Abstract

Tangerine (Citrus nobilis var. microcarpa) is most widely cultivated Citrus in Indonesia, it’s around 80% of all population of Citrus. Citrus can growth and cultivated in low land or upland (0-1500 m above sea level). Indonesia has extreme climate change (La Nina) in 2009 and 2010. Extreme climate change is one of the factors that affect the growth and productivity of citrus both in quality and quantity. Tangerine require 6-9 months of wet season and 3-6 months of dry season, although need enough water in dry season.  This research aims to study the effect of extreme climate change with high rainfall on phenology, productivity and quality of Tangerine in Banyuwangi, Jember and Lumajang. This Research was conducted at Tangerine center from 2005 until 2011 using observation method, the tangerine that use was from 5 years after planted until 12 years after planted. The Result showed that high precipitation occurred in 2010 (without dry season) affect the phenology cycle from 1-3 times in a year until 4-6 times in a year, but not become a fruit due high flower drop. It’s cause a decrease in Productivity form 20-30 ton/h until 5-10 ton/h and also a decrease in quality (color, flavor and total dissolved solid). The result also showed that PJTKS system (Integrated Management for Healthy Tangerine) can prevent a decrease in Tangerine Productivity (10-12 ton/h). This Research also obtained that dry land and sandy land has potential for cultivation of tangerine that originally grown in paddy field.

Abstract

Study entitled Growth and Drought Resistance Seed Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis) in Multiple Time and Direction Applications Boron (B) and Silicon (Si) through Leaves aims to study the effect of B and Si on physiological processes and growth of oil palm seedlings experiencing drought stress and get a way and timing of B and Si is effective to reduce the effect of drought on the decline of physiological processes and growth of oil palm seedlings, Has been implemented in the hamlet Bendosari Madurejo village, Prambanan subdistrict, Sleman; Laboratory of Plant Sciences Faculty of Agriculture, Plant Anatomy Laboratory of the Faculty of Biology and Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory (LPPT) Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta in March to December of 2012. Research using a complete randomized block design (RAKL) factorial 3 x 3 1 to 3 blocks as replications. The first factor is the way fertilization, the second factor is the time of fertilization and added a comparison (control) without any fertilization treatment. The data analyzed were obtained using Varian Analysis (ANOVA) at the level of 5%, and followed by a test of least significant difference LSD. The results showed that the uptake and increased significantly with the application and the leaves by spraying in the morning, afternoon and evening through the direction of the bottom surface, the top and bottom of leaves. However, absorption of Si is only able to increase if the source of Si fertilizer applied by spraying the leaves through a downward direction on the surface of leaves in the evening. Oil palm seedlings can be improved resistance to drought stress with an indication of the form of increasing scores lignin and suberin in roots network as well as the size of the diameter of the rod when compared with control through the application of fertilizer source of B and Si on the leaves by spraying in the morning, afternoon and evening through direction of the bottom surface, the top and bottom of leaves.

Abstract

Modern agriculture is very closely related to the application of fertilizer to induce plants grow. The application of bio-fertilizers is expected to reduce the negative impact of chemical fertilizers. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of multi-functional Azospirillum N2 fixation, P solubility and IAA production on the growth of Ciherang rice in pot experiment in greenhouse BB Biogen. The experiment treatment were 3 types of inoculation (non-inoculation, inoculation using wildtype Aj Bandung 6.4.1.2 and the mutant isolate of AJM 3.7.1.14 ), and 4 levels of fertilizer application (non-fertilization, a quarter dose, a half dose, and the real dose of fertilization on rice in lowland). The Azospirillum isolates were used wildtype isolate Aj Bandung 6.4.1.2 and mutant isolate AJM 3.7.1.14 that was isolated and mutated using ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) in BB Biogen. Seeds of Ciherang rice were inoculated using Azospirillum at cell density 106 cell/ml in different seedling tray. After 14 days, the seedlings were transferred to planting pots which consist of 3 plants per pot. Parameters observed were plant height, number of tillers, number of panicles per hill, wet and dry weight of panicles per hill, weight of 100 seeds, N and P content of the stover. The results showed that both wild-Azospirillum and mutant inoculum had no effect on the vegetative growth of Ciherang, but showed significant effect on the number of panicle per hill, grain weight per hill and dry weight of seeds per panicle. The use of Azospirillum and N fertilizer combination affected the growth and rice yields, also reduced chemical fertilizer application.
