Abstract

A study was conducted to examine the effect of inoculum association between Rhizobium sp., mycorrhizae and Merapi-indigenous Rhizobacteria on the growth and yield of 3 soybean cultivars, and to determine the best inoculum and cultivars for soybean cultivation on coastal sandy soil. The study was conducted in the Agro-biotechnology and Research Laboratory and experimental station of Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta during the period of September 2015 to June 2016. Experiments were conducted by using coastal sandy soil as planting medium in polybags by employing 4 x 3 factorial experiments, arranged in completely randomised design, and placed under the field condition. The first factor used was inoculation treatment consisted of 4 combination of inoculums: (1) Rhizobium sp. – mycorrhizae, (2) Rhizobium sp. – Merapi-indigenous Rhizobacteria, (3) Rhizobium sp. – mycorrhizae – Merapi-indigenous Rhizobacteria, and (4) without inoculation. The second factor was soybean cultivars consisted of 3 varieties: (1) Grobogan, (2) Detam-1, and (3) Petek. Observation was carried out on nodulation, mycorrhizal effect, Rhizobacterial population dynamics, plant growth and yield. The results showed that Rhizobium sp.–mycorrhizae inoculated on Petek increased root growth, leaf area and yield (5,97 tonnes/ha). Rhizobium sp.–mycorrhizae inoculation only increased diameter of nodules. It was also observed that the best soybean cultivar for coastal sandy soil was Petek.

Abstract

This  research was aimed to study  the influence  of   kinds of cooling and packing  on the storage life of sweetcorn in order to obtain the simple postharvest  technology and easy to practice.  The research was done during the February - March of 2005 in the Research Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty, Muhammadiyah  University of Yogyakarta.  The reducing sugar analysis was done in the  Agriculture Technology Faculty of Gadjah Mada University. The laboratory  experiment  was arranged  ini 2 x 3 factorial  completely  randomized design with three replications.  The cooling first factor  was refrigerated in refrigerator to be compared  to the hydro-cooling.  Meanwhile,  the polypropilene and polyethylene  packaging were tested and compared to the unpackaged one. The flavor; reducing sugar, water content, percentage  of nonconsumable  part of sweetcorn,   fresh  weight  of ears,  and organoleptic properties  were observed. The result showed  that there was no significantly   interaction between cooling and packaging on  the  storage life  and  quality  of  sweet corn. The  cooling treatment was significantly influenced the starch and reducing sugar level  as well as the packaging treatment. Refrigeration   storage could significantly keep   the  level   of reducing  sugar  to remain higher than the hydro-cooling, this treatment  was also   decreased the starch  content, decreased the proportion  of unconsumable  part,  and maintained   the flavor. The  polyethylene    packaging significantly keep the level  of reducing  sugar to remain higher and relatively maintained the flavor   than  the polypropilene packaging or  unpackaged, but  decreased  the portion  of unconsumable  part.

Abstract

Strawberry cultivation in Indonesia is centred at Citrus and Subtropical Fruit Research Institute, which collects different cultivars of Fragaria spp. Information on classification based on phenotypic characters of Fragaria spp. has not been studied as a whole. The purpose of the present study was to identify and determine phylogenic relationships of nine cultivars of strawberries based on the anatomical and morphological characters. The present study identified morphologically nine strawberry cultivars by referring to the IPGRI (1986) and the UPOV (2012) and Hofer et al. (2012). Anatomical preparations of roots, stems and leaves were made by the embedding method. Phylogenetic relationships were determined using MVSP software with UPGMA algorithm through the Gower General Similarity Coefficient method. Subsequently, the principal components were analyzed using the Euclidian Biplots algorithm depicted in a Scatter plot. Results showed that there were 37 anatomical and morphological characters that play a role in the characterization of nine cultivars (25 synthetic characters and 12 diagnostics characters) where the shape of the fruit and type of attachment of the flowers were the main characters distinguishing among the nine cultivars studied. The phylogenetic relationship produced two clusters with 79% similarity index. The closely related cultivars were Festival and Rosa Linda with a similarity index of 94%, and Earlibrite and Aerut with a similarity index of 86%

Abstract

At the recent, guide of Site Specific of Nutrient Management (SSNM) was developed by International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in collaboration with Indonesia Agency for Agriculture Research and Development (IAARD) through online media based on internet website. To establish this recommendation technology, field evaluation of SSNM online application based on NM-Rice website was conducted. The assessment was conducted in Trayu and Dukuh Village of Banyudono Sub District of Boyolali District of Central Java Indonesia on dry season 2013 (May-September 2013). The assessment result showed that SSNM rice yield of about 63,2% of farmers in Trayu Village higher than FFP. Yield gap difference of SSNM online varied about 1-20% higher than FFP, whereas the others are almost similar until lower than FFP yield, by variation about 1-11%. The assessment of fertilizer recommendation in Dukuh Village showed that only about 33,3% of farmers cooperator have SSNM yield higher than FFP. Whereas, the others have SSNM online yield lower than FFP which its involved about 10% of farmers have similar yield between SSNM and FFP. An average of NPK rate of SSNM online in Trayu Village is lower than FFP. SSNM online rate for N fertilizer recommendation in this location are about 133 kg/ha  (93,9% lower than FFP), P2O5 about 38 kg/ha (73,8% lower than FFP), and K2O about 38 kg/ha (14,5% lower than FFP). Whereas in Dukuh Village, N rate of SSNM online recommendation are about 131 kg/ha (109,7% lower than FFP), P2O5 about 31 kg/ha (29,3% higher than FFP) and K2O about 30 kg/ha (63,3% higher than FFP). Generally, fertilizer recommendation based on SSNM online have benefit about 4,43% from existing.
