Abstract

One of the livestock that has potential to be developed in fulfill the meat requirement is the pig. The excellent traits of the pigs are prolific, high carcas percentage (65-80% of live weight), very efficient in converting feed in to the products. Zeolite is a mine commodity that very potential can be used as mineral source in diets. The minerals has specific characteristic which had high absorption and cation exchange capacity. Zeolite can be used in the diets for increasing feed efficiency. The aim of the research was to study the effect of level zeolite from different sources in the diets on pigs growing-finishing periode. The result showed that the used 6% zeolite level had significant effect on average daily gain and optimal point level used is 4,8%. There were no significant effect of zeolite sources on pig performance. Generally the performance of pigs received feed containing zeolite from L better compared others sources (B,S and N).

Abstract

One of the application of zeolite as a multi-function mineral is the use as catalyst. Investigation to utilize Indonesian natural zeolite as a catalyst will increase the added value and gives a chance to reduce the dependency of imported catalyst. One of the main property, which allow zeolite to be used as a catalyst, is a high silica-alumina ratio, where Si/Al >10. As a preminalry stage to form a catalyst zeolite, research has been carried out to increase the Si/Al ratio of natural mordenite from Cikalong, Tasikmalaya. The method applied is dealumination process, which is followed by calcinations and ion exchange. This process is expected to modify the Na-zeolite from natural mordenit to be a NH4-zeolite which can be transformed to a catalyst zeolite. Dealumination process is carried out using HNO3, with variable concentration and time at temperature of 85°C. Thereafter, zeolite is calcined at 700°C and is followed ion exchange process using NH4NO3. The current stage of research has been succeeded to increase the Si/Al ratio of natural mordenite from Si/Al @ 5 to Si/Al > 10. The process condition applied is dealumination with 8N HNO3 for 24 hours at 85°°C and is followed by calcinations at 700°C for 2 hours. Ion exchange is proceeded with 5% NH4NO3 for 2 hours and is followed by another calcinations at 400°C for 2 hours.

Abstract

Zeolite has been known for improvement of soil fertility through increasing the cation exchange capacity. The objective of this research is to evaluate the application of zeolite for improvement of growth media and growth of oil palm seedling. The research has been conducted in the oil palm seedling research area of Aek Pancur using completely randomized design. The soils used for media are Typic Paleudults, Typic Udipsamments, and Typic Hapludults. The treatment composed of 4 zeolite dossages 0,50, 100, and 150 g/polybag. The results showed that application of zeolite to soils improved the properties of soils, especially cation exchange capacity. Application of zeolite as soil amelioration in the seedling of oil palm did not significantly improve the growth and absorption of nutrients during 11 months. In general, application of zeolite with the dosage of 100 g/polybag improve the growth and absorbtion of nutrients compared to without zeolite application. On the othe hand, application of 150 g zeolite/polybag decrease the growth and absorbtion of nutrients.

Abstract

God has given us rain / water as a mercy gift. Why, we are human being make it become a disaster? Why our efforts to overcome floods, pollutions until now, did not give good results yet? Because, the most precious gift has been given by God, free! And often, we can not appreciate something got free. That's why, we are used, on purpose, to flow the rain water to drainage, small / big river and last, to the sea/ ocean. Natural Zeolites, which are treated physically & chemically (TNZ) can be used succesfully, as media water filter and gas / air (adsorbent) purifier. A certain type of TNZ can neutralize the acid rain and make its void (channel) pores as prisoner for the heavy dangerous metals. If we install the pipe of factory ehimney horizontally (not vertically) and insert the ZA granules in the muffler that way, then we will make our air, fresh and clean. Grey Water which come out from the domestic waste water, will be changed into clear (transparant) clean water, if filtered through TNZ filter bed, while Biolite will change the black water into excellent organic Fertilizer. Biolite is a liquid product, produced from Zeolite powder and probiotic bacterie & additives. The Zeolite powder will adsorb the colour & bad smells and the bacterie will reduce the faeces volume of the Black Water. By using a new (innovative) Domestic Waste Water Treatment Plant (DWWTP) you can easily recycle and reuse the final effluent. Beside this DWWTP will give you excellent organic fertilizer as added value, the investment & operational costs are much reduced & efficient compare to the old (conventional) one. So, you can rely on Zeolite minerals (TNZ, ZA) & its derivat Biolite, not only as soil conditioner, but also to make you sure, that your plants will grow fertile. It is our duty to maintain this Earth, as God create it in a prosperous & equilibrium status.

