Abstract

This research aims to evaluate rainfall estimates of satellite products in regions that have high variations of rainfall pattern. The surrounding area of Makassar Strait have chosen because of its distinctive rainfall pattern between the eastern and western parts of the Makassar Strait. For this purpose, spatial distribution of Pearson’s coefficient correlation and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) is used to evaluate accuracy of rainfall in the eastern part of Kalimantan Island and the western part of Sulawesi Island. Moreover, we also used the contingency table to complete the parameter accuracy of the TRMM rainfall estimates. The results show that the performance of TRMM rainfall estimates varies depending on space and time. Overall, the coefficient correlation between TRMM and rain observed from no correlation was -0.06 and 0.78 from strong correlation. The best correlation is on the eastern coast of South West Sulawesi located in line with the Java Sea. While, no variation in the correlation was related to flatland such as Kalimantan Island. On the other hand, in the mountain region, the correlation of TRMM rainfall estimates and observed rainfall tend to decrease. The RMSE distribution in this region depends on the accumulation of daily rainfall. RMSE tends to be high where there are higher fluctuations of fluctuating rainfall in a location. From contingency indicators, we found that the TRMM rainfall estimates were overestimate. Generally, the absence of rainfall during the dry season contributes to improving TRMM rainfall estimates by raising accuracy (ACC) in the contingency table.

Abstract

There are three aims on this research: to determine  about the level of farming land capability and the sub class of farming land capability, to determine the area that posible to developed for farming land, to evaluate about farming land capability for landuse in the sub district of Boyolali Regency. The methods used in this research is observation in the field and laboratory with land unit approach as a standard  of mapping. The data collected from this research is degree of slope, erosion sensibility, erosion level, solum, texture, permeability, drainage, gravel/ pebble, and the flood hazard. The result of this research showed that the research area has II to VI land capability. Land capability II: 750 Ha (25,1%), III: 1308,1 Ha (43,7%), IV: 250 Ha (8,3%), V: 386,5 Ha (13%), VI: 299 Ha (10%). The dominant restriction is the soil moisture that consist of permeability and drainage.

Abstract

The Indonesian population is still growing rapidly and it is induced by fertility and mortacity aspect. In the period of 1961-1971, the overage rate of population growth was 2.1 percent and it became 2.34 percent in the next decade. After that a decrease occured in the period of 1980-1985 (2.1 percent). The decrease in the growth rate lasted to the year of 1990 (1.9 percent). The increase in population in the period of 1971 – 1980 did not mean the failures of the development programmes, like education, health, family planning, the women rate etc but it was due to the decrease in mortality rate was faster than the decrease in fertility rate in the demographic transition era. The development intervention, as stated set forth, has induced the decrease in fertility and mortality in this country, though different intensity. The special province of Yogyakarta and Bali their transition wheieas Nusa Tenggara Barat province is still far from the end of transition. The development impact will life expectancy, death rate, infant mortality rate etc.

Abstract

The wetland has a strategic role in national development. The potential uses of the wetland are varied such as for agriculture, fisheries, industries, and forestry. The intensive use of the wetland for agricultural development in Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua through transmigration projects has been run since in 1973. Unfortunately, not all the projects were well developed, causing the social, economic, and physical environmental problems. These problems resulted in the negative impact for the life of the transmigration people. For that reason, the community empowerment for the unlucky transmigration people by handling the physical and non physical aspects is very important. This paper will describe the importance of providing spatial data and information biophysical wetland as an initial step in empowering people who live in the wetland resource.

Abstract

The study aims to analyse quality of water from overlandflow in the sub-urban area having high of to houses, in the Sinduharjo, Sleman regency. In the sub urban area, the run off originated from paved and impermeable are which is not uniformaly distributed over the area. Run off is iniated from detention storage and overlandflow. Therefore any water pollution of the runoof begin from overlandflow which dissolves constituent within the soil and rock materials. Land cover also determines the dispersion agent of rain water thus the affect the material dissolved in the water. As an input into the catchment system, rainfall affects overlandflow, quantitative, and qualitatively. Overlandflow from open space in the sub-urban area was evaluated based on physical and chemical characteristics. Overlandflow from urban area has chemical parameters such as C, NO2, NO3, and PO4 are higher than those in overlandflow from rural area which is covered by forest and garden. Overlandflow shows BOD and COD in relatively high concentration. Overlandflow is not recomended to be discharge into infiltration wells, unless it is free from parts having high significant contamination.

