welling. Hydrodynamics of 3-D modelling for currents circulation, using tides and wind as initial conditions, is employed to simulating scenarios of the Northwest monsoon, Southeast monsoon, and transition of both monsoons. The results are qualitatively verified. The dynamics of horizontally surface currents follows the monsoon system, and the vertical circulation is significantly exists. Upwelling in coastal waters south of the island of Timor, and between the Islands and the Tanimbar Aru islands appear in all the monsoon due to the influence of the bathymetry. The current circulation is potentially indirect contribution to the fisheries activities in the seas.

Abstract

This paper described the relation ofp ublic work infrastructures after disaster and the increasing ofp eople welfare in Nangro Aceh Darussalam (NAD) Province. This matter was based on the fact that there was not seen in advance, how much disaster influenced the condition ofp eople's economy. This condition was the main targets as receivers of the benefit. The increasing of people welfare was measured from education, income, job, and possession. This research used the combination of two methods, namely the qualitative and the quantitative methods (Mix Method). The qualitative method was used to answer social factor questions affecting the optimization of the public work infrastructures on the disaster area. The quantitative method was for observing and measuring people's economic condition level that changed then compared with disaster happened before. The research used six sample villages in the NAD Province. The observation found that the public work infrastructures were implemented in rehabilitation and reconstruction stage and it affected on the increasing of people's economy. There were some social problems in the process of planning and implementing stage. This condition caused less optimal public work infrastructures. Therefore, the study suggests that it needs some steps to anticipate against social problems, subsequently public work infrastructures could be well implemented and could increase people welfare.

Abstract

This research aimed to study the possibility of cacao sweatings treatment to produce intermediate compound i.e. acetic acid in acidogenesis processes. It were carried on an anaerobic Circulating Bed Reactor which is made from flexyglass 6 L capacities and operated in batch system. The operation of two circulating bed reactor conducted at room temperature for 20 days and nitrogen gas flushing is performed at one of the reactor for 10 minutes in the beginning of operation. Gas composition analysis indicates the persistence of O2 in reactor A, hence the acetic acid formation follows the aerobic pathway and occurs more rapidly. Concentration of O2 in reactor B is relatively low compared to reactor A. So that is concluded that acetic acid formation reach the anaerobic pathway and run slowly. This research indicates that the presence of O2 in the reactor affect the pathway of acetic acid formation.