Abstract

Naturally, zeolite is a cation exchanger but this property is also depending on porosity, tetrahedral density and frame density. Cation exchange effectiveness can be changed by structure, Si/Al ratio and effective pore size. Tetrahedral group, T, in zeolite is negative charged and can be substituted isomorphycally by other group like PO2+. The new structure can be functioned as anion or cation exchanger. The exchange capacity of both ions depends on Si/Al/P ratio from the substitution process. The alumina-silica-phosphate (ASP) compound has been made from zeolite from Cikalong, Tasikmalaya, with ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (ADHP) with substitution rate between 30-40%. This product has been tested to Pantura groundwater, in Bekasi and Karawang areas, which have groundwater type of NaCl, CaCl2, MgSO4 and CaCl2/CaSO4. ASP tests on ground water samples show decreasing content of Ca, Mg, Na and K cations in ground water by 32.94%, 3.35%, 2.52% and 23.60% respectively. Sulphate anion also decreases by 15.39% but chloride anion shows no changes. Dig-up well of CaCl2 type also shows a reduction of Ca, Mg, Na and sulphate contents by 46.26%, 18.37%, 16.39% and 10.84%, respectively. Dig-up well of CaSO4 type shows Ca, K and sulphate contents decrease of 89.71%, 33.31% and 5.26%, respectively. CaSO4 dig-up well can be changed to Mg-mix type after processing by ASP compound. Cation exchange capacity of ASP compound to Ca is higher than to K, Mg and Na (Ca>K>Mg>Na). Due to a high cation exchange capacity to K and Mg, ASP compound may be used to reduce the hard water level.

Abstract

Directly reuse of fly ash waste from electricity power plant as soil conditioner is often not recommended, because of its content on heavy metals elements. This research studied the existence of metal elements, Ni, Pb, Cr and Cd in the zeolitization products of fly ash produced in PLTU Suralaya. Zeolitization process was conducted hydrothermal using NaOH solutions of 3N and 4N at temperature of 90oC and 120oC and heating time of 12 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours. 10 kinds of zeolite products were identified as a mixture of zeolite Na-PI, Na6(Si10Al6O32).12H2O and zeolite Na Hydroxysodalite, Na6(SiAlO4)6.4H2O, which had cation-exchange capacity much higher than the original fly ash. Metals ions content of Ni, Pb, Cr and Cd in the zeolite products, analyzed by AAS, were found much decrease compared to its content in the fly ash. Further study on leaching of metals ions from the zeolite products with water on pH neutral did not show a significant losses of these metals ions.

Abstract

Manure contains micro and macro nutrients which are essential for plant growth. During the decomposition process and after application to the soil, nutrients in manure especially nitrogen is easily volatile to the atmosphere and leaching by water. Zeolite has a high adsorption to ammonium ion, so the application of zeolite together with manure may improve the plant growth. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effect of manure and zeolite addition to the growth and absorption of plant nutrients of Ipomoea reptans. This research was conducted in green house of Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University, from June until October 2004. Cultivation was conducted in two period. Immediately after the plant were harvested in first period, plant media were cultivated for the second period without addition of fertilizers. Addition of 20 ton/ha zeolite to the plant media influence the growth and absorption of nutrient higher than the other zeolite treatments. Nutrient residue of zeolite treatment is higher than the treatment without zeolite which is shown by higher production of Ipomoea reptans in the second planting period. Application of zeolite increase the growth of plant. Application of zeolite together with chicken manure gave higher growth and production compared with cattle manure.

Abstract

Zeolite used in so various area and inclusive of livestock. The using of zeolite is related to zeolite characteristic as molecule absorber and cation exchange capacity. In return for cation, because metallic binding which owning is easy to release and also easily replace by cation of other. Zeolite ability as molecule absorber caused by its structure is hollow where other molecule that selectively can dissociate molecule which size measure is bigger can fill the cavity. Nature zeolite ability causes it a lot of used for the good livestock area as part of feed and as media of plant for livestock feed and also to improve environmental quality of farm. Zeolite use in research of various livestock type show livestock appearance repair improvement and low feed price. Zeolite use to improve environmental quality also show real result through rate reduction irrigate dirt, dirty air and dirt ammonia rate degradation in cage and also lessen aroma coming from ammonia (NH3) and sulphide hydrogen (H2S) as ferment micro organism result in feces.
