Abstract

The geographical proximity between Indonesia and Australia leads to harmonious relations between these two countries, especially in security. The development of information technology is one of the areas becoming the focus of Indonesia and Australia in maintaining regional security. Security cooperation has been established between Indonesia and Australia. This development can have an impact on a dispute between Indonesia and Australia, particularly in the 2013 cyberwar conflict. An Australian cyber-attack on Indonesia by tapping President Yudhoyono’s communication network caused the cyberwar incident. However, the post-cyberwar between Indonesia and Australia did not cause tension in the relations between the two countries. Indonesia approved the MOU of Cybersecurity Cooperation with Australia in 2018. This study aims to analyze the causes of Indonesia and Australia’s choice to continue their cybersecurity cooperation after the Indonesia-Australia cyberwar in 2013. This research utilized the theory of complex interdependence and domestic politics and qualitative analysis methods. The results revealed that Australia’s soft power resources, Australia’s political credibility, the advantages of Indonesia and Australia as democratic countries, and the political survival of individual leaders caused both countries to continue their cybersecurity cooperation after the Indonesia-Australia cyberwar in 2013.

Abstract

The literature review about post-Saddam political system deals largely with the role of the United States and the coalition forces in establishingand stabilizing the country’s political system and its proper functioning. However, works referring to the institutions, processes and procedures of the political system are very few. There are occasional references toIraqi politics, but there are no many in-depth studies providing an analysis of the nature of the political system and its expected outcomes. The few works in the area do not differentiate between the three dominant ethnic groups and their concerns vis-à-vis the country’s internal organization and its future. Placing them in the same box as is often done is tantamountto equalizing centrifugal and centripetal forces, ignoring current history and obstructions created by colonial power.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the gender aspects in Johan Galtung thought about Violence. Johan Galtung conception of violence, namely, direct violence, structural violence, and cultural violence was comprehensive enough to observe violence at all levels, including gender-based violence. The issue of violence appeal to feminists because of violence against women is a mechanism of subordination of women. Violence against women has an impact not only for women victims but also women in general, which ultimately in the lives of women always feel threatened by numerous acts of violence in public and private sphere. Using the sociology of knowledge, this article seeks the connection between Johan Galtung’s thought and his life background. The research method is a qualitative method with literature study used secondary data. This article found that there are similarities between Johan Galtung thought with numerous streams of feminism that ever existed. Telling about direct violence, Johan Galtung puts women at enmity with men on one hand. On the other hand, the structure and culture of patriarchy that have existed in society also become violent themselves. In its efforts to realize peace, Johan Galtung wants the equality between the sexes, where there are cooperation and a balance of roles between men and women who all of them lead to the peace process.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that symbolizes plurality. The horizontal conflicts caused by ethnicity, race, and religion show that there is a crisis of national integration and social disharmony within the country. Conflicts in several regions in Indonesia provoked by several things, namely, lack of empathy, tolerance, and trust. However, this is different from what was shown in the border communities in Kalimantan. The result of the research which was conducted in April to June 2015 showed that the people in Indonesia-Malaysia border (especially in districts Jagoi Babang) were able to respect one another in the context of national integration. Living side by side despite their different citizenship is the evidence that they have mutual interaction in many fields such as the economy, education, and health. This condition creates social harmony among those communities. The main reason is that they feel as one family (kinship) under Dayak Bidayuh descent. This sense of belonging is as the result of local wisdom which is still being conducted among them, called ritual Gawai.

Abstract

Environmental issues have recently become objects of study among international scholars. At the most theoretical level, a number of scholars criticize the ability of the state-system to respond to environmental dangers but at the same time the state-centric thinking still dominating most environmental activities marked by the international environmental regime formation. The two main school of thought involved in this line of enquiry are realist perspective (or paradigm) and the ecological thinking. This article analyses these two conceptions. It aims to show that although the ecological thought present themselves as radical departure from state-centric thinking, they actually reaffirm the dominant realist perspective about the centrality of the institution of the state especially when thinking about forms of formulation able to address global environmental problems.

Abstract

The different interest among actors (government, society, and corporations) has become one of the causes of conflict in natural resources managements. In border areas, conflict arises because of abundant land availability and diverse natural resources that have a potency to be utilized for a variety of purposes.Meanwhile, the political ecology approach sees these differences of interest arise from economic, social, and political motives or it can be driven by an environmental control. Political ecology approach can help to illustrate the phenomenon, by linking the environmental condition to the process of the political economy. Political ecology becomes operational when it acts as an environmental policy and spur the government to act collaboratively with privates and communities. In addition, natural resources management must include the right and responsibilities in the future. To assuring the conflict of natural resources management at the border will not escalate, the approach of the security law need to be implemented at the border besides the welfare approach.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the political map of the European Union (EU) in expanding its territory after the fall of the Berlin Wall. EU never granted membership status with special assistance to any country before. However, Bulgaria had received special membership assistance called the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism (CVM). The granting of this membership status was controversial because it was given when Euroscepticism was on its peak. Member countries such as the United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Germany considered that granting different membership status to fulfill the EU’s standards would aggravate the institutional performance. This case employed The Gains Of EU Enlargement to analyze what interests the EU wanted to gain in providing CVM assistance to Bulgaria. This approach explained, the EU wants to accelerate the Europeanization process of Bulgaria to reach the stabilization of European region security both internally and externally. However, external interests dominate the most, in order that EU can control the influence of Russia to Bulgaria. So, Bulgaria’s membership makes Russia unable to use its former ally as a propaganda tool to interfere in European affairs, especially regarding Russia's imported gas policy towards Europe.