Abstract

Soil erosion is crucial problem in India where more than 70% of land in degraded. This study is to establish conservation priorities of the sub watersheds across the entire terrain, and suggest suitable conservation measures. Soil conservation practices are not only from erosion data both qualitative SES (Soil Erosion Status) model and quantitative MMF (Morgan, Morgan and Finney) model erosion, but we have to consider LCC (Land Capability Classification) and LULC (Land Use Land Cover). Study demonstrated the use of RS (Remote Sensing) and GIS (Geographic Information System) in soil erosion risk assessment by deriving soil and vegetation parameters in the erosion models. Sub-watersheds were prioritized based on average soil loss and the area falls under various erosion risk classes for conservation planning. The annual rate of soil loss based on MMF model was classified into five soil erosion risk classes for soil conservation measures. From 11 sub watersheds, for the first priority of the watershed is catchment with the small area and the steep slope. Recommendation for steep areas (classes VI, VII, and VIII) land use allocation should be made to maintain forest functions.

Abstract

This study explores an approach of combining remote sensing and a spatial metric to characterize land use change in Hanoi, Vietnam. The work is based on the land cover information of 4 different times derived from Landsat and ASTER data from 1975 to 2003. This study adopted the spatial metrics; the percentage of like adjacency (PLADJ), which calculates the number of like adjacencies involving the focal class, divided by the focal number of cell adjacencies involving the focal class, multiplied by 100 to convert to a percentage. The result successfully showed proportions of the fragmented and the aggregated areas in urbanization for each development time. During the rapid urbanization periods in 1975 – 1984 and 1984 – 1992, a large proportion of the interior non developed and aggregated non developed was converted to developed landscape, whereas fragmented non developed to developed markedly happened in 2001 – 2003. The study provided intuitive description and separation of three urbanization patterns such as infill, expansion, and outlying. Quantitative assessment revealed that the proportion of the expansion and infill steadily increased, whereas the proportion of the outlying decreased in past 30 years. The combined approach using remote sensing and a spatial metric is an effective method to improve understanding of urbanization patterns and to provide visualization of spatial – temporal change due to urbanization.

Abstract

Since people living in a karst area periodically face a crisis due to a lack of fresh water, it is necessary to re-evaluate the ability to use water resources. An appropriate and effective management is required to use available water resource sustainably. We describe a management process of exploring underground river in karst region as water resources. The activities completed included four phases, namely exploration, pre-lifting activities, the water lifting and post-lifting activities. The exploration phase included speleological surveys and data collection for the cave mouth using remote sensing instrument. The pre-lifting was done to prepare various requirements before the lifting process was completed. The water lifting phase consisted of the construction of an underground river dam, the installation of submersible pumps, the construction of reservoirs and the installation of piping to connect to the public hydrant. The post-lifting phase was mainly conducted to organise water distribution evenly. This management model was evidenced to successfully overcome drought in Pucung village by providing fresh water to the local community. Moreover, this model promoted residents’ cost savings by reducing their expenses for buying water from IDR 50,000/m3 to IDR 3,500/m3 (1,300 percent).

Abstract

Ketersediaan data dasar dalam pengembangan kota sangat diperlukan baik dalam rangka perencanaan tata ruang tingkat nasional, propinsi, maupun kabupaten/kotamadia. Hal ini mendukung amanat dalam GBHN 1993 bahwa pembangunan perkotaan ditingkatkan dan diselenggarakan secara berencana dan terpadu dengan memperhatikan rencana umum tata ruang, pertumbuhan penduduk, lingkungan permukiman, lingkungan usaha, dan lingkungan kerja serta kegiatan ekonomi dan kegiatan sosial lainnya agar terwujud pengelolaan perkotaan yang efisien dan tercipta lingkungan yang sehat, rapi, aman, dan nyaman. Permasalahan data dasar dalam perkembangan daerah perkotaan antara lain adalah data dasar dan peta dasar yang belum seluruhnya baku, dan data dasar sumberdaya alam, sumberdaya buatan, dan sumberdaya sosial ekonomi yang sangat dinamis. Pemutakhiran data dasar dan penyusunan basis data digital secara terpadu pada tingkat nasional, propinsi, dan kabupaten/kotamadia perlu terus dikembangkan.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of settlement area in Semarang City using remote sensing imagery. This study used the spatial approach using quantitative descriptive analysis. Interpretation of satellite imagery is an initial activity of the stages of analysis. This activity aims to identify settlement area in the city, the analysis of developments in the residential area of Semarang will be done on the next step. The results showed that the settlement area in Semarang City was increased 9.78% from 1994 to 2005. Distribution of land settlement of the least extent in the sub district Gayamsari and Tugu. The largest residential area located in the sub-district Banyumanik, Tembalang and West Semarang. The regular, distribution is mostly located in Ngesrep Village, sub-district Banyumanik. On the other hand, the irregular distribution is located in Pudak Payung Village, sub-district Banyumanik and in the Rowosari Village, sub-district Tembalang. The composition of regular and irregular pattern were unchanged from 2006 to 2011. The evaluation result of the suitability of land use for settlement on the spatial plan (RTRW) all over the area indicated that more than 80% settlement areas were suitable with the plan.
