Abstract

Kata kunci: karies gigi; rujukan UKGS; ketidakhadiran siswa; PuskesmasABSTRACTIntroduction: The results of the 2019 School Dental Health Initiatives (UKGS) report at the North Denpasar II Community Health Centre (Puskesmas) were 10% of the total 660 elementary school students referred for treatment. However, elementary school students who need dental treatment do not follow the instruction. This study aimed to determine the reasons for the absence of UKGS referral elementary school students to Puskesmas II Denpasar Utara based on the perceptions of mothers and teachers. Methods: Qualitative research using an exploratory study approach in elementary schools in the working area of North Denpasar II Community Health Centre. A total of 7 informants were selected by purposive sampling method consisting of mothers of School Dental Health Initiatives referral students, teachers in charge and Community Health Centre officers holding School Dental Health Initiatives programs. Data were collected by in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic methods. Result: Mother’s perception of School Dental Health Initiatives activities is considered helpful in preventing tooth decay in children. Oral health has not become a priority so that mothers do not routinely do periodic check-ups. Mothers prefer to come to private practice using insurance because of a long queuing period in the Community Health Centre. The teacher’s perception is that School Dental Health Initiatives activities provide benefits even though there is no particular form in the implementation of School Dental Health Initiatives referrals; health workers only make records by writing down student identities and information about cavities or persistence. Conclusions: Dental and oral diseases have not become a priority for parents compared to other diseases. Parents prefer to come to private practice using insurance because of a long queuing period in the Community Health Centre and difficult accessibility. Teachers consider School Dental Health Initiatives activities beneficial even though there is no special form regarding UKGS referral results in practice. Referral results are notified directly or through online media to parents. Keywords: dental caries; School Dental Health Initiatives; referral; student absence; Community Health Centre

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2. Periodontitis is an infection of the periodontal tissue that causes inflammation with the potential for the spread of intravascular microorganisms throughout the body. According to Riskesdas, periodontitis cases in Indonesia reached 74.1%. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of COVID-19 on the incidence of periodontitis cases and their therapeutic management during the pandemic. Methods: Descriptive qualitative research using primary and secondary data in three primary health care on Kediri Tabanan. Results: The incidence of Periodontitis is in the first rank with the most cases in two Puskesmas. Oral drug therapy and extraction are the treatment options used in the treatment of periodontitis cases during the pandemic. Discussion: The high incidence of periodontitis during the COVID-19 pandemic is caused by patients who are afraid to visit the dentist. Patients coming to the dentist when the condition of the teeth is damaged and experiencing mobility. In addition, the dental polyclinic only serves patients with medical emergencies. Tools in the dental polyclinic are damaged due to never being used during the pandemic. Transmission process that occurs through aerosols produced in the practice of dental services makes the therapy be limited. Drug administration and extraction are options in the management of periodontitis cases. Conclusion: The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a high number of periodontitis cases. Oral medication administration and extraction an option for periodontitis therapy in the dental polyclinic of primary health care.

Abstract

Introduction: Early childhood dental caries (ECDC) is a major public health problem affecting up to 90% of children worldwide and is related to diet and nutrition.  Early childhood undernutrition, including fetal stunting, and stunting, is a global problem.  Undernutrition in neonatal stunting could be the cause associated with ECDC.  This scoping-review aims to understand the linkage mechanism behind neonatal stunting undernutrition to ECDC. This concept is expected to generate further research to help prevent both growth,   stunting undernutrition and ECDC. Review:  This study uses the PRISMA method, with the steps: (1) Question framework (literature study); (2) Search for articles in databases (on PubMed, ProQuest, Google Scholar), and journal data bases with articles published from 2017 to 2024; (3) Selection of relevant research; (4) Data extraction; (5) Synthesis with narrative method. The study obtained 5 articles to be reviewed, proving that pregnant women who experience chronic undernutrition (mainly deficiency of protein, vitamins A, B, C, D, E, minerals Fe, Ca, P and Zn), will contribute to giving birth to undernutrition stunting neonatal, with severe ECDC in 1 article; 1 articles analyzing the strong relationship between chronic neonatal stunting undernutrition with enamel hypoplasia, low quality and rate of saliva, an important cause of ECDC; and 3 article analyzing the neonatal stunting undernutrition is associated with severe ECDC. Conclusion:  Chronic undernutrition in pregnant women and subsequent neonatal stunting significantly contribute to the risk of severe ECDC.

Abstract

Introduction: Oral and dental health problems in Indonesia continue to increase, yet the utilization rate of health services, especially in remote, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions, remains relatively low. Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) play a crucial role in providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services, supported by electronic medical record systems to facilitate the analysis of patient visit patterns and morbidity. This study aims to evaluate the pattern of patient visits to the dental and oral health unit at UPTD Puskesmas Selemadeg Timur I, Megati Village, as a basis for improving the quality and effectiveness of health services. Materials and Methods: This study is descriptive quantitative research conducted at UPTD Puskesmas Selemadeg Timur I in April 2025. Data were collected from the medical records of 1,253 patients from January to December 2024 using a total sampling method. The observed variables included visit classification, payment mechanisms, gender, and 5 dominant cases based on gender. The results were analyzed and presented in tables and charts to illustrate the distribution and trends of dominant cases. Results and Discussion: There were 1,253 visits over one year, with the majority being follow-up patients (73.42%), covered by JKN (91.37%), and female patients (61.77%). The peak of visits occurred in December, influenced by the academic calendar and health promotion activities. The most common diagnosis was pulpitis (K04.0) at 43.66%, disturbances of tooth eruption (K00.6) at 22.27%, gingivitis and periodontal diseases (K05.0) at 22.11%, pulp necrosis (K04.1) at 5.91%, and periapical abscess without sinus (K04.7) at 2.39%. Conclusion: The visits were predominantly follow-up cases, involving JKN participants and female patients, with pulpitis (K04.0) being the most frequent diagnosis. The high utilization of JKN highlights the vital role of community health centers in ensuring equitable access and quality of dental healthcare services in their respective service areas.

Abstract

Dental and oral health is still a significant problem in Indonesia. Riskesdas 2018 data shows that 57.6% of the population has dental and oral problems, while only 2.8% brush their teeth properly. This condition is a serious concern because untreated dental caries can develop into pulp necrosis and subsequently radical gangrene. Both conditions have the potential to cause infections that can interfere with people's quality of life if not treated immediately. This study aims to compare the prevalence of visits to pulp necrosis and radical gangrene based on gender and age at the UPTD Baturiti II Tabanan Health Center during January-March 2025. The research uses a quantitative descriptive method with a purposive sampling technique based on secondary data from the E-Puskesmas system. The results showed that the prevalence of gangrene radicals (7.2%) was higher than that of pulp necrosis (5.9%). Female patient visits were more dominant in both cases, namely 52.7% in pulp necrosis and 56.5% in radical gangrene. The age distribution showed that the age group of 20–44 years dominated in cases of pulp necrosis (42.1%), while gangrene radicals occurred more in the age group of 45–59 years (34.8%). These results indicate a delay in dental care that contributes to the progression of the disease. The high number of these incidents cannot be separated from behavioral factors and the low level of public knowledge in maintaining dental and oral health. Therefore, increasing communication, information, and education efforts at the level of primary health care facilities is essential to encourage public awareness. Early detection and timely treatment are key in preventing serious complications such as pulp necrosis and radical gangrene.
