The dental health maintenance behavior of the Indonesian people in brushing their children's teeth directly is still deficient. Brushing your teeth correctly and adequately is one factor in avoiding dental and oral diseases such as caries. Therefore, it is necessary to emphasize that dental and oral health information in early childhood is needed. This study aimed to analyze the effect before and after counseling using simulation and peer teaching methods on tooth brushing behavior in SD Muhammadiyah Tanjungsari Pekalongan students. The type of research used is a quasi-experiment (quasi-experimental) with a pre-test and post-test group design. The population in this study amounted to 124 students. The sample consisted of 40 students, with 20 students being given the simulation method and 20 students being given the peer teaching method and taken by purposive sampling technique. The tests were carried out by univariate analysis and bivariate analysis, using the Mann-Whiteny test to determine differences in the effectiveness of the methods used. The statistical test results used the Mann-Withney test with results on knowledge (p=0.954), attitude (p=0.498), action (p=0.040), and index debris (p=0.001). Shows that there are differences in the effectiveness of counseling before and after using the simulation method compared to the peer teaching method; namely, knowledge is more effective using the simulation method with an average simulation of 20.60, attitudes are more effective using the peer teaching method with an average of 21.68, on the action it is more effective using the simulation method with an average of 24.30, and on the debris index it is more effective using the peer teaching method with an average of 26.55.

Dental caries is one of the chronic disease of the oral cavity with a prevalence of 45,3% in indonesia. Fluoride is one of the substance that could help in preventing carries and secondary carries. Fluoride can also be found in restorative materials used in dentistry that could release fluoride ions inside the oral cavity. The aim of this study is to determine the differences of different curing time on giomer’s fluoride release. The method used in this study is experimental laboratory design using 27 giomer samples that are divided into 3 groups based on the duration of irradiation of 20 seconds, 40 seconds, and 60 seconds. Fluoride-release were observed by immersing the polymerized restorative material into artificial saliva and then tested using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 570 nm. One way ANOVA test showed differences in fluoride levels in the 3 treatment groups with p 0.05. There was a significant difference in fluoride levels between polymerized giomer restorative materials with curing time of 20, 40, and 60 seconds.

The use of herbal ingredients for dentistry is preferable to the use of chemicals. Pineapple is one of the fruits that can be used in dentistry. Pineapple hump is often not consumed even though it still contains many bromelains. This study aimed to see the antibacterial effect of adding mint and basil leaf extract into pineapple hump extract. This type of research is a pure experimental study with a control group design and partly water. This study's experimental group or independent variables were pineapple hump extract, mint leaf extract, and basil leaf extract. The control group was Chlorhexidine and water. The variable is Streptococcus mutans. The extract was made by maceration technique, and the examination of the inhibition of bacteria was carried out using an oxoid blank disc. There was a difference in inhibition against Streptococcus mutans between the experimental and control groups p0.05, but there was no difference between the pineapple hump extract with the addition of min leaf extract and the pineapple weevil extract with the addition of basil leaves. Adding mint and basil leaf extract to pineapple hump extract can increase its antibacterial power against Streptococcus mutans.

Children's oral and dental health needs to be maintained from an early age in order to sustain the integrity of their teeth. A new dental health care monitoring named SIMOGI (Dental Health Monitoring System) application is proposed. This application is used by parents and it’s integrated with dental therapist’s account. The application has features of dental health care checklist and dental danger sign. The aim of this study is to analyze changes in parental behavior towards the maintenance of children's oral health with the implementation of SIMOGI. This research is an experimental study with pretest and posttest design with control group design. The total sample used is 20 parents of elementary school in grade 3. A behavioral questionnaire on dental and oral health maintenance on knowledge, attitudes and actions were done to measure the effect changes. The category is grouped into bad, fair and good. This experiment ran for 21 days. The analytical test used is univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The results show that in knowledge, there is no effect on control (p-value 1.000) and intervention group (p-value 0.785). There is effect on intervention group’s attitude (p-value 0.018) and no effect on control group (p-value 0.317). There is effect both in intervention (p-value 0.024) and control group (p-value 0.102). There is an effect of using the SIMOGI application on changes in parents' attitudes and actions in maintaining children's dental health. Knowledge of the parents is already in the good category.

ABSTRACT Background: The function of the organs of the elderly as they get older will decrease (organ degeneration), both due to natural factors and due to disease. An estimated 30% of seniors aged 65 years and older have decreased saliva production. Decreased saliva production causes complaints of dry mouth which is often known as xerostomia. This situation is caused by atrophy of the salivary glands (saliva) which will reduce salivary production and change its composition. The decreased salivary secretion will cause discomfort in the oral cavity, pain, and increased rates of dental caries and oral infections. Facial gymnastics is the act of giving massage to the facial area from top to bottom around the cheeks, mouth, and chin, this activity can stimulate the function of the oral cavity.Research objective: to analyze the effectiveness of facial exercises on the quality of life of elderly people with xerostomia.Research Methods: Quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design, a sample of 30 elderly people with xerostomia. Facial exercise treatment was carried out for 30 days, measurements were carried out using the Xerostomia Related Quality of Life Scale (XeQoLS). Questionnaires were given before and after treatment. Results: The results showed that after doing facial exercises there was an increase in salivary secretion from an average of 0.6 ml/per minute to 1.1 ml/per minute, and the results of the paired t-test p-value = 0.000. The majority of respondents had a low quality of life of 53% and after doing facial exercises the majority of respondents had a high quality of life of 57%, with the results of the paired t-test p-value = 0.000. This can happen because the implementation of facial exercises gets mechanical stimulation. The stimulation given can increase the flow of salivary secretion which directly affects the increase in saliva volume. The normal salivary secretion will cause a sense of comfort in the oral cavity, thereby increasing the quality of life of the elderly.

Introduction: Children with special needs are a high risk group for health problems, so they need help and cooperation with others to get and maintain health, including in maintaining their oral health. The condition of the oral cavity is strongly influenced by age factors (especially very young children), the severity of the disorder/abnormality, and environmental conditions where children are highly dependent on their parents, siblings, or caregivers in caring for their oral cavity. There needs to be a training model for parents and teachers. Methods: This research is analytic observational with a cross sectional approach to analyze the variation in magnitude or contribution between the variables studied based on the research objectives. The subjects studied were parents of children with special needs with a sample size of 110 people at SLB BC Optima and SLB Karya Bhakti Surabaya. Collecting data using a questionnaire, with the variables studied: Perception of the training model, social support, parental interest and dental and oral health maintenance behavior in children with special needs. Data analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Linear Structural Relationship (LISREL). Research results and analysis: The results show that: maintenance of oral health in children with special needs is influenced by training, social support and parental interest. The results of the model goodness test concluded that the final SEM model formed was a fit model, because of the 5 model goodness criteria, where the Chi-square value was 108.28 ( from the table value 138.81), RMSEA (0.054), GFI (0.936) , AGFI (0.905) and CFI (0.911) have met the fit model. Discussion: SECI Knowledge Management-Based Training Model and Social Support for Dental and Oral Health Maintenance Behavior for Children with Special Needs can be used as an alternative in an effort to improve dental and oral health maintenance behavior in children with special needs
